The three officers who made the original deal with the Astracthoni were back in front of one of their leaders.  The deal had been fulfilled, but not with the full compliance and enthusiasm that was expected. It had not been satisfactory for anyone.

N37W02K: If you are so keen to tap a rhythm and move about, perhaps you should dance for your dinner.

Tam: Haven't you seen enough of us dance?

Saa: Stop. ::she took another bold step towards the voice:: Don’t you harm-

Divya detected subtle movements from Ral but didn't want to look and break N37W02K's concentration on Saa, but the light shining on them expanded. She still could not see anything but lumps in the dark.

oO What is his game? Oo

N37W02K: You bore me.

That was the worst thing he could say. Someone this impressed with his own power wanted them to literally dance for their supper. Boredom was likely the most dangerous thing they could evoke. The problem was that she had no idea what would interest him.

Saa: ~ I’m sorry ~

oO What could be new after so much entertainment? Oo

Ral: Response

He remained obscured, out of the light. Silence fell like a leaden weight over the group. The rise and fall of her chest sped up, outpacing the artificial breathing machine. The captain put her hands up in a posture of surrender. Suddenly, a new sound tore through the silence. This sound was also unfamiliar, but reminded her of an energy beam revving up.

N37W02K: Now, I suggested we negotiate your contracts.

Saa: Fine…::biting her lip:: Bring them out.

She hated this with every ounce of flesh she could still call her own, but it was not the time to risk her people. Instead, she gave the vile man a single nod.

Ral: Response

A light gradually increased in front of them as a screen powered on.  The temperature in the room also increased, and Divya's breathing became more exaggerated. Barzan II was not a warm world, and her mountain home even less so. Barzan's did not do well with heat, and it was starting to worry her.

Saa:  Do you have legal representation and lawyers? ::She tilts her head:: You are aware, based on the programming content, that most of our species have legal systems that oversee this.

Tam: I still say it might be something that would grab the interest of your people, since they don't know about laws.

Ral/N37W02K: Response

Saa: The last agreement I made with your species was with M217BS who claimed the authority to arrange these matters. What assures me that any of these terms won’t immediately be violated when the technology cages us in the shows again?

N37W02K: Response

Saa: How do I know the worth of your words if my previous agreements have been nullified?

This was going in a very bad direction. She wanted to fight, but was distracted by the heat. Her thoughts, along with her breathing, were more labored.

Tam: A contract is promises and conditions for both parties.

Ral: Response

Divya was still in an almost full suit of armor, and the temperature was still increasing. She had to get out of it if she stood any chance of staying conscious. The shoulder pieces were lying on the floor in front of her where she had dropped them. The chest piece was the next to come off.

oO It's odd that my cartoon armor transitioned to real metal. Oo

Saa: I want a hard copy. Your choice of archaic paper or maybe a PADD? I had one in my uniform if you could give me that back instead of this wedding dress. That’s the proper attire as Starfleet Officer makes a deal in.::She glances back:: Theirs too, we three made the original deal, we should be the ones to oversee it.

Tam: I've always been partial to papyrus.  It has a unique feel and satisfying crinkle.

Her words sounded heavy.  She knew she was rambling about unimportant things.

Ral/N37W02K: Response

The sounds of the energy, whatever it was, increased. It could be getting closer.  Time was moving far too fast. The urgency to peel more of the metal oven off was strong.  As she bent over to unstrap the knee piece, the plate on her back fell off with a satisfying thud.

Tam: Oops. I didn't mean to do that.

Ral/N37W02K/Saa: Response

The second knee plate was more difficult to get off than it should have been. She struggled because she still wasn't thinking clearly, and her fingers didn't seem as agile as usual. One more good yank should have done it, but her hand slipped. The momentum took it well past her knee, and she knocked the first knee plate out of the circle of light.

Tam: Sorry. Sorry. I'll get that.

Ral/N37W02K/Saa: Response

She reached for the armor that had rolled away, but stumbled over the back plate that had fallen behind her. Metal on metal rang out across the room. She wobbled and tried to steady herself, but the heat increased again. The big woman tumbled to the floor in a dramatic crash.  She was once again partially out of the circle of light.  It was nice on the floor, in the dark.

oO A nap sounds nice. Oo

Tam: Really sorry.

As nice as it was down there, she knew it was no time to give in to the heat.  She struggled onto her knees and accidentally snagged a piece of fabric that was covering something.

oO Oh. Maybe this is my chance. Oo

She grabbed the fabric and coiled it once around her wrist for a better grip.  One strong yank released the black fabric, which came tumbling down on her.

Ral/N37W02K/Saa: Response
