(( Main Sickbay Complex, Deck 5, USS Valkyrie-A ))

Korin was called to meet the Chief and a civilian Doctor, whatever that meant. He had shown up early, certain he would get lost, which he did, but somehow still managed to beat most of the others there.

oOHaha-Perfect!Oo

Korin used the time to explore the new Sickbay. He looked over the cabinets and the neatly ordered hyposprays, knowing that would change once they left spacedock. He noticed there were two Sickbay areas and wondered why, but it was still cool to have so much room. He wasn’t entirely sure how many people were on the ship, but he was certain the extra space would be needed in a pinch.

Korin crouched down to examine a new biobed. Shiny and new, he had never seen one like it before. He flopped onto the floor to look underneath, checking if it was any different from the ones he had worked on before, when he heard the swoosh of a door. Thump! His head met the top of the biobed, and he hissed in pain, trying to hide it as he quickly stood up. Oh—everyone else was here now.

He slinked over, trying to play off the fact that he hadn’t just bonked his head and had been there the whole time, but his height worked against him. Looking at the new group of people, his first thought was “small…,” but then… fur. Felidaris! (An Angosian Cat-like creature)

oO Oh my goodness gracious Oo

All audio and visual processing went out the window as the cute aggression set in. Small, fuzzy friend! He reached a hand out, almost to pet it, but had to physically hold his arm back and snap himself out of “it’s a felidaris!” He did a little trot in place and spun 180 degrees to pull his focus back to the group.

There was a small, blue‑clad catlike race. He quickly pulled up his PADD to check before he made a fool of himself. Caitian! Oh, he knew what those were, he had learned about them in school. His eyes then moved to the grey‑skinned woman not wearing a uniform. That had to be the civilian doctor, he guessed. PADD lookup: Cardassian. He didn’t know much about that species, but he was excited to learn. Finally, his gaze fell on his new boss, the smallest of them all.

He admitted he wondered if he could pick all three of them up without much trouble. Their combined weight was probably no more than 150 kg or so… well, maybe he shouldn’t overthink that. Women tended to hate the topic of weight.

Noticing the Caitian’s ears twitch, he stared, wondering what they were thinking—then realized he’d been staring a bit too much. He turned to look at a random ceiling light. Hello, burned corneas. Then the greetings began—thank goodness for a social save.

Deyor: It’s a pleasure to finally meet you all. My name is Soria Deyor, I will be the doctor from the Cardassian exchange program working with you all.

Edrei: Hi, it's very nice to meet you! I'm Leenaya Edrei, Chief Medical Officer, but please call me Lee.

S'Rorr: Excellent to meet you, I've read about some of your work! Stunning stuff. I'm Lieutenant S'Rorr, that's a bit much to pronounce so some find it easier to call me Rory.

Korin copied each of their greetings. He offered his hand, no one else seemed to be doing it, so he mimicked their nods and then S’Rorr’s bow. He pulled up his PADD to make a few notes.

Dasal: Sor-iiia Deyor… Leen-aya…Ed-rei. Prefers Lee… S-Rorr? Easier as Rory. ::Proud of his notes but then saw them all looking at him. Oh shoot he sounded that all outloud.:: Um Dasal! Korin Dasal, new Ensign fresh out of med school and still hyped up on final exams. It’s a pleasure to be here!

Deyor: I don’t know how exactly I’ll fit in when it comes to military ranks around here, but I know you’ll be my boss.

Edrei: Right. ::waving dismissively:: But I don't really care about ranks in Sickbay anyway, so don't worry about that.

Deyor: Who knows, maybe we'll be her servants.

Korin snorted a bit at the word “servant,” his mind, of course, going straight to the gutter.

Dasal: Please?

He quickly regretted everything, pressing his hand over his mouth as he found that same ceiling light very, very interesting again. Maybe it wasn’t too late to switch to security or something. He hoped—no, prayed—that none of them had heard him, but it seemed they were moving on, so maybe he was safe.

Edrei: You're in for a wild ride, and S'Rorr is my partner in crime in scaring off the new docs.

S'Rorr: ::Jovial, exaggerated tone:: Ah, yes, we like to be fanned with palm fronds and expect frequent hot drink refills. We're very demanding about our dry cleaning and we expect nothing but peak excellence.

Dasal: ::chortled:: Hey, I heard my dry cleaning skills were top notch. My mom said floor cleaning was the best cleaning!

Deyor: Response

S'Rorr: That's right~. If you last more than a month, you'll be ahead of the curve. Most doctors just can't handle my demanding grooming schedule.

Korin laughed some more and gave a dramatic sigh. Well, he was sure he wouldn’t last that long.

Edrei: Oooh you're right, and the last one didn't stay too long either.

S'Rorr: ::nodding austerely:: Nine days.

Dasal: Sounds tragic… I heard something about an airlock. Shame really.

