to USS Thor – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((USS Thor, deck 5, Holodeck 4))
((USS Invicta, Bridge))
The Xindi Insectoid cruiser fired upon the Shra’Tik. Ch’zila was still holding it and steering it away from them.
Tito looked away from the viewscreen, staring straight at Naledi.
Tito: Whatever your choice, we will stand by you Captain. But I don’t think we should allow Ch’zila sacrifice to be in vain.
Naledi: Pew Crack Snap… We leave. Tell engineering to prepare.
Tito couldn’t avoid the unfolding that was continuing on the viewscreen. Ch’zila was clearly aiming the Shra’Tik against the cruiser. He nodded to Naledi and then turned.
Tito: Understood Captain. ::looking at Alora:: You have your orders Ensign.
Naledi: Pop Tick Snap Creak… When engineering has conferred with helm, engage at your own initiative.
DeVeau: Yes sir.
He stood and looked to the nearest console. Naledi felt a natural and bonding connection with the former antagonist Xindi. Even if they were in the holodeck.
Tito felt it now as well when he wasn’t able to look as the viewscreen brightened at what he knew was an explosion.
The respect an holographic simulated character had earned was the same he would give to any living sentient being that was worthy of it.
The Invicta turned as Naledi ordered and they began to break away from the confrontation.
Tito walked close to his seat as he checked on the progress of the ship’s repairs and navigation.
Naledi: Pew Crack Snap Pop… Lieutenant Tito, Ensign DeVeau, how are systems coping post event?
DeVeau: Scans are struggling with the plasma, but I’m not reading signs of any active ships - nothing’s following us. Closely, at least.
Tito: Engineering reports repairs are underway but won’t influence our navigation.
Naledi: Tick Snap Crack… ETA To Deep Space Nine?
Tito: At present speed thirteen hour and twenty four minutes… Approximately…
Alora received something she felt she should share.
DeVeau: Sir, the brood is safe and healthy…and hatching has started. They should emerge any moment.
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Hiss… Very good.
That was the good point of their mission. At least these newborns would be safe.
DeVeau: I would like to propose that we greet them.
Naledi: Pew Pop Tick… Very Well. Let’s go
Tito wasn’t exactly too curious over it, but since they both agreed to, he would join.
Tito: Lead the way Captain.
The three of them made their way to the turbolift. Tito hoped that this would be the natural ending of their program.
After all, what else were they going to endure?
The challenge was met, the difficulties surpassed and their survival assured.
As they entered the shuttlebay, now playing as an improvised nursery, Tito wondered if they should have kept the EVA suit on.
Maybe that was the last challenge, one more obstacle for them to overcome?
Considering how twisted this training program was it might be just that…
DeVeau: Oh! They’re coming!
Tito arched an eyebrow as he looked to the hatchling pods with an intrigued expression.
Tito: Indeed…
Something was wrong. He felt like something was terribly wrong. And when the music played he was certain of it. His expression shifted to an annoyed one as the newborn Xindi Insectoid born under a musical number and almost danced their way out.
It was a light ending… Perhaps something to break down the seriousness of their simulation.
Under different circumstances…
No.. He shook his head. Under any circumstances he couldn’t have liked this… Mockery…
They had connected with Ch’zila, with the stranded Xindi only to have their broad valse their way out?
His musings were interrupted by Alora’s voice.
DeVeau: Well…
Alora stated, her eyes turning toward the two companions.
DeVeau: That was…different.
Tito narrowed his eyes and was about to state how much he felt this was more than just different. And he had even opened his mouth.
But truthfully this might have been the best conceived ending. Maybe there was some reason in madness, or something like that.
And he knew Alora liked music. Naledi seemed OK with it as well.
Why would he spoil it with his seriousness?
He shrugged.
Tito: And unexpected… ::he smiled as he looked at them both, but paid special attention to Naledi:: We made it. Good job Captain.
Naledi deserved it. They already outrank him, and Tito would gladly follow their command.
Maybe one day the program would be real.
Minus the dancing Xindi obviously… Although… Does Nalendi dance?
End scene for Tito
