OOC: I've moved the post to Deck 8. The deck plans indicate deck 4 has no access to the Main Shuttlebay. I think deck 4, 5, and 6 are intended to be open air portions of the shuttlebay (no floor). Deck 7 is the launch and recovery deck while deck 8 is where repairs would occur. Also worth noting that this post occurs the day after Meris checks in with the CO; which hasn't been written yet.
(( Aux Hangar Deck, Deck 8, USS Thor ))
Following their meeting with the Captain the day prior, Meris had been officially activated on the ship's roster. It hadn't surprised them to receive orders for a duty shift the following day. However, it did surprise them to find out the duty shift was to be in the Main Shuttlebay.
oO Well, you can't fly the ship every day... Oo
The cavernous shuttlebay bustled with low-level activity as they entered, the air filled with the distant thrum of power conduits and the metallic clang of tools on duranium hull plating. Most unusually, the sound of an ancient Earth song filled the air. If they were not mistaken, the song playing was called “Fight for Your Right” and was performed by a group called the Beastie Boys. It had been a favorite of their Academy roommate, and the memory was enough to make Meris' mouth twitch upward. They imagined it was not unusual for the enlisted crew to play music while conducting repairs, and if the Chief of Shuttlebay Ops did not object, then who were they to do so.
Off to the port side of the bay, an Argo-class shuttle rested on support struts, its access panels open and awaiting repairs. A quick glance at the PADD Meris held in their hand confirmed that the craft was the Shuttlecraft Mjolnir and it was currently listed undergoing repairs to address damage sustained during the Thor’s previous mission.
The J'naii pilot approached, curious to get a look at what was going on. As they drew near, Meris spotted a red-headed Trill woman with Lieutenant Junior Grade pips working within an access panel that housed the aft sensor array.
Kol: Computer, log that the aft sensor array for the Mjolnir has been reseated following a sensor replacement, and the shield array is due for a few new couplings. I'm working on this crack in the hull.
Computer: Repair progress logged.
The pilot decided it was best to speak up since it seemed the Lieutenant hadn't noticed their arrival.
Meris: Good morning, Lieutenant.
Kreshkova: Response
Kol: Oh shi-
Meris raised an eyebrow at the aborted expletive and watched as the Lieutenant attempted to jump out of their own skin. The pilot then winced as the Lieutenant’s head connected with one of the shuttle access panels. The panel was knocked loose and clattered to the deck causing quite a ruckus.
Somewhere behind Meris the music stopped.
Kol: Owww.... Uh... Hi.
Caras: Response
Meris glanced at the Chief Engineering and then moved to assist the Lieutenant, lifting the panel and handing it to Kol.
Kol: Oh, heyyy... Yeah, I'm just... checking out the Mjolnir! I heard it was in a bit of a scrape, so I'm just uh... yeah!
Since the Lieutenant was wearing Engineering yellow, Meris hadn’t clocked the fact that they didn't belong here. They just assumed that Kol was assigned to Shuttlebay Operations. Perhaps this was even the Shuttlebay Chief - though that now seemed less likely.
As the Lieutenant mentioned they were working on repairs to the Mjolnir, the Pilot turned curious to see what they were working on.
Meris: What are you working on?
Caras/Kreshkova/Kol: Response.
Meris listened as Kol explained what they were working on and they nodded when the Aft Sensor Array was mentioned. Without asking permission, and while the others spoke, the pilot ran a remote diagnostic on the shuttlecraft's aft sensor array.
Meris: According to this the diagnostic, the sensor array is now operating within acceptable tolerances. Excellent work, Lieutenant.
Caras/Kreshkova/Kol: Response.
Meris did note that Kol looked rather bleary-eyed. They wondered if the Security Officer had been working through the night. The pilot pursed their lips lightly. Perhaps the Mjolnir wasn't the only thing in the shuttlebay that was feeling the after effects of the Thor's latest mission.
Meris: What were you planning to work on next?
Caras/Kreshkova/Kol: Response.
