((USS Valkyrie-A, Deck 12, Main Engineering, Chief’s Office))

It had been another long night for the ship’s Acting Chief Engineer. Valkyrie was proving to be a much different ship to Chin’toka. To stay on top of it she was pulling all night sessions with the mid-watch making sure everyone including herself were getting up to speed on their new vessel.

The biggest issue was the ship’s quantum slipstream drive. She understood the theories behind it but had no specific training in it. It had been a mad push to get several of the old Chin’toka hands up to speed and certified. That was good enough to get the ship underway but would not do if there was any trouble and their missions always found trouble.

T’Ashaya: Greetings, Lieutenant. Ensign T’Ashaya reporting for duty.

Xiron stood up from her desk and nodded with her antennae to greet the statuesque Vulcan.

Xiron: Ensign T’Ashaya. It is good to finally meet you. I trust you are finding your way around engineering.

T’Ashaya: I look forward to being a part of the team, Lieutenant. What are the tasks that need to be done?

Xiron: The engineering work flow report reads like a to do list for a pre-commissioning unit. This drive is outside the experience of most of the old Chin’toka engineers including myself.

T’Ashaya: It would be logical to inform you that my specialization is in warp field theory. I am aware that the Chin’toka, an Akira-class vessel, was not equipped with a quantum slipstream drive. I have participated in multiple QSD installations across several ships. Should you determine it to be necessary, I am prepared to provide my expertise to you or to members of the department who may be less familiar with the system, in order to improve operational efficiency.

Xiron: I would greatly appreciate it. We have some very reliable people here, they just need a change to get up to speed. Alpha shift is about to go through an alignment and variance test of the drive/deflector interface. Join me, I could use some notes.

T’Ashaya: Response

The Chief Engineer led the new officer out into Valkyrie’s enormous Main Engineering. Everything on Valkyrie seemed to dwarf the old ship. Several ensigns and crewmen were reading over PADDs as they stood but the ship’s slipstream drive. A Chief Petty Officer was watching as a nervous crewman slowly adjusted the phase variance on the drives main console.

Xiron: So far it is baby steps but the crew will be ready for the next mission. What do you think Ensign.:: Her antennae moved up and down trying to read the new officer’s thoughts.

T’Ashaya: Response
