((Holosuite #2, Deck Five, USS Thor))
When stuck in a malfunctioning holoprogram, the best course of action had to be to play to win, right? That was all Divya could think of doing, so she created a plan to give her team the best chance of saving them all.
Divya was careful to make her glance up to the saltshaker casual as she walked to her station. She hated being the center of attention while there was real work to be done. Her fingers itched to pull the phaser that was no longer at her side. Instead, she picked up her recipe, all five pages of it, and began to read, while constantly checking on her crew, her opponent, and everything else in the room.
Saa: We’ll need flour…
Rejac: Do. not. Touch. Anything.
A giggle escaped Divya's vocal cords. She couldn't help it. Her plan was already working. If all went well, not even the holoprogram would be paying attention to Vharo and Taj’el.
((OOC: Comment from Taj'el remain unheard by Tam.))
Taj’el: Commander Saa… Commander Tam… I appear to have misplaced Ensign Vharo.
Rejac: I will handle the ingredients.
Saa: Fine.
She had only managed to measure the flour when the sharp crash of metal drew her attention. Utensils flew into the air and skittered across the stage. Saa emerged with a full-sized Bat'leth. The next sight was unbelievable. The councilor simply stood still near Rajac's station, and his mechanical mixing tool spun out of control, flinging chocolate batter everywhere.
Saa: You’re gett-
He cut her off with a withering glare and threw the tool across the floor. It clattered loudly for several seconds before finally coming to a stop off stage.
Rejac: Not a word, soft one.
A glance up at the saltshaker revealed Taj'el, teetering on the outside of the glass cage. There was no sign of Vharo. Divya decided it was in their best interest for the tension on stage to remain high.
Tam: Oy, she is the toughest soft one you will ever meet!
As she gestured at the offending Klingon, a powdery mixture containing flour was flung off her spoon in a white poof that resembled clouds. A new poof accentuating every other word. The crowd appeared and disappeared, providing a smattering of crackled laughter. She wondered if this simulation had now lasted as long as the last simulation.
Saa: Response
A chunk of time followed in which Divya made cake batter as quickly as she could, while occasionally antagonizing her opponent and riling up the crowd. The Saa factor was working out very well. The holoprogram had to bring the audience in again and again to create a laugh track. It gave Divya several opportunities to roll her eyes up to the cage and note that Taj'el was diligently working away at something. She was worried that Vharo had been out of sight for so long, but Taj'el hadn't alerted her to anything wrong, so she put the cakes in the oven and started making icing with an ominous spinning device. Now her station and her uniform were covered in sugar and flour dust.
Suddenly, the room went dark again, and silence rushed into her ears. After the constant onslaught of the audience, the overly loud announcer, and the clattering of Saa's station, the silence was more than welcome.
Taj’el: I hope this is a good thing…
The glow of the holodeck grid pattern flickered on and off before solidifying and staying on. The medical officer, sitting on the floor, came into view.
Tam: Taj'el, you did it! Great work.
Saa: Response
Tam: Computer, arch.
Predictably, nothing happened.
Saa/Taj’el: Response
Tam: Alright, we need to find the problem before a new holoprogram starts. Check out the panel beside where the arch should be, and I will examine the box on the floor. ::glancing at Saa:: Maybe don't mention to Carras or Ral that I don’t know the name of the box control thing.
Saa/Taj’el: Response
The communications officer, who was decidedly not the engineering officer, knelt on the floor in the far corner and found the control box thingy but not the control circuitry she had expected to see.
Tam: Umm, isn't there supposed to be a computer panel here instead of this?
She held up a thick cord attached to the control box. The other end ran underneath the floor. The archless empty grid of the holodeck gave her no other ideas, so she pulled up a section of the floor and started to follow the cord.
Saa/Taj’el: Response
