((Alley, Promenade, Deep Space 14))
Lieutenant Commander Morro Caras was having a good night. Despite it starting rock, with people bailing on plans, and being targeted by a possible nemesis; Caras had found himself in the Starlit Decander’s back room with three other Starfleet officers. It had been some kind of summons, it wasn’t magical, other than it being a magical kind of night. It was however curated. Caras wasn’t sure how they had been chosen, but that they had. The room had been decorated neatly in trinkets that had been given willingly by participants after a nice evening. The proprietor seemed to be curating their experience, but also getting enjoyment at their banter as well. Caras wasn’t sure how to feel about being peeped in on, but once he knew he continued to play and attempted to convince the others to put on a show. Not everyone was a born performer though, however they had made quite the show when Is’Kah decide to go all in. At that point Caras was out all his chips, he owed a tour, and he had given up a project he had been working on for the last six months. Even so, it had been a fantastic game, and he had gotten closer with his fellow officers. Now with the game over the four officers were out in the night.
Caras: This is close to where I came in at. I will say that it was an interesting night. Some of it kind of magical in a weird way. Meris, do you still feel that the proprietor is an adversary? Not that I can blame you, consent is core to a trust relationship. I still don’t know how they knew all those things, but then again, I lost so maybe I'm easier to read than I thought I was.
He looked at the three officers that he had just experienced the strange night with. This was definitely worth more to him than his program.
Meris: I did not think of them as an adversary, nor do I now. Only as an unexplained variable that has not fully earned our trust.
That made sense. Not everyone wanted to open themselves up to immediate friendship like Caras did. Almost every person has a unique way that they categorized and analyzed individuals they saw as untrusted.
Tam: That is an excellent way to think about it, Meris. So much of our jobs and our training is to find out everything we can right away. It's nice to let a mystery play out without intervention for once. I also remain undecided, but am okay with that, for now.
Meris: Well, I suppose this is where we part. It has been... an interesting evening. I thank you each, but I believe I will return to the Thor now to reflect on what has transpired.
Tam: It has been unique and enjoyable. Thank you, Meris. You have given me much to think about.
Is'Kah: Response
Caras: It was an… experience. That’s for certain. I feel like it was mostly positive. I got to spend time with you all and get to know you all a little better.
Meris looked at each one of them. Morro turned to meet them.
Meris: ::to Tam:: Commander. ::to Caras:: Commander. ::to Is'Kah:: Chief. If I do not see you again before you depart, it was a pleasure meeting you and getting to know you. Good evening to you all.
Meris gave Caras a node, and Caras returned it.
Tam winked at Caras and set her arm on the shoulder of the much shorter Chief.
Tam: Good game, Chief. We will have to play again. ::to Is'Kah:: I'll walk you back to your hotel, old friend, and you can tell me why you're really here.
Caras winked back and gave Tam a nod.
Is'Kah: Response
Caras waved the two officers off as they walked into the distance, and split off separately from Meris. Back into the night of the promenade.
The night wasn’t young, but Caras was, so he decided to go to one last place. He turned a corner and headed to the main thoroughfare of the promenade.
He walked up to Barry’s Books of Wonder’s. He peeked inside, It was still open, he wondered if it ever closed.
Caras: This will be an interesting end to a night.
And he walked in.
