(( Main Sickbay, Deck 5, USS Valkyrie-A ))
Doucet: Oh, we were going to wake up the rest of them, Commander. Would that be an issue here?
Sylvie would defer to the diplomat here. It hadn’t occurred to her until just now that waking up another six people might complicate talking to Charn, and now that it had, it was probably best to clear that with Sherlock directly before preceding.
Sherlock: ::not taking her gaze off of Charn:: No, Doctor. I don't believe there's any issue with that. Wake them, please.
Reine’X: Not all of them are Caraadians. One of the patients is, according to the Starfleet database, a Cullum.
Strathmore: Am I belaying an order or delaying an order?
Charn: So what's the in it for me, huh? You gonna whisk me away into your shiny Federation? You're going to save the poor, backwards, miserable man? "Surely, he must yearn for a life in the utopic Federation. We'll house him, feed him, educate him. We can make him into something!"
Sherlock: We're not going to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing. That's not what we do at all.
Strathmore: I can assure you, you’re not being kidnapped.
Reine’X::turning her full attention to Charn, speaking politely, and in her own way, softly:: I understand why you are reluctant to talk to us. You probably have not had much contact with the Federation before, so you don’t know that they… I mean, that WE really are good guys. And only trying to help.
Sylvie sighed. Everyone was getting themselves involved with convincing Charn and she really wanted to try to get Strathmore and Reine’X focused on their actual jobs, which was … Well, actually, neither of them were doctors or even trained medics. Maybe that was for the best.
Doucet: Ensign Strathmore, we’re going to wake up the others. The Cullum will be a bit more difficult than the others due to his physiology. Can you do me the favor of looking it up and see what’s recommended for them?
Charn: No, I won't be your little backwards pet. Held aloft so you can feel good about yourselves, a gilded cage. Listen, my life is garbage here. But it's my life.
Strathmore: I can assure you I am in no cage, not even a gilded one.
Doucet: The gilded cage is nice, though. Have you tried it? Silk sheets.
Reine’X: Nor am I, :: she said, more to Strathmore than to their guest :: I mean, I’m here, am I not? A non-Federation citizen. I’m proof that they accept the “outsiders.” If I were a prisoner in the Federation, would I be willingly serving on their ships, wearing their uniforms? ::She was now fully focused on Charn, realizing he most likely didn’t know that the Orions were not part of the Federation of Planets. :: Me and you have more in common than you realize, Mr. Charn.
Sherlock: Mister Charn, we just want to talk, that's all. We're not here to change your way of life. But we can help, if that's what you want.
Reine’X: So you do not need to be scared..
Sylvie sighed. Again. She measured the dosage on the hypospray she was holding and walked over to the Caraadian next to Charn.
Doucet: Have you considered that maybe all three of you don’t need to talk to him at once?
She positioned the hypospray and with the press of a button, restored the man to the world of the living once more. After he calmed down from the initial flailing, she patted him on the arm.
Doucet: It’s okay. You’re on a Starfleet vessel. Just take a few moments to get your bearings. I need to wake up the others.
He must have been a meek type from the way he went from looking at her all bewildered to taking in the scene and then nodding.
Charn: Response
Strathmore: You have freedom of choice, moment, and rights, Mister Charn. I won’t bore you with the statues, but I can cite them if you do not believe me.
Sherlock: Even non-Federation citizens are afforded the same rights as citizens on our ships.
Reine’X: You see? ::She pointed at herself, nodding in agreement with what Sherlock had just said.
Doucet: Citizenship is relatively easy to get too, if you want it. Could even make an asylum claim. That applies to you too, love. ::gestures at the Caraadian she just woke up::
Charn: Response
Strathmore: I can tell you from experience, the Federation acts in good faith. I can assure you wholeheartedly.
Reine’X: This means it maintains a lot of good relationships with other entities across the galaxy. Its history is proof. What’s more, the Federation comprises of many different species, living in harmony.... Embracing their differences, not putting them down.
Sylvie chuckled as she calculated the next one’s dosage with a fresh capsule of adrenaline and walked to that bed. This was a Caraadian woman this time, so the dosage would need to be lower. Maybe it was the worsening headache but she wasn’t feeling like restraining from the edge of sarcasm that crept into her voice.
Doucet: “Infinite diversity in infinite combinations”. Hey, there’s even a Romulan on board. How’s that for diversity, huh?
Charn: Response
The Caraadian woman had a rougher awakening, it seemed. Even with the adrenaline, it took her longer to get out of the stupor. Sylvie wondered if time spent asleep under whatever it was that was used to keep them unconscious made it harder for them to wake back up without something more tailored to the job. There were poisons out there that needed a precise antidote to be fully cured. The blood testing hadn’t shown anything like that though.
Sherlock: Like I said, we just want to talk.
Charn: response
Sherlock: I'd just really like to know more about you and how you came to be in contact with some of our officers and how we can help you.
Reine'X: You mentioned earlier that someone might hurt you…? What do you mean? Who are you talking about?::She paused just for a second, then continued:: You also said that we are no different from… them? Who is “them”? I understand that you are scared… of them… but you don’t have to be. You are on a Federation ship now, and you are quite safe here.
Doucet: Charn, I don’t suppose you know if your “buddies” would use any specific kind of drugs on you?
Strathmore: response
Charn: response
The redhead shrugged. It was worth asking.
Doucet: Strathmore, did you find that information on the Cullum like I asked?
Strathmore/ Sherlock: response
She looked over at Reine’X, who was now finally paying attention to the senior doctor in the room, and waved her over. Once the Orion was close, Sylvie handed her one of the other hyposprays after checking the dosage on it.
Doucet: There’s four more to wake up. They may or may not be as quiet as the other two for now. Pick one that’s not the Cullum and give them a shot. There should be two doses available in this hypospray, easy.
Charn/Strathmore/ Sherlock: response
Doucet: Oh good. That confirms what I suspected. Adrenaline might not work for him after all. We’ll need to find something different.
Reine’X: Response
Doucet: Yes, yes, that’s fine. Talk to them after you get them awake. Make sure they know where they’re at.
Reine’X/Charn/Strathmore/ Sherlock: response
Sylvie raised an eyebrow at Charn, then looked at the other patients.
Doucet: If you know any of them, that’d be great. Names, at least? Favorite drugs of choice?
Reine’X/Charn/Strathmore/ Sherlock: response
(( OOC: The other patients are generic NPCs if any of you want to give them a voice. ))
