(( Outpost – VX-LON-3 – The Tangle ))
Kreshkova: I am glad zhat is over. ::Swiveling in her seat:: Are you bozh in vone piece?
Naledi: Snap Pop… Yes
Sasch chuckled as Alveth patted himself down, double-checking that he was, in fact, in one piece.
Alveth: Yessir, all my pieces are together in one!
Kreshkova: Good! It vould look bad on my personnel file if I lost someone on a shuttle ride.
Because of the unusual way that Naledi paused, Sasch’s brow furrowed, unsure what was wrong.
Naledi: Snap Pop Hiss Crack… The cow fell over the moon. Snap Pop Chirp… Were they our responsibility?
Alveth: Yes, well said.
But as the Xindi tried their hand at joking, Sasch’s mouth split into a smile.
Kreshkova: Vell, at least zhey vere not my responsibility
Naledi: Crick Pop Hiss… What is the atmosphere?
Sasch looked at Alveth.
Alveth: Uh… in a word.. bad. Humans and Ullians will definitely need rebreathers. And for the Xindi…
Kreshkova: Naledi, even if you don’t vear a rebreazher, I vould take vone in case you feel zhe effects of zhe atmosphere later.
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Hiss Crack… Brief. It’ll get to speed with the expedition leader.
Alveth: I understand we haven’t been able to establish any sort of communications link with the expedition thus far. If they don’t know we’re coming, they might not react well to being surprised, even if they sent out a distress call.
Kreshkova: Good point. So let’s see vhat ve can do about zhat, da? ::Tapping her combadge.:: =/\= Vexilon 3 outpost. Zhis is Lieutenant Sasch Kreshkova of zhe USS Zhor. Ve are here to answer your distress call. Can you hear me?=/\=
Crackles and static were the only audible responses. Sasch wrinkled her forehead, shrugged, looked at Alveth, and said…
Kreshkova: It vas vorth a shot. Ve should continue to try every so often. Zhe base may haf a special shielding since Class K planets regularly haf tornadoes.
Naledi: Response
Sasch locked down the shuttle controls and turned in time to see Alveth grabbing them each a rebreather. Sasch slipped hers on, pulling the stretchy fasteners tight and creating an air-tight seal around her mouth and nose.
Alveth: Can you hear me okay?
Kreshkova: Da. I can hear you fine.
Sasch watched his eyes to make sure he could hear her as well. Then, after he stood aside, she slipped in behind him and grabbed a phaser. oO Better safe zhan sorry. Oo
Naledi: Response
Alveth: Alright, opening hatch doors.
The anticipation of this new atmosphere sat heavy in Sasch’s lungs even before the door was opened. And as soon as it was, Sasch’s hair was blown back from her face, and the frosty gust nibbled at her nose and earlobes. She blinked several times.
Alveth: I think I’d better put on some safety glasses as well.
Naledi: Response
Sasch agreed and grabbed eye protection as well. After which, she stepped out of the shuttle and looked around running her hands up and down her arms. The visibility wasn’t horrible, but a low mist hung around the ground. There were different buildings of various sizes dotted here and there, but there was an outer electric grid around the entire compound, which screamed ‘stay out.’ In the distance, Sasch could see grey rocks protruding out of the ground, like someone had folded the planet’s crust and brought it to low, but jagged peaks. Even then, the Russian couldn’t make out any vegetation.
Kreshkova: I zhink ve should gif the largest building a try first. If ve hurry, ve may not need cold veazher gear.
Making sure her team was with her, the green-haired Lieutenant made her way to the building she had already indicated. She walked up to the door, but it didn’t part for her.
Naledi/Alveth: Response
Kreshkova: Computer, override lockout, Kreshkova Beta56Tango.
Computer: Acknowledged. Lockout override successful.
Naledi/Alveth: Response
Sasch unholstered her phaser, keeping it at her side as she entered the building’s airlock. The door hissed shut behind them like a snake warning its prey not to come any closer. She felt her ears pop and the air cycle out before the inner doors slid apart, allowing her to taste the stale but warmer air.
The building looked intact, but as the group walked inside, the Mission Specialist saw a reception desk with a mug of half-drunk coffee. A few doors were opened, and some furniture had been overturned, but nothing appeared broken or vandalized. She called out…
Kreshkova: Hello! Is anyvone around? Ve are from Starfleet and are here in answer to your distress call. ::With no answer, she tapped her combadge.:: ::Tapping her combadge.:: =/\= Vexilon 3 outpost. Zhis is Lieutenant Sasch Kreshkova of zhe USS Zhor. Ve are here to answer your distress call. Can anyvone hear me?=/\=
