(( Deck 8 - Corridor - USS Thor ))
After enjoying a convivial breakfast with Commander Alora DeVeau, her child Shyla, and Lieutenant Divya Tam in the Main Mess Hall, Meris had stepped out into the corridor and decided it was time to officially check in with the Captain of the Thor.
Stepping up to a wall panel, Meris activated it and queried the computer.
Meris: Computer, locate Commander Trake Promontory.
Computer: Commander Promontory is in the Officer's Lounge, Deck One.
Meris: Thank you.
With their destination set, Meris made their way to the nearest turbolift. They stepped inside, the doors sliding shut with a soft hiss.
Meris: Deck One, Officer’s Lounge.

The lift rose swiftly, and when the doors next parted the atmosphere shifted noticeably. This corridor was quieter than the lower decks, with fewer officers moving through the space. Those who did were focused, moving with a sense of purpose that reflected the gravity of their proximity to the Thor's primary command center. The space had the feeling of being one where serious work was done and the pulse of the ship was most tightly controlled.
Meris followed the corridor until they reached the Officer’s Lounge. The doors parted smoothly, revealing a smaller, more intimate space than the busy main mess hall they'd just come from. Only a handful of tables filled the room, and just a few officers occupied them. Some sat in quiet conversation or enjoying brief moments of rest only steps away from their duty stations, while others worked on data PADDs, deep in thought and focused on their projects.

The atmosphere inside the lounge was professional but noticeably more relaxed than the corridor outside, the space was like a quiet refuge just steps away from the bridge.
Meris scanned the room, their gaze settling on a tall man seated at an otherwise empty table. The J'naii pilot recognized Promontory from the picture that accompanied his personnel file: his dark brown hair streaked prematurely with gray, a neatly trimmed beard, and golden-brown eyes that seemed to sparkle slightly when caught in the lounge’s overhead lighting.
Straightening their posture, Meris approached with measured steps. They stopped a respectful distance from his table and clasped their hands behind their back.
Meris: Commander Promontory? Ensign Meris, reporting aboard sir.
Promontory: Response.
Meris remained at ease but attentive, their expression calm and open. This was their first direct interaction with the Captain, and first impressions mattered.
Meris: I’ve settled into my quarters, sir, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself properly. I’m looking forward to serving on the Thor.
Promontory: Response.
Upon the Commander's invitation, Meris moved to take one of the chairs at the table sitting opposite their Captain. They then asked a question.
Meris: If I may, sir, do you have any advice for a new helm officer joining your crew? I understand you began your career as a Science Officer yourself.
Promontory: Response.
