(( Canyon outside Chi-Ree, North Wadi, Xial, Vulcan ))

Alieth watched with mild gratification as the two aliens overcame their initial hesitation and approached two of the animals. She hadn't expected any trouble as they were generally docile and well-trained beasts that had carried off-worlders from one side of the desert to the other. But of course there was always a slight percentage of danger and disarray when animals were involved. Minimal of course, but decidedly noteworthy enough to be taken into account. She certainly wasn't going to mention it out loud, of course.

Her gaze shifted to the young intelligence officer, who was walking decisively towards one of the most alert animals, a large male with bronze fur. The first of them ready to make actual contact with the animals.

Alieth: If we keep this up all morning the sun is going to scorch your brains out.

Despite her usually flat tone, there was a clear tease in her words. Sort of. They would not be the first aliens who were unable to endure the burden of the desert sun in broad daylight.

Jehe: Never fear doctors.

del  Vedova: Okay, Okay.

Alieth let one corner of her mouth curve upwards, hidden behind the fabric that covered her face. The two of them managed more or less smoothly, and within minutes they stood on the backs of the beasts.

Alieth nodded in approval, then drew the animal she was riding over to the two without a jockey, and then dismounted beside them and fastened the saddlebags. As the straps were fastened around their waists, both animals seemed to infuse themselves with energy and started trotting down the ravine, tapping their noses playfully, as if they were teasing each other.

del Vedova: Alright, this has been fun. Is, um, this it? Can we go home now?

Jehe: Come now doctor, where is your sense of adventure?

Alieth: ::Hopping back to the Vai-sehlat:: Oh, come on doctor, we have only just made our first move.

del Vedova: Response

The answer was just as she expected and again, Alieth was grateful for the material covering her features. Nic had an OPINION, and he hardly held his tongue, which was always interesting to witness. Before she could retort, the young Bajoran raised a quick query.

Jehe: Do they have names? Is there something we should call each of them?

del Vedova: Response.

Alieth: They have names, indeed :: Pointing to the animal she was riding:: This is Sun-Touched :: Pointing to the two riderless animals:: Those are White-Paws and Cub.

Jehe/del Vedova: Response.

She let her animal amble towards Nic, which allowed her to rest her hand on the human's animal. The sehlat let out a deep purr, and she stroked the arch of its powerful jaw gently to express her gratitude.

Alieth: This is Huntress, the pack leader. You have picked a fine mount, doctor, she is the fiercest of them all.

Jehe/del Vedova: Response.

She did not answer and instead kept moving until she reached the Bajoran. Once again she repeated the motion and rested her hand on the animal, only this time, her eyebrows furrowed briefly, before she spoke once more.

Alieth: And this is Bob.

Jehe/del Vedova: Response

If the Vulcan had been someone given to such overindulgence, she might have shrugged her shoulders at that moment.

.

Alieth: It is certainly unusual, but Vai-sehlat choose their own names, so there must have been a story behind it.

Jehe/del Vedova: Response

As they spoke, one of the animals roared spiritedly and, as if on cue, they all set off northwards, towards the gateway to the desert.

Alieth: They seem to be eager to run. Why not spice it up with a race, will you join in?

Jehe/del Vedova: Response
