OOC: Apologies, I forgot to include that this is the end of the prologue for this scene.
((Director of Strategic Operations Office, Deck 1, USS Thor))
If their end goal was for material goods, there was an abundance of easier and more profitable targets. The most valuable cargo onboard the Syren Song was the diplomats themselves. If they did want to attack, it would be personal and highly planned in advance.
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Tick Crack… The main cargo of interest are the diplomats. If someone were to gain access, they could terrorize them for their own political agenda. A petty theft is unlikely in this case. There isn’t anything onboard of physically high value that can be sold undetected, and the amount of planning needed to get onboard wouldn’t be worth the cost.
Winters: Agreed.
Vharo: Response
Fletcher-Bouchard: I agree. That doesn’t seem likely given the amount of planning and access this would have required. Too much effort and expertise to be random or pointless.
Naledi: Tick Snap Pop… It agrees, Ensign.
If they wanted to break aboard for the love of the game, there were more rewarding challenges out there.
Although this was all hypothetical and nothing may happen at all, Naledi always agreed that it was better to plan for the worst, but hope for the best.
Winters: I agree, that does make sense.
Vharo: Response
Fletcher-Bouchard: ::turning to Vharo:: Do you have access to any older reports? Prior to the Syren’s Song announcement, I mean. The route’s clear now, but it may not have always been that way.
Vharo: Response
Watching as the holo-display changed again. Points of issue moved around consistently, but the proposed route never changed. It was always clear.
Naledi: Crack Pop Hiss Snap… It thinks the Syren Song is in danger. Why would a region of space with so much crime have a strip so perfectly clear? Especially given that we know the abundance of disruptive anomalies in the area.
Winters: ::unfolding her arms:: That is odd indeed. If our crew is in danger I want over there right now. I can blend in as a tourist or stand out as a Marine but I want over there.
Vharo / Fletcher-Bouchard: Response
As Naledi went to respond, they got a priority one message on bleep on their desk. Pressing the button with their palp, their other palp rose, ceasing the conversation.
Promontory: “SOS. Syren under attack, Janaran unresponsive. Send help.”
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Hiss Crack… Why did we have to be right? This is a general distress call, bounced through relays. Team, we need to triangulate where it came from, cross-referencing with the data from stellar cartography.
The marine captain jumped from their previously occupied seat, moving to a secondary console Naledi kept in their office for these such occasions.
Winters: Working on it but this message seems to have been bounced around a lot. I could use some help on the secondary relays as well.
Vharo / Fletcher-Bouchard: Response
Using their own terminal, they took their time in finding the signals source. For them, it was better to do it once correctly than several times incorrectly, but the trans-dimensional anomalies made the job… somewhat challenging.
Naledi: Tick Crack Snap Pop… Is anyone having any luck?
Winters: ::pausing:: Does anyone have the Janaran on scans?
Zooming in on the route and reports that echoed in from other ships in the area specifically designed to monitor the containment of the tangle, it seemed a plasma trail had been found that matched the harmonics of the Janaran’s class.
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Hiss… Potentially, it has a trace which ends. Logically, it would be at the end of the trail. But reports do not show a wreckage.
Vharo / Fletcher-Bouchard: Response
Winters: Agreed, but we need to realize they sent that message at the first opportunity. But that does not mean they are still there. What are the sensors telling us about their combadge locations? I am suspecting the attackers would have removed them but my gut says one of the bad guys has the badges either on his person or on the same deck.
Accessing the combadge network maintenance logs, hoping that the phasing sequence for the update of current locations (not a particularly efficient name for a system). The latest update only showed that the Starfleet combadges were onboard.
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Crack… It seems that the crew of the Syren Song and the diplomats are on two separate systems. The crew badges give an exact location, however the Starfleet ones are less specific.
Vharo / Fletcher-Bouchard: Response
The marine captain nodded their head in the affirmative. Their fingers continuing to glide and press into the glossy console surface.
Winters: Have you guys ever seen a signal degeneration like this? It looks like something is just erasing the signal from the transmission side but in an extremely odd pattern. I have never seen this.
Naledi: Pop Tick Snap Pop… Could it be an intentional attempt at sabotage?
Vharo / Fletcher-Bouchard: Response
Naledi: Crick Pop Snap… An anomaly?
Vharo / Fletcher-Bouchard: Response
Leaning back in their chair, Naledi wasn’t sure how else to proceed. The only way they’d get more information, would have been if they were physically there, scouting the location.
Naledi: Pass an approximate location to the bridge. Assuming we’re going in after the distress call, they’ll require our assistance. Let’s continue our attempts to crack into this system. Who know’s what else we may find.
Vharo / Fletcher-Bouchard: Response
