((Sevantha Saa’s Counselling Suite, Deck 10, USS Thor))

Sasch’s fingers drifted across the chaise cushion, the fabric shifting from dark to light with the change of pressure. If only mistakes could soften as easily — disappearing under the right touch.

She searched for words that wouldn’t twist on their way out, but the harder she tried, the more her thoughts tangled, so the Mission Specialist had to make do with everyday words.

Kreskova: Sometimes I get inside my own head, and I don’t see zhat I’m burying myself in vhat’s infront of me.

Saa: Our minds can be sanctuaries for us, but, I can personally attest, spending too much time there can cause you to miss out on new opportunities in directions you might never have thought of. ::She gave a hint of a smile:: Or miss reasons to spend time outside one’s head.

Kreshkova:  I do hope some day, zhat I haf a reason not to bury myself in my vork.

Saa: Is time up?

Kreshkova:  Commander, I’m supposed to be on shift here in a few minutes.  I should probably go shortly.

The two women stood together.

Saa: A hard stop then, I wouldn’t want you to be late, especially considering now you have to maintain office hours instead of just reporting to the bridge.

At Sevantha’s words, Sasch paused mid step and set her foot down, turning to the counselor.

Kreshkova: You are right.  I never realized zhat hafing an office vizh scheduled time to vork is a different sort of task master, zhan reporting to zhe bridge or to shuttle duty. Effectively being my own boss cuts bozh vays.  I zhink I vill like it more vonce I feel settled in, but even now, it’s not bad, only new and different.

Saa: If you are ever looking for opportunities to help escape your mind for a little while. ::Seeming to consider before finally offering:: I know a few ways to relax that do not require the crowds of Hammer’s or Valhalla, if you are ever interested.

Something warm sparked in her chest — a small flame, steady and growing.

Kreshkova:  I vould very much enjoy zhat, Sevantha.

The choice of using her first name, strengthened the crackling glow - a fire of friendship was kindling - and they were both fueling it.  The warmth settled in her face creating a comfortable smile on Sasch’s lips.

Kreshkova:  Zhank you for zhe offer.

Sasch wanted to say more, but time doesn’t pause for the whim of a lowly Lieutenant, so with that, she turned with a lightness to her step and headed for the office door.  It had started with Ay, who was so easy to talk with and to connect with.  It was continuing with Sevantha, who seemed to understand Sasch almost as well as the former pilot knew herself.

Sasch had always lived inside her own quiet. But Ay. And now Sevantha. Without asking her to change, they opened the door outward. Life could only be truly lived outside of oneself.
