(( Stellar Cartography, Deck 3 ))
The Thor’s two-deck stellar cartography chamber began on deck 2, but it was primarily accessible from deck 3 -- and it was also where he knew he would find two members of the crew, at least according to the computer. And while the computer had been wrong in the past, he didn’t see why it should be so this time.
When he and Geoff entered, he found the two officers he sought just where they should be. Ensign Peri Katsim was, Aron thought, more engaged, while Lieutenant Commander Udro Nepra, the new chief of science, assisted. He wasn’t surprised to find the two together, especially in stellar cartography, since they shared the same passion.
Kells: Hello, Lieutenant Commander, Ensign. I hope you’ll allow a brief interruption.
Geoff had run into their stellar cartographer a few days earlier and the two had spent a few pleasant minutes stargazing.
Teller: I promise it’s business this time, Ensign Katsim.
Udro / Katsim: Responses
Kells: I would note that this seems right up your alley, Ensign. But what about you, Commander? How are you finding our facilities?
Teller: We’ve got every bell, whistle and platinum plated whiz-banger that Utopia Planitia could throw into a ship, plus a whole deck of spares. ::Geoff smirked and offered the man a handshake:: But if you don’t happen to like the color, just let us know.
Udro / Katsim: Responses
With their reasons made clear, Aron nodded once and motioned to Geoff to open the fernwood box. He didn’t want to take up too much of their time, but -- well, this was important.
Kells: I wanted to catch you both and present you with a couple of ribbons for your service during our last mission. Ensign, you certainly had an exciting introduction to service aboard the Thor, and for being a senior member of the crew during the ship’s dealings with the, hm, space pirates, I want to recognize you with the Operation Safe Harbor Service Medal.
He took the ribbon that Geoff handed, and presented it to Katsim.
Kells: The commander has his own, you see.
Teller: Well done, Ensign. You were invaluable on the bridge, and you’ve quickly cemented yourself as a member of this crew. I am certain this won’t be the last time I'm handing you ribbons.
Katsim / Udro: Responses
Kells: There’s one more ribbon I want to present to you, Ensign, for your part in the discovery of the antiviral agent that led to the end of the crop blight on New Bajor. Appropriately, I’m recognizing you, and the rest of the medical science team, with the Scientific Discovery Ribbon.
This ribbon was dark blue stripes against a green pattern, and Aron presented one of several from the fernwood box to the Ensign.
Teller: I spoke to Governor Velos earlier today and she expresses her thanks as well. Your work bought them the time they’ll need to stabilize the biosphere. An entire world will bloom again, and it’s thanks in no small part to you.
Katsim: Response
Kells: Congratulations, Ensign. You have an excellent officer on your staff, Commander
Teller: Hear hear. Commander Udro, welcome aboard the Thor. I hope we have an opportunity to chat in the next few days.
Udro / Katsim: Responses
Kells: Carry on, then. I’m going to surprise a few more of your colleagues.
There was an impish delight in the Captain’s voice as he moved off and Geoff tilted his head down, trying to hide his goofy smile.
Teller: Indeed, our new ‘run-by awarding’ is going to be the talk of the fleet any day now! Once again, well done you two.
Udro / Katsim: Responses
Aron left them with a slight smile and a final congratulation, and he and Geoff headed onward and downward.
