(( Arboretum, Deck 5 ))

Aron and Geoff entered the Thor’s large arboretum and wound around for a minute or two as they searched for the officers who were supposed to be there. Aron marveled at the mature growth throughout -- the arboretum was more like a forest, and the holo-walls contributed to the realistic illusion. He could have lost himself in that illusion if he’d had long enough, and he made a note to return to the arboretum more often in the future. However, a soft murmur led him on and grew louder as they approached.

A couple meters on, and he and Geoff discovered three officers at the side of a small pool, one from science, one from medical, and one from security. As he had already twice already, he smiled on approach and apologized for the interruption.

Kells: It’s good that I’ve caught you all together. Lieutenant, Doctor, Ensign, I wanted to track you down to recognize your excellent service.

Teller: ...and I checked the label on the box this time, Ensign Dar. ::Geoff smirked:: Very little chance of another mishap.

Lovar / Quen / Dar: Responses

Kells: Doctor, you went beyond the call of duty on multiple fronts during this mission -- scientifically, when you worked as part of the team to develop the antiviral that ended the blight, and courageously, when you worked with Commander Brodie’s team on New Bajor’s surface. You more than deserve the Scientific Discovery and Good Conduct ribbons.

Aron took the pair of ribbons -- the Good Conduct, which he hadn’t yet given out, was striped in bright red on a patterned blue background -- and presented them to Doctor Quen.

Quen: Response

Teller: Well done, all of you. Doctor Quen, I looked into the matter you asked about and unfortunately Starfleet does not have a ribbon or citation for ‘unexpectedly forced to swim.’ All the same, congratulations.

Lovar / Dar: Response

Kells: Now, as for you, Ensign: I told you when you met up with me at the monastery that I appreciated everything that you had done, both for the ship and crew, and for me personally, during this last mission. But those were words, and now I want to back them up with official citations for your service. Ensign Dar, I not only present you with the Silver Lifesaving Ribbon and the Captain’s Commendation, but also with the Federation Cross.

Aron glanced at the ribbon of the three ribbons as Geoff passed them over, and Aron then presented them to Dar.

Dar: Response

Teller: Ensign, you’ve once again demonstrated your grit and cool under fire, and you had to do it several times in the same day. The Thor’s security team is lucky to have you.

Lovar / Quen: Response

Kells: I should note that the Federation Cross is the highest honor that can be granted to an officer for acts of gallantry and heroism. You deserve it, Ensign. I might not be here without you.

Dar: Response

Teller: To say nothing of the mountains of paddwork I’d have to fill out if we needed a new CO. Thank you, Ensign. Congratulations.

Lovar / Quen: Response

Kells: And you, Lieutenant Lovar, were part of a hostage situation that could have escalated much further.

Aron paused, unintentionally but darkly, as he considered his own experience in the administrative complex, which certainly had escalated. But that wasn’t his focus right now, and he brought himself back into the moment.

Kells: Neither I nor any other captain would expect you to experience what you did on New Bajor, and while it’s not equivalent, I do want to recognize you with the Prisoner of War Ribbon.

This ribbon was primarily black with two red stripes, and Aron presented it to Lovar with the solemnity it deserved.

Something had passed over the Captain’s face as he withdrew the ribbon and handed it over, but it was gone in an instant.

Teller: This is why I keep insisting lock picks should be part of standard away team field gear, sir. Well done, Mr. Lovar.

Kells: You, all three of you, are assets to this crew, and I’m honored to have you as members of my crew. Good afternoon.

Geoff threw a tight smile at the assembled officers as he hurried to catch up to the Fleet Captain, already halfway up the path.

Lovar / Quen / Dar: Responses

Again, Aron led the way out, though this time he and Geoff didn’t have far to go.
