((Main engineering, Deck 18, USS Thor))

Wyatt was stood with Nova running through the results of some simulations of the impact of the subspace weapon on the local space within the system.  Following their rapid exit from the area several probes had been launched to investigate the area.  The results weren’t good and showed that the damage was expanding but luckily also slowing.

Most repairs had been completed by the damage control teams but diagnostics were still being run on the nacelles which had taken a bit of a battering when the Puritas had exploded.  The last thing they needed as a failure of the nacelles when travelling at warp for an extended period.

Wyatt looked up as he heard his new chief clearing his throat.  He hadn’t had much time to spend getting to know the Orion since he joined the Thor but he hoped to fix that soon.

Caras: ::ahem:: Team, The captain has asked us to try and tackle the issue of the subspace weapons, a pretty big problem considering it’s one of the reasons it brought us here. I’m glad to have you both here, I’m sure we’ll find a solution together.

Ral: It’s going to be a tall order, Chief.  They weren’t banned because they were easy to tackle.

Veylek: Response

Caras: I’m mostly caught up on your report Ral, but you’ve seen these weapons first hand. Is there any path of discovery you think we should pursue first?

Ral: Our initial response to the weapon was pretty rough and ready.  We had to respond quickly to the threat. Saturating the shield with Tachyons.  However, this caused problems in itself and didn’t stop the damage to subspace.  We could expand on that or perhaps modify some of our existing technology.

Veylek: Response

Caras: Ensign Veylek, your tactical expertise is just what we need in order to attempt to discover how these weapons are commonly deployed and what their vulnerabilities might be, as well as testing any counter measures we come up with. You’ve also had first hand insight into New Gaia, while I have first hand experience with Nova Terra, and I'm thinking getting into their heads could be a way of thinking that might get us a solution. Any insights come to mind?

Veylek: Response

Ral: I don’t suppose the captain would contemplate us doing a sweep and beaming out any weapons we found? ::raising his eyebrows::

Caras: Response

Ral: Only joking, Chief.  ::smiling::

Wyatt let his eyes wander around the engineering area as thoughts popped in and out of his head.  He watched the changing patterns of the warp core as it generated the ship's mains power.

Ral: What if we could move any incoming weapon slightly out of phase?  Just enough to push it far enough out of the local spacetime.

Caras/Veylek: Response
