With a bar rag over one shoulder and machine grease on his hands, Geoff took a breath and stood back to see if his little side project had finally come together.  This was a project long delayed, constantly put off or delayed by the urgent problem of the moment.  It had always been on his to do list since the day he stepped aboard the Thor, and now nearly a year later he'd finally found the time in his schedule and the deep well of obsessive passion that had driven him from his quarters at two in the morning.

His recent experience within his own mind had proven to be strangely illuminating to Geoff, awakening memories of friends keenly missed and moments warmly remembered.  He'd been reminded 'of' himself, in a way Geoff hadn't realized he needed.  At his core, Geoff was always most satisfied when he was building something, ideally something that could be used and enjoyed by as wide an audience as possible.  As an Ensign, Geoff had harnessed his passion for construction into a small coffee shop that had quickly become that ships social nexus.  He'd been happy there, puttering behind the counter or tending the hydroponic beds of coffee beans he'd grown up from samples personally collected.  It was his small shrine to the finest organic suspension ever devised, and through his passion he introduced (or some would say addicted) many others to the joys of a freshly made brew.  And it was finally time he shared that same passion with the Thor.  The sign outside the door, with the stylized logo that had come to represent the shop across the fleet, said simply 'The Brew Continuum.'

And today was the grand-ish opening.

He'd taken over a series of VIP offices that had sat mostly unused since they left Til'ahn, reasonably confident Flt. Cpt. Kells wouldn't mind their absence.  He'd ransacked an engineering lab for tools and parts and shanghai'd several crewmen who had largely followed him out of bemused curiosity.  It wasn't every night the XO decided to build a coffee shop in his pajamas.  It had taken the better part of the shift, but the new space had come together pretty nicely to Geoff's eye.  One whole wall was a row of floor to ceiling windows, looking out and slightly down.  At the moment, they gave a startlingly vivid panorama of Vulcan, the amber red hues of the deserts and the sparkling cities easily visible.

Walking through the double doors, a long counter ran from wall to wall along the right hand side while the room itself was broken up with comfortable lounging chairs and tables.  Stools sat along the counter, offering seating or a place to lean for those in a hurry.  Behind it all was a huge rendition of the shops logo, the Starfleet delta and the silhouette of the Thor herself, stretching from floor to ceiling.  Even the shops slogan, 'The Fastest Coffee in the Fleet,' which had been a small joke from his time with Project Capstone held new meaning here aboard the Thor, where they had exceeded all his personal records for velocity.

At the end of the counter sat his newest design for a coffee infuser.  It was a bit easier to use than the original he'd pieced together on the Veritas, but it would still make a perfect shot of espresso every single time.  When he loaded the grinds right.  When he actually ground them correctly.  Geoff shook his head, somehow having forgotten how complicated this all was.  He'd become so practiced at it on the Veritas that it had become second nature.  Now, sweeping aside loose grounds again, Geoff rechecked his grind and loaded up the handle.  His first cup of the Thor's own locally brewed coffee would be ready soon and the smell was already filling the shop.  Wiping his hands on a bar rag and leaning against a small stool he'd propped nearby, Geoff looked up in surprise as the double doors slid open, admitting his first and very surprised looking patron.

Any:  Response

Teller:  Well you're certainly up a little early.

Any:  Response

Geoff shrugged expansively.

Teller:  I couldn't sleep.  And when I can't sleep I get fidgety.  And when I get fidgety I need to build something.  ::Geoff looked around, bemused:: I may have overdone it a little.

Any:  Response

Geoff smiled and made a show of brushing clean a space on the counter.  He gestured to a nearby stool.

Teller:  Well, turns out you're this joints first customer.  We'll serve anything the replicator spits out, but the speciality of the house is good old fashioned hydroponically grown coffee.  Ever had the real thing?

Any: Response
