((Main engineering, Deck 18, USS Thor))

The capltain had given his orders, find a way to neutralise the threat from the subspace weapons the humans had somehow managed to develop.  Given their experience with these sorts of weapons, it seemed an almost impossible task.  But during his time spent as an officer and before that hist time on Federation stations he was well aware that the impossible was what drove them forward.

Caras: I can’t help but think that the best solution is educating both sides on how dangerous a subspace rift can be. It’s not something you want to launch in your own back yard.

Ral: You have actually dealt with these people, haven’t you?  That weapon was fired at us totally unprovoked.

Caras: If only we could somehow get them to sit down for a week for a technical symposium. Catch them up on all the technology that they’ve kind of skipped. The only reason we know is because our society has made so many mistakes. Ral, think you can give a tight two hour talk about the Elway Theorem?

Ral: Hmmm just the two hours?  Then again, we should probably avoid the more dangerous of our discoveries.  ::smiling::  Do we have any information on their manufacturing facilities?

He hadn’t spent much time with Morro but he liked the way the Orion thought.  He preferred it when his team used a little humour whilst working.

Caras: Funny you bring that up, I have asked Security for information on the facilities that they use in order to manufacture these weapons. Thor was able to find a handful of small sites. Ensign, you’re just in time to join us. What information do you have on the planetside shipyard used to build Nova Terra’s star ships?

Wyatt looked up as another Orion approached.  He found the Orion mind fascinating, so complex but also straight forward in their intentions.  He watched as Morro gave the new arrival a curt nod.

Vharo: It would be easier to show you, Lieutenant.  ::The woman's hand shifted towards the table, sectioning off a piece she as laid out a series of grainy photos and subspace scans.:: Now the NT shipyard is several hundred kilometers outside capital, two hundred and eight if you want a exact number, as you can see it's sandwiched in the valley with the entrance to the valley blocked off. ::Vharo circled two thin walls with a finger, clearly a gate and wall.:: Now, they may be technologically inferior but they are partially able to shield from the scans based on the ones I have on file however I've confirmed at least the main fabrication wing and the facilities office and engineering space. ::She circled one of two larger buildings alongside a smaller one.:: Based on the surface scans, there is more to the complex built into the valley wall and floor how much and the complexity is unfortunately seemingly obscured by surface interference.

Caras: That could be something. Perhaps there is a reason they chose that location to build and assemble these weapons onto the ships. That might indicate either a limited or volatile resource.

Ral: No matter how limited the resource, if they’ve made multiple weapons already, they could destroy a huge area of subspace.  And who knows the impact if they detonated multiple weapons in the same area.

Vharo: If what was said in the AAR's was accurate and the NT government is strictly controlling the flow of the information then building your shipyard far outside the city isn't that odd. The adverse location increases security as it separates both the workers and the civilians from each other, making information and material control much easier as well. I'll also lend some credence to the volatile resource theory, based on the scans I was given from the science department it is clear that something within the the underground section of the facility is giving off a large amount of energy, traces of it are spiking above ground in the fabrication wing and what I can only assume are transport vehicles moving back and forth between the shipyard.

Caras: Right, and if we can cut them off from their resources, or find a weakness in it, we can at least stop the manufacture of these weapons, maybe even find an exploit in them in order to neutralize them.

Ral: When I scanned their weapon before they attacked us I noticed that they used a phase coil as the initiator.  It’s a weak point in the design and I didn’t see any shielding protecting it.  It’s a possible avenue in.

Vharo: A weakness in the resource is more likely to succeed then cutting them off completely in my opinion, the former requires a much softer hand in most cases. I would presume that they are only storing the material at the shipyard for immediate use and it doesn't infact originate from there, the transport vehicles displaying traces likely move it from one location to another. If we could locate even a small sample I trust Engineering and Science staff could uncover something more substantial in the realm of problem solving. However in such cases you would be more knowledgeable than I in regards to the purely technical aspects.

Ral: There is the option of transporting up a small amount if we can locate a sample. But… I can’t be sure how some unknown material is going to respond if we suddenly hit it with a transporter beam.  That could turn out to be a big risk to the ship if it became unstable as it rematerialised.

Caras: Response

Vharo: Response

Ral: ::looking to Morro:: Do you think the captain would agree to a small team on the surface to get a sample?

Caras: Response

Vharo: Response
