((Diplomatic Conference Room Blue, Deck 13, USS Thor))
Mosta’An: What is your stake in the relationship between my world and Nova Terra? You sought us out, after all, and graciously offered to host the peace talks here aboard your vessel.
It wasn’t suspicion per se that prompted the question, more a way to get a measure of their intent. He knew the line they gave at this stage: explore and learn, render aid where they could. Was it really as simple as that? They saw the problems occurring in Solace, and wanted to assist. Or did it still tie back into the weapons?
Saa seemed to take a metaphorical step back, allowing Promontory to take the lead on the question.
Promontory: I’ll confess, I have a vested interest in the outcome here. We believe in peace, and we know it’s achievable. Simply put, we think it’s a better way.
Saa: For both planets in the Solace system and for your continued exploration of the larger galaxy.
Was it really just peace they were after? And why peace in Solace specifically, a place so far off from their own home? There was a hint of truth to their answers, certainly; they seemed to be good-natured and generous enough that peace for the sake of peace would certainly interest them.
That said, Javad couldn’t believe that altruism alone motivated them. It was too simple and far too unrealistic. There was something else they were looking for, of that he was certain. He could ignore that, however, if whatever it was didn’t endanger New Gaia.
Mosta’an: So you are concerned our natural tensions may escalate into a full conflict? Do you imagine it plunging the local area into chaos?
Did the Federation view itself as some grand galactic law enforcement organision, moving from region to region, encouraging peace and cooperation? What happened when people didn’t agree, Javad wondered.
Promontory: Ah, yes. War, fighting, competition is bad for everyone, not just the primary combatants.
The Captain stood and made his way to the display screen, a black interface with a selection of coloured “buttons”. They resembled buttons only in functionality; these were digital things, like the rest of the display. Far beyond what they had on New Gaia.
He brought up a map of space, with a selection of areas highlighted with an orange outline. Text, exceptionally small, filtering in a list on either side of the image.
The location where the weapon was detonated, and the Puritas had met its rather unfortunate end.
Promontory: Destroying space, for example, is something that we’d like to avoid.
A gentle bow of the head, indicating her agreement.
Saa: ::Gently:: Subspace weapons are unpredictable and could cause surrounding space-time to collapse or even collapse this system. Those at the center of this conspiracy I hope are simply naive to the damage they could have done.
He allowed his gaze to travel to her, the glass stilling in his hand at last. While he maintained the smile, Javad allowed the air of joviality and warmth he so often wore to drop, if only for a moment.
Mosta’an: To circumvent the safeguards we have in place requires both knowledge and resourcing, so much so that the conspirators that plagues my world must have access to equipment and knowledge, which could only be obtained from those aware of the inherent risks of subspace weapons. The same must be said for Terra Nova.
Promontory: Just so. (beat) Well, shall we move to the larger conference room and engage with your counterpart?
Saa rose from the table and lingered a moment, waiting for Javad. He inclined his head and left the table, falling into step next to Promontory. Saa, however, followed slightly behind them. He appreciated the show of deference.
Mosta’an: Indeed. I have been looking forward to the chance to speak with the Chief Minister.
Saa: The larger conference room is Green, with trim and decor to match. ::She explained:: Starfleet enjoys bit’s color coordination.
Colour was intrinsic to presentation. The white of Javad’s own robes, the white worn by The Society of Service, the red of The Society of Aegis’s Redguards. Each designed to evoke a certain response and convey specific meanings.
Mosta’An: As do we New Gaians. Colour holds meaning, evokes emotions in those surrounded by it. Blue, for trust and stability, to calm the more fiery emotions. Green, for life, renewal, hope. Asture choices.
The interior decorator obviously wanted to encourage a certain set of behaviours and emotions within the rooms. No doubt the drinks and arrangement of the furniture, the lighting, and the backdrop would also help to encourage that particular outcome.

(( Corridor, Deck 13, USS Thor ))
The conversation had shifted to more casual topics as they moved from one conference room and into the adjoining corridor. Saa had been doing the vast majority of the talking, pulling out all sorts of facts about the ship and Earth, and anything in between. Javad was content to listen, mind elsewhere.
One did not achieve the future just by stumbling blindly along. There were preparations to be made, plans to enact. And a peace to craft.
Saa: Your people as you have said live very contented lives, Malik. ::She tilts her head:: Satisfaction is something as a Counselor I have found very hard for any people to achieve societally.
She didn’t believe the vision of New Gaia, or the success they’d had. It was understandable, she’d spent so little time on the world, and had lived such a different life prior to arriving.
Mosta’An: Satisfaction on that level takes years of work, and tireless effort from every citizen and world leader. New Gaia was a tumultuous place, long ago. My people decided they no longer wished to live like that; they wanted peace and prosperity for the rest of their lives, and the lives of all their descendants. You said earlier that hope is a choice, satisfaction is much the same.
Promontory: Response
As they continued along, Javad allowed himself to study the bulkheads, metallic and cold. The ship was silent, so very silent. He couldn’t even feel it moving.
He remembered the first time he’d set foot on a New Gaian ship, the roar of the engine had been deafening initially.
Saa: Then, why explore space? ::She tilted her head:: Exploration I have found is most often motivated by desire and curiosity of the people, is this one area where New Gaia and Earth still share similar views? Or is exploration of space something of the desires of the Maliks?
Mosta’An: Perhaps my earlier explanation did not fully encompass my people. The Society’s service to place like minded people together, where they may reach their fullest potential and serve the planet and its people best. The desire for exploration within the Society of Knowledge and the Society of Innovation is strong.
Promontory Response
As they walked, he gestured to Saa and Promontory.
Mosta’An: This desire these citizens had was so strong, their dedication so fervent, that we formed the Guild of Exploration, a joint project between the two Society’s to chart the unknown. First, New Gaia. Then Solace, and from there, why not further?
Saa / Promontory: Response
He could understand the misconception that perhaps New Gaia had no goal or desire. The truth was, as far as Javad saw it, was that New Gaia was a bastion of motivation; they had just been smart enough to find a way to hone each type of interest into dedicated groups.
Mosta’An: Perhaps our Guild of Exploration is not so different to how your Starfleet began? A group of people with a desire to see what the world, and what space, has to offer.
Saa / Promontory: Response
Their cultures were so vastly different, but the more Javad spoke about New Gaia, the more he found similarities. Perhaps not in how they administered to society, and Javad was almost certain the Federation would find the type of position he served, and the power he wielded on New Gaia, distasteful and uncomfortable.
Mosta’An: Some of our citizens have no interest in space or exploration. The Society of Service, for example, has no desire to explore the unknown; however will attend to a visiting dignitary, human or otherwise, with devotion. The Concierge, you recall? ::looking towards Saa::
