((Shuttle Magni, Local Space Outside USS Thor))

Wyatt had executed a couple of sudden manoeuvres intended to stress the ships structural integrity and inertial dampeners.  They could never tell what situation they would be in so having a quick jaunt around the station  at half impulse would hardly have tested the drive systems.

Meris: Structural integrity remains stable across all flight conditions observed thus far. Warp power coming online.

Ral: Plasma flow and modulation is looking good.

Kreshkova: Vonce she's in varp, let’s leave here zhere for about zhirty seconds before ve drop her out.

Wyatt saw a new window open up on his console as Meris plotted a new course.

Meris: Recommend course heading three-one-zero to avoid traffic around Deep Space 14, Lieutenant.

Wyatt made the required input into the console and the computer confirmed the full course, adjusting for any local anomalies.  Finally he pressed the flashing engage key which would command the computer to form the warp bubble before dropping them into subspace and carrying them forward many times faster than the speed of light.

Ral: Course laid in. Engaging at warp 2.

The ship made a small turn as the power from the warp core ramped up.  Seconds later the points of light stretched into streaks of light.  Wyatt monitored the ship's systems as Meris concentrated on the warp field geometry. Everything was going smoothly when he sensed a change in Sasch’s mood.

Kreshkova: Oh... no!

The two pilots immediately turned round in their seats to look at Sasch.

Meris: Commander? Is everything all right?

Ral: What is it?.

Kreshkova: Our comms - and I’m sure zhe Zhor’s bridge - has just received an SOS message from Captain Promontory.

An SOS!  If the captain had sent an SOS then he must be in real danger.  The captain was always well protected by the crew and now he was away from the ship and currently out of immediate reach.  The jovial atmosphere disappeared as their training kicked in and they were ready for action.

Kreshkova: Mister Ral, drop us out of varp, turn us around, and take us back to zhe Zhor.

Ral: Aye, Commander.  Dropping to impulse and plotting reciprocal course back to the Thor.

Meris: I will arrange priority clearance for us to land.

They dropped to sublight speeds and the shuttle made an immediate turn, the heading changing to the most direct route to the Thor.  He hit the engage key and the warp drive once again kicked into action.

Meris: Thor Shuttlebay Operations, this is the shuttlecraft Magni requesting immediate recovery clearance under priority conditions.

Meris: The main bay is unavailable. It will take them several minutes to make room for us or, if we want to land immediately, they are recommending using the fantail landing area. They'll then recover the Magni via the fantail lift.

Ral:  Making the adjustment for the alternate approach.

Kreshkova: Response.

As Sasch spoke they once again dropped out of warp and the shuttle made auto adjustments to bring them in on the correct approach as the Thor quickly grew larger through the large viewport.  Moments later the ship slowed to an almost stop as they awaited confirmation that they were cleared to land.

Meris: Shuttlebay Operations confirms we have immediate clearance to land on the fantail.

Ral: Taking us in.

Kreshkova: Response.

The shuttle approached and then dropped gently onto the deck.  The hum of the power systems died off as the shuttle was powered down.
