Reine’X: Right, they don’t have exactly what we’re looking for. I’ll just send a message to the ship and ask them to replicate three powerboards for us right away. While we wait for them, let’s find the beach, and the perfect spot to start the race..::beat:: Any questions?

Zarax: Only one. Ready to lose?

Tani: I have a few forming, but I’ll ask them once I figure out what to ask.

Reine’X: We should start right over there

Reine’X pointed to a patch of shallow sand that extended slightly farther into the water than the rest of the shoreline.

Zarax : That does look like a good place to do the race. Any rules we should know?

Tani: That it does.

Reine’X: Normally, in a powerboard race you have a start and a finish, and you have to hit the color buoys...well, checkpoints along the way. For now, we can just say that whoever is the fastest to complete a lap from this point, around that little island :: she pointed at a small patch of land in the water approximately 1 km from the shoreline :: and back to the start point, wins. :: she paused for a moment, looked towards the horizon, then added :: Try not to fall off the powerboard!.

Zarax: Sounds simple enough.

Tani: Yeah, it does.

Reine’X: One more thing: just remember not to go over the land, as the powerboard will stop immediately. It only works above water.

Tani: Well, shall we head over to the beach and get a feel for the water?

Reine’X: Try to keep up. Are you ready to eat my dust? :: she smirked. ::

Jelanna smirked back, a quip bursting from her lips a fraction of a second later.

Zarax : Only if you’re planning to go over land, since there’s no dust on the water. But from what I hear, that would be bad news for you. So … :: she grinned wickedly again :: yeah, I’ll gladly eat your dust.

She laughed lightly and studying the path. She was an adrenaline junkie, but this was going to be far different from flying a fighter in space.

Tani: I do have one question, Reine’X, and that’s, how do you even use a powerboard? I’ve never used one. There wasn’t much of a chance in New York City to use one, and Austin is rather far from the beach.

Reine'X: A powerboard is basically an anti-gravity surfboard. The repulsor jets keep it hovering just above the water and push you forward fast enough to skim the surface. So basically a surfboard, but without the need for waves. Lean slightly forward, and you’ll go faster. Lean to the side, and you’ll turn.... ::beat:: You’ll get the hang of it very soon.

Zarax : Response

Tani: I see. Well, I guess the best way to learn is by doing. I’m ready, I guess.

Jelanna nodded in agreement, collecting her board and following Reine’X to the water. She removed the black waist wrap and set it with the rest of her belongings on the beach then activated the board and took a testing step onto it, trying to gain her balance. It wasn’t easy, taking a couple of tries, but she eventually got the hang of it and was soon ready to go.

((OOC: “Now, where’s the W, A, D and space keys? And why do I need a rodent, again?” - you have to watch the video to get it 😀))

Reine'X: Let's do a test run, girls. Just to the island and back. Take it easy, and slow the first time.

Reine’X didn’t even wait, but just took off, quickly gaining speed.

Zarax: Nice and easy, my green arse.

She guided the board forward for a moment until she was more confident, then kicked the board into high gear, letting her natural balance and grace compensate to keep her on the board.

Tani : Response

Reine’X had gained quite the lead, but since this was a test run, it didn’t matter. Jelanna was a quick study and was soon zipping along. She couldn’t catch the taller Orion, but she knew when the real race came along, she’d give the woman a real challenge.

Tani : Response

She completed the circuit and made it back to shore, a bit of adrenaline surging through her. The board was faster than she expected, but not unmanageable.

Reine'X: Ready to do the race? Fastest one wins.

It was clear from her tone that Reine’X was eager, and truthfully, so was she. She spun her board around and lined up next to her, waiting for the signal. She also spotted what Reine’X was looking at and smiled.

oO Boys. And girls. But boys. Okay, concentrate. Win the race first and don’t humiliate yourself. Oo

She spoke suggestively to her companions.

Zarax: Maybe one of them will signal the start?

Tani : Response

Reine’X: Response

One of the guys came over and Jelanna looked at him appreciatively, but decided to save that for later.

Zarax: Ready.

Tani / Reine’X: Responses

The guy gave the signal and they were off. Jelanna pulled out quickly, but it was clear her competitors were very good as well, especially Reine’X who she’d known was going to be. After all, she was the relative expert in this race.

Zarax: Watch out, Reine’X. You don’t want us eating your dust, remember?

She laughed again, trying to pull around the other Orion, but her stunt backfired. As she made her move, a large wave reared up and she was forced to back off and evade the wave causing her to lose both time and position.
