Captain’s Log Stardate 240210.11

The journey back to Deep Space 14 from the Hinterreach was mercifully uneventful. The Quantum Slipstream Drive performed admirably and the Science Department was able to collect data from the probes they launched on our journey out. The Tangle is proving to be quite a complicated phenomenon. There are some similarities, of course, in Starfleet’s database, the Badlands, the wormhole, the Briar Patch, and of course, the phenomenon from my own personal history. But the Tangle surpasses them all.

But that’s what exploration is all about, making the unknowns, known. And there seems to be no end to the unknowns provided by the Tangle.

Deep Space 14 is a little more known. I spent months stationed there, dealing with the fallout from the pan-dimensional incursions (including meeting a few of my alternate selves!) and preparing for the Thor’s launch.

I’ve instructed the crew to take a few weeks shore leave while we are waiting for our next assignment. It should be a good opportunity for communicating with loved ones back in the Alpha Quadrant as well as getting to know our home base a bit more.

I understand a few of the crew have also expressed some interest in exploring some of the colonies of “Little Alpha.” While I trust the crew, I’ve sent out a memo requesting no solo trips to any of those colonies. Few, if any, are officially sponsored settlements and they have a reputation for danger and ‘frontier justice.’ In addition, I understand some of the settlers have had some tensions with the natives. While I’m sure the Federation would love to help mitigate any such conflicts, most seem possessed with the sort of pioneering spirit that rejects such overtures.

For my part, I’m looking forward to seeing my brother again. For someone I just met last year, he’s becoming an integrated part of my family. Perhaps it is because he’s my only relation within 70,000 light years…

At any rate, Reverb seems excited to see her sire, or at least as far as I can tell. I showed her a holo of Meander and Avander and she seemed to get excited.

I’ll also have a raft of meetings with the Admiralty to attend. The discovery of additional humans, while not without precedent has excited the imagination of scientists and politicians alike. In fact, we will also be taking on an additional contingent of social scientists over shore leave.

While I’m currently caught up with personnel matters, I get the sense that as commanding officer that work is never really done.

Maybe I’ll start a poker game with senior staff or something…

Computer, end log.
