Cmdr. Alora DeVeau - "Two For Two"

After Alora had Shyla, it seemed like time just flew by. Not that long ago, she’d been on the Eagle. Before that, Denali, which was where she had met Ghee’looth Xiron, now the partner of Is’kah Xiron. Even her posting at Ops hadn’t been more than two and a half years prior, but as she thought over all that had happened, it felt like much longer. What was it about having kids that made time go by so quickly?
DeVeau: Of course, I must send her something. But, I also want to give you something as well. Please tell me, what is your favourite colour, and what is hers?
Is’Kah: I prefer pink, while Ghee’looth likes maroon.
DeVeau: Pink and maroon. Easy! Well, sort of. I think I have something that will fit the bill for both of you.
Is’Kah: Thank you so much.
Alora grinned, then set about studying her plants. It wasn’t that she didn’t have pink flowers, but there were multiple options to choose from. It was just a matter of which pink and which maroon.
Is’Kah: Oh, since you know Commander Sherlock, are you aware that Aine gave birth about a year ago? She had a baby girl.
DeVeau: Yes I do!
Alora knew she couldn’t ponder and think all day - at some point, she would have to make a decision. She pulled one pot out, shook her head, then put it back and continued to consider.
DeVeau: Esme and Shyla, my daughter, are about a year apart.
Is’kah; Response
DeVeau: I wish I kept in touch better. I used to, but Shyla needs me more right now, and so my time goes to her.
If anyone could understand that, then Aine could, since she was both an officer and a parent just like Alora was.

Most people familiar with African violets likely thought they were all purple. That was not the case. While the original violets found in the forested mountains of Africa were indeed in the purple spectrum, over time, breeding had brought a plethora of other colours, including white, green, pink, blue, deeper reds, yellows, and the like. Alora had various shades and combinations of those colours available on her cart, which sometimes made it difficult to choose. After taking some time to carefully consider all the options, she finally elected on two. Both were in bloom with petals that sported frilled edges. The burgundy had partially double blooms, one layer with half of another layer on top. The pink had double layers of blooms, with a dark pink edging. Both sported medium dark leaves, each with shallowly scalloped edges. They were about the same size, and Alora turned to offer them both to Is’kah.
DeVeau: One for you, and one for Ghee’looth. I hope they bring you joy and add to the beauty in your lives.
