((Counselors Office, Deck 10, USS Thor, Four hours and Forty Minutes until QSD Overload))

The short sprint to the chief counsel's office left Alieth virtually out of breath. It wasn't a particularly long distance, nor did they move at an excruciatingly fast pace.

She simply wasn't up to the task of that little physical effort. Mainly because it had triggered the return of the nausea that had accompanied her the last few hours. A reappearance that she was not grateful for.

As soon as they crossed the lintel, the doctor left the medkit on the floor and proceeded to open it, as Teller stepped forward trying to get the picture of the situation. A pause that suited her perfectly, so she could regain a bit of composure.

Teller:  How long has he been like this?

Samara:  Response

The Vulcan doctor switched on the tricorder as soon as she could, and the small device soon began to register worrisome readings.

Alieth: It is still in its early stages. Help me get him on the floor, side decubitus. We will need something to prevent him from hitting his head, a pillow or a jacket will suffice.

Teller:  Understood, Doc, side decepticon. ::the Vulcan momentarily averted her eyes from the tricorder to observe the commander blink in puzzlement as while he surveyed the surroundings and,  shortly later, built a small (overly complicated) fortress in the center of the room. Nevertheless, he had the good sense to remove all the disruptive elements, thus creating a large safe area to work around the lying teenager.::  Help me lay him down over here.

Samara:  Response ?

The Vulcan made an attempt to assist in the process, but eventually she moved to a nearby spot, close to the boy's head, as she monitored the tricorder readings.

Her slanted eyebrows lowered on her forehead, darkening her eyes.

Her peripheral vision reported that a head crowned with a dishevelled cluster of reddish hair peeked over her shoulder to pry into the medical equipment readings, but this was only an infinitesimal distraction.

Alieth:  (in a whisper) I have never seen such high peaks of beta and gamma waves except… but that is not possible.

The head hovering over her shoulder vanished as suddenly as it had appeared, but Alieth remained absorbed in the tricorder. By his looks the boy was a Bajoran, but she had only seen such patterns in complications with mind melts or in complications involving telepathic species.

Teller:  Samara, did he say anything before collapsing?  Was he injured in the collision?

Samara:  Response ?

Alieth: (with a commanding voice) So Mister Teller, sir, I need you to look up the patient profile. Ma'am, do you have any clue about what might have triggered the seizure? Any little detail is significant.

Geoff nodded and pulled a padd from the med kit.  Within a moment, he was linked to sickbays computers and their comprehensive health records of the entire ships compliment. With a few taps and a link to Alieth's medical tricorder, Geoff had the young man's full profile.

Teller:  Got it - Dar Kalib, born 238305.10, age 14.  Mother Ens. Dar Elandra of Bajor, Father...Doctor Gabriel...::Geoff's eyebrows went up.:: of El-Auria Prime.

Alieth nodded briefly as the Acting Captain proceeded to unravel the data that completed some pieces of the puzzle that lay in front of her. Little was known about the El-Aurian physiology, and while the consensus was that they possessed no telepathic or empathic abilities, there was so little information about them (and the hybrids they produced) that she could not disregard the fact that these could were related.

After all, they were a particularly scarce and cryptic species, even from a Vulcan point of view, so she could not ignore such strong evidence of telepathic inferences that she had in her hands.

Furthermore, there was sufficient evidence in the medical literature of their sensitivity to disturbances in the space-time continuum, which could link the starship's attack to the extraordinary circumstances the adolescent was undergoing.

Samara:  Response ?

Teller:  Doctor, is it possible this young mans unique heritage is making him susceptible to something the rest of us aren't?

The minute doctor spun around to meet the former engineer eyes, and made no attempt to conceal the concern in her voice.

Alieth: Indeed. He seems to be afflicted with some sort of telepathic disruption of unknown origin

Samara:  Response

After the Bajoran's remarks, a heavy and dense silence fell in the office, pregnant with dark omens.

Teller:  Is there anything we can do for him?

Geoffrey's voice rang out slightly shaky.  Alieth relaxed her expression minutely, empathizing with the helplessness that betrays his words. She had been in the same place, many years ago, in the green-stained sand of the temple. And not too long ago, on the adjacent sickbay, with Raphael Watanabe, with Astrid Wethern and all the others.

Samara:  Response

She looked at the teenager's face. So young, with such a long life to live... if I could only get out of this.

The Vulcan's mouth narrowed to a thin, firm line as she laid the tricorder at her side and folded her slender hands into her lap.

Alieth: I could reach his mind and seek the source of the problem (Pause to stare Teller) And try to fix it.

Teller:  Doctor, are you sure that's wise?  That'd be risky even in ideal conditions.

If she had been somebody different, she would have chuckled at his inquiry, or maybe if he had been somebody else too, and his voice wasn't full of concern. But they both were who they were and some things just cannot happen.

Alieth: Wise? Certainly not. :: Her face relaxed briefly and one of the corners of her mouth curved upwards in a sympathetic expression.:: But a mind-meld is the best option. Maybe his only option

Teller/Samara:  Response

She listened to their words, yet she kept laying out the plan.

Alieth:  There is a potential risk that I might lose myself in whatever is disturbing Kalib' mind. If you have evidence that this is happening, you need to break contact.

Teller/Samara:  Response

Alieth: Lexorin. But I suggest only administering it to Dar Kalib.

Teller/Samara:  Response

The Vulcan avoided the gaze of the other officers present.

Alieth: I have my own reasons.

Teller/Samara:  Response

Alieth nodded ceremoniously and inhaled before she spoke one last time.

Alieth:  I have the utmost confidence in you both. ( Staring at the teenager's face ) I know you will do what has to be done, Geoffrey John.

Without further ado, she leaned forward gently and her hands slid across the boy's velvety cheek until her fingers rested firmly on the melt points of his temples and face.

Then she closed her eyes and uttered the traditional words.

Alieth: My mind to your mind, my thoughts to your thoughts...

Before she completed the line, her mind dissolved into Kalib's...
