(( Deck 5, Section 12, Cabin 6 - Meris' Quarters - USS Thor ))

Sasch stepped inside the door when invited. She glanced around the main room, spotting the mural at once.  It was easy to tell that someone was moving in, but it wasn’t until her eyes quitted the living room that she saw the J’naii pilot for whom she was looking.

Kreshkova: You must be Ensign Meris.

Meris: ::nodding slightly:: I am.

Kreshkova: I am Lieutenant Sasch Kreshkova, former helmsvoman and current mission specialist.

Meris: It is a pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant.

Kreshkova: I vanted to velcome you aboard. ::Gesturing to the mural:: Vould it be better if I come back at anozher time? You are still getting settled, no?

As the Ensign entered, Sasch extended a hand to him.

Meris: I am, but you're not disturbing me. I've completed working on that for today. ::gestures to mural:: May I offer you a beverage?

Kreshkova: I’d enjoy zhat.  Zhank you. How about …  black tea number zhree, please.  Cream and sugar.

Sasch took a couple of steps toward the painted wall and tilted her head as she enjoyed the vivid colors and lively strokes.

Kreshkova:  Your mural is quite striking.  Zhose colors together remind me of a sunset over zhe Caspian Sea vhen ve vere out on our boat.

Meris: Would you like to sit?

Sasch looked over her shoulder at Meris, then back and the mural, before she turned around, heading for the offered seat.

Kreshkova: I vould.  I’m glad to see zhat you’re making yourself at home, and I hope zhat zhe Zhor vill feel like home soon enough.

Meris: To what do I owe this opportunity, Lieutenant?

Sasch took the offered drink with a smile.

Kreshkova: Zhank you.

The Russian stirred the tea, lifted the cup, blew gently — a ritual as automatic as landing a shuttle.  The tea was exactly as she ordered — perfectly average. Sometimes she missed the little accidents of hand-brewed tea: a leaf too many, a minute too long. Replicators had no soul for imperfection.

Kreshkova: ::Lifting the cup and saucer::  Zhis is good. ::Returning the saucer to the coffee table, Sasch wrapped her hands around the dainty porcelain of the cup.::  I came by for a couple of reasons. As a former helmsvoman, it’s always nice to meet anozher helmsperson — it’s fun talking shop sometimes, no? Besides, as zhe new mission specialist, ve’ll be vorking togezher often, and I hoped to get to know you.

Meris:  Response

Kreshkova:  I had a chance to visit zhe J’naii homevorld once … vizh my fazher. Ve happened to be zhere over zhe vone day vhere zhe fallah bush bloomed.  I’ve never smelled anyzhing qvite like it — delicate, but its fragrance lingered on zhe air, like it vanted to be remembered.

Meris: Response

Kreshkova:  My understanding, correct me if I’m wrong, is zhat most J’naii don’t leave zhe planet.  So do you miss it?  Or are you enjoying life out in zhe broad universe?

Meris:  Response
