Reine’X: Please, lead the way. And am I correct in assuming that we’ll be using the net over there?
Zarax : Looks about right to me.
Báisè: That is correct.
Tǎ: Stop being so formal, Báisè
Reine’X: Anything else we should know about the rules?
Báisè: Would you mind, Tǎ?
Tǎ: I’d be delighted.
The K'tsélai began explaining the rules, and Jelanna quickly realized that it was indeed very similar to volleyball and as the explanation went on, her smile grew broader and broader. The rules, however, were a bit modified for her and Reine’X since serving with their noses and returning with their foreheads would probably leave the noses dented permanently, and give them a headache for days.
Reine’X: Right. Shall we?
Jelanna moved with the others to the net and took up her spot, grinning at Reine’X. She was very good at this game and had even won a tournament when she was in secondary school.
Zarax: Ready
As they prepared to play, Maha cheered from sidelines and Jelanna gave her a big grin.
Tani: Let’s go, Starfleet!
Báisè: ::Chuckling:: It appears you brought your own cheerleader.
As the home team, Báisè and Tǎ would get the option to serve first. She hoped they did, so she could watch to see how they did it here.
Tǎ: Service!
After the first volley was in the air, she tracked the ball and waited for it to head in her direction. She stepped into the shot and raised her arms to return, diving to her knees so she could be in place to make the return shot. The ball sailed back into the air and she quickly scrambled to her feet.
Tani: Nice dig!
Reine’X: Ugh…
Reine’X leaped forward toward the ball that was coming her way.
Zarax: Get it, Reine’X! Use that height advantage!
As Reine’X dove for the ball, Báisè jumped to block what would have been an impressive spike, but missed. Instead, Tǎ managed to barely get underneath it and send it back high one more time.
Báisè: Nice save!
Tǎ: ::spitting sand out:: Knock it back!
Reine’X: Why do y'all like eating sand ..? :: she said playfully, looking at Maha. ::
Zarax: I’m sure it’s good for them, Reine’X. You shouldn’t tease.
But her own teasing smile said a whole different story.
Tani: Response
This time, it was Báisè’s turn to serve, and the ball once more flew high into the air. Jelanna was out of place for this one, but if Reine’X could get to it, she could spike it down before it crossed the net. As Reine’X ran toward the net, she exclaimed loudly.
Reine’X: I got it!
She tried to close the gap, but the ball grazed her fingertips and rolled off, landing in the sand inches short of crossing the net.
Zarax: Dangit!
Tani: Come on, Starfleet! You got this!
Jelanna smiled appreciatively at Maha and returned to her spot.
Báisè: ::chuckling:: No love for us?
Tǎ: She’s rooting for her friends. I would too. Now pay attention!
Reine’X: :: laughing teasingly :: Also, we are going to prove that we are the better team.
Zarax: Not so hasty, my friend. This is their game, and we’re the visitors. Home court advantage, and all that.
But she smiled at them again, her competitive nature coming out even more. It was almost the same feeling she got when she flew a fighter into combat. She was the better pilot and she was going to prove it to them.
It was their turn to serve, and Jelanna stepped to the net to let her partner serve first. The ball flew nicely across the net, but was swiftly and skillfully returned, and Jelanna timed her jump to try and spike the ball as it was crossing the net.
Reine’X: You got it, Zarax! You can do it!
She rose off the sand, her right hand leading as it swiped at the ball, driving it back down toward the ground, her left hand coming up to help complete the spike. She also took care not to touch the net, which in volleyball would have resulted in a foul and a point for the other team. The ball crashed to the sand and Jelanna landed gracefully on her feet, a cheshire grin now on her face.
Zarax: Yes!
However, her celebration was short-lived as it was quickly pointed out by one of the onlookers - and they had gathered a crowd - that the ball hadn’t actually made it across the net, but landed on their side instead. A quick glance around showed others confirming the fact.

Reine’X: Uff, that was close! Next set?
Zarax: Yes, very good set. You are both great at this game.

Reine’X: Response
Jelanna turned to Maha, still smiling as she was having the time of her life. Well…maybe second best, but the other option wasn’t exactly an option at the moment.
Zarax: Maha, you want to sub in? I’ll take a turn on the bench, if you want.
