[Interlude] Captain Trake Promontory: Contestant Number 2

Trake Promontory wasn’t on the Syren’s Song, of that he was sure. One minute, they were in the Communications Array and then, a rainbow of pixelated light had surrounded them and… transported them somewhere?
It hadn’t felt like a transporter, at least not a Federation one, but he had definitely been displaced.
And his clothes had changed as well. The formal outfit for the reception was gone and had been replaced by… some sort of linen short-sleeved shirt reminiscent of a 2370s uniform top.
It was difficult to see more than that in the dim light. He was behind some sort of individual console and there were shadows of figures near him
A voice came booming from somewhere overhead.
Voice-over voice (Vov): WELCOME BACK to Who’s Ready to Be an Admiral?
The lights were raised and Trake was momentarily blinded. After a few rapid blinks, his eyes adjusted. Only the space around Trake was illuminated and it was difficult to see beyond maybe ten meters in any direction, but from somewhere beyond that the sound of a large crowd applauding raucously.
In his immediate vicinity, Trake wasn’t alone. Commanders Herrick and DeVeau flanked him at their own console-podium things.
Promontory: Josh?
Herrick/DeVeau: Response
In front of them was a free-standing wall of sorts. It looked like some kind of screen. One corner was labeled “scoreboard” and had three “0’s” on it and the rest had nine boxes in a grid.
Vov: Now you all know the rules. Contestants will have three chances to answer questions right and make it to our BONUS LIGHTNING ROUND! Let’s begin!
A spotlight shown on Josh.
Vov: Contest number one, your first question is: ::a box on the screen transformed to present the words that were being spoken:: “What specific, mundane item did the sentient, prankster Enterprise computer materialize in the crew lounge while trying to entertain Kirk’s crew?”
Promontory: WHAT?
A loud buzzer shook the podium in front of Trake.
Vov: I’m sorry, you cannot steal in this phase of this round. Please let Contest One respond!
Herrick/DeVeau: Response
Another buzzer sounded.
Vov: I’m sorry, that’s incorrect. Players Two and Three, do you want to steal for half points or change the category?
Trake looked around. There was a large “2” on his podium and a “3” on Commander DeVeau’s.
Promontory: Uh…