Deyor: Response

Edrei: ::chuckling:: Just to say, welcome to you both, we're happy to have you here ::beat:: and we're obviously joking.

S'Rorr: ::smiling:: We keep things pretty light when we can. Emergencies are infrequent, but we prepare for them, you'll mostly see stubbed toes and common colds, lots of extra time most days to spend on research. I think you'll both really like it here.

Research! He wasn’t as adorable as Rorry with animal ears, but they did perk up at that wording. That was really exciting, something he had been looking forward to: the freedom to be on a ship!

Dasal: Ha, ya good guess. I’m really looking forward to working here. You know my last ship, I didn’t last long at all. They kicked me out of the medbay before I even met the Chief doctor ::He winked at Lee playfully::

Deyor: Response

The caitian doctor extended an arm invitingly through the doors into the Primary Sickbay on Deck 5.

S'Rorr: These friendly auto-doors have been diligently staying open this whole time for us. Let's go on through and get a look around. I haven't been here at all yet. Have you, Lee?

Edrei: Response

Korin hops though after Rorry.

Dasal: We were just testing their functionality for when an emergency happens and they got to stay open during that time.

Deyor: Response

The Main Sickbay Complex was tiny compared to a ground-based hospital but absolutely sprawling compared to many ship-based sickbays. They entered in onto a reception area where patients could be assessed quickly and sent to the appropriate place or wait in comfort on a padded bench for a bed to free up or a doctor to arrive. A nurse crewman would run a workstation there.

S'Rorr: Good morning, crewman!

Crewman: Response

S'Rorr: Just taking a little tour of the new work spaces.

Korin gave a friendly salut as a hello to the others around.

Edrei/Deyor: Response

S'Rorr: Let's take a look at proper medical areas first, then we'll swing around to the labs.

The colors of the Sickbay were soothing. Cream and brown, gold and a soothing blue. It's carpet was soft on the foot. To the left of that reception area would be the six medical beds, the surgical suite, the biohazard isolation room, and the medical transporters. The other direction would house all of the nonemergency facilities: the medical laboratories, the CMO's office, a the counselling suite quite near the entrance, and an access hatch to the unit that ran the Mark IV EMH.

Korin looked over every bed as if making sure everything worked. He fake pushed buttons a few times as if to test them making small beeping and booping noises to enhance his childish experience.

Dasal: Do we need these many? I mean I guess the better question is how big is the crew? I like how new and organized everything is because I know for a fact once you start working everything gets misplaced.

Edrei/Deyor: Response

S'Rorr: I like how spacious it is. You could easily set up extra beds ::gesturing:: along this space in an emergency, if we needed to expand.

Dasal: Oh ya, emergencies… ::Voice a bit more sullen as you can always hope that never happens.::

Edrei/Deyor: Response

The six beds were joined by a single advanced biobed recessed in its own circular room. That bed had excess lighting, extra monitors, and extra space all around it. It had its own workstation where a crewman engineer then stood in Ops yellow, testing the functions and tinkering with energy inputs.

S'Rorr: The amount of power coming through here makes my whiskers tingle a little. Like being near the warp core or a conduit.

Korin leaned in a bit too close to Rorry, trying to study their whiskers. Were they really tingling? It was hard to tell with the way they were breathing. Their eyes met Rorry’s, and he quickly stood back up.

Dasal: Just checking to make sure! ::Awkward laugh::

Edrei/Deyor: Response

Trying to save face and prove he wasn’t a child but a real doctor, he turned to the two women, clearing his throat.

Dasal: So what is the um- protocol for lab work? I know at the academy I had to sign up for times.

Edrei/Deyor/S’Rorr: Response

Dasal: So we should-totally go see the lab now!

Somewhat without waiting for an answer, they started moving toward the lab doors, signaling all the small doctors to follow—like little chicks.

The lab was a showcase of cutting-edge Starfleet design—sleek, efficient, and quietly impressive. Curved bulkheads housed integrated consoles with soft holographic displays, while adjustable lighting kept the space comfortable during long research hours.

At the center stood a modular analysis table capable of reconfiguring for everything from biological studies to three-dimensional simulations. Transparent containment units lined one wall, protected by adaptive force fields for safely isolating unknown or volatile samples. The air was carefully filtered and temperature-regulated, and small diagnostic drones rested in recessed alcoves, ready to deploy at a command.

Though highly advanced, the lab didn’t feel cold. Subtle Starfleet insignia and a wide viewport looking out into the stars reminded anyone inside that this was a place built for discovery, curiosity, and exploration.

Dasal: Can-can I set my bunk up in here? I’ll be good!

Edrei/Deyor/S’Rorr: Response

He sighed dramatically and went over to one of the tables to examine it, taking out his PADD once again to jot down some personal notes and ideas.

Dasal: There is enough room here for all of us to be doing something. This is epic!

Edrei/Deyor/S’Rorr: Response
