Taj’el was exhausted from the trip and relieved to be back aboard the Thor. They had never fully thought of the ship as “home,” but after time away, it carried a familiar, comforting quality. All they wanted now was to collect their belongings and retreat to their quarters until circumstances required otherwise.
Before that, however, they had samples from the Alpha Isles and other mission materials to deliver. They made their way through the ship and eventually reached the Captain’s Ready Room. After pressing the chime and receiving no response, they entered cautiously.
The room was dark at first, then automatically illuminated as they stepped inside. Taj’el glanced around, withdrew a small PADD from their pocket, and noted the message clearly marked:
For Captain Promontory’s eyes only.
Looking down at their gloves, that revealed a small Ronin crest stitched into the fabric and placed Captain Niac’s letter carefully at the center of the desk.
Not wishing to risk being drawn into conversation or interruption, they turned to leave quickly, pausing only when they noticed the bathroom door slightly ajar. They recalled overhearing an Ensign mention a so-called “challenge” involving access to the Captain’s restroom. The logic of such a contest escaped them entirely, and they dismissed the thought as they exited.
They moved on, reaching Deck 4 and pausing briefly. A familiar sense of disorientation settled in, the same confusion they had experienced numerous times aboard the Ronin. Without thinking, they corrected course and descended to Deck 5 instead.
Finally reaching their quarters, they checked briefly on Bio Jr and Snowy before shutting the lights off. With a quiet exhale, Taj’el allowed themself to collapse onto their bed, finally giving in to exhaustion.
