It was done. Serala had finally broken the news to her crew. Inside, she felt like a piece of her had died. The Chin’toka was her ship. It was like it had been designed with her in mind. She’d rightfully claimed it during Frontier Day and had been rewarded with the command. And now it was being stripped from her. A part of her was also relieved. She’d already had to send Jorin and the kids off because her mother was demanding he resume his duties as the Ambassador for the Republic to the Expanse. As much as she didn’t like being apart from them, she knew it would be safer there than on the ship. But now, she’d be able to rejoin them.
Seleya: Captain, your speech was very well done.
She’d been so engrossed with her thoughts as she sipped on a cup of tea and thinking about how she’d like to rejoin her family that she’d failed to notice the Kazleti approach her.
oO I am slipping. There was a time that wouldn’t have happened. Oo
Serala: Seleya. Thank you, I worked hard on it. I am really going to miss all of you.
Seleya: Well I wanted to come over to let you know that it was an honor to serve under you, and to thank you for having me.
Serala: The honor and privilege has been mine, Seleya. Without officers like you, I can’t do what I do. If I look good, it’s because my officers are better. It is I who should be thanking you.
oO Wow, I really have changed from that brash young Ensign I used to be. Or the Lieutenant Commander who punched a senior officer in the nose and broke it. Although, he deserved it. Oo
Seleya: I also wanted to offer, if you were interested in continuing lessons. I could send you translated texts on Rti’vyl ((Kazleti martial arts)). I know we only went over the basics, but with your experience with martial arts, I am sure you could pick it up quite easily.
Serala smiled and nodded. They’d been training together for a few weeks now, and Serala was finding the lessons enjoyable and refreshing. And Seleya was a good practice partner.
Serala: I would like that, Seleya. We may even be able to arrange virtual lessons. Pre-recorded for when you go to deep space, or live when you’re close enough that communications will permit it.
Seleya: Response
Serala: So, how did you find Intel school? Red looks good on you, by the way.
Seleya: Response
She nodded and patted the other woman on the shoulder.
Serala: I think you will do well. And the Valkyrie has a whole section dedicated to Intel, so it’s a perfect assignment for you. I hope you enjoy it.
