((Nova Terra, Outskirts of Hudson))

Sasch watched Henry run off to his family and Viola shake her head as she continued to saunter toward the village.  The Russian waved at them both before returning inside the Odin.  She looked at the other two waiting for her.  Sasch’s mouth opened and hung there for a moment before words actually issued forth.

Kreshkova:  So of zhe two locations zhat they mentioned, zhe tavern seems like zhe best place to strike a conversation, get some food, and maybe some intel at zhe same time… Unless eizher of you haf ozher zhoughts.

Tito: You know these people better than us, and you are the team leader. I agree.

Naledi:  Crick snap creak pop… Likewise

No objections to her first idea… oO  Okay.  No vocalized objections at least.  I guess that’s something. I’ll take that little win.Oo

Kreshkova:  ::Sasch started to a side locker as she spoke.::After our last encounter here, I suggest zhat ve take sidearms vizh us.  Zhough, it should go vizhout saying, zhey stay on stun unless ozhervise ordered.

Naledi nodded, as they were handed a small phaser. They ensured that it was set to low-level stun before storing it on their side.

Tito: Better safe than sorry, and understood Lieutenant Kreshkova.

oO I suppose I vill haf to get used to that… feels like hearing my full name in school when I vas in trouble. Oo  Sasch refrained from rolling her eyes.  She supposed that she was going to have to get used to that, but coming from Tito, it felt … unnatural.

Tito: Do we have any specific leads to follow, or are we just searching for clues?

Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Crick Pop Twinge Hiss… As the assigned intelligence officer, and one who’s missed so much recently, I am here to reverify the information we already have as well as gather additional data for Starfleet, and of course the USS Thor.

Listening to Naledi was also strange.  Everyone else heard the - truly insectoid - sounds issuing from its mouth and then hearing the universal translator’s version of those sounds.  It took a little extra time.  Sasch wondered if that two or more second delay might be their undoing at some point, but everyone - especially her - had their flaws that they brought to the table with them.  That also meant that each of them brought a different set of strengths.  That’s what made each team special and unique.

Kreshkova: Vell, ve know zhat a joint venture between zhe two vorlds - Nova Terra and New Gaia resulted in a subspace veapon being detonated.  But neizher vorld is accepting responsibility for zhat.  Ve know zhat zhere is at least two factions here on Nova Terra.  Vone is a religious and xenophobic group.  Zhey didn’t hurt Caras, but zhe did perform some sort of odd ritual over him vhen ve first arrived.  Zhe ozher is a general who tried taking matters into his own hands and restraining us.  Ve’ll need to valk circumspectly.

Tito: And how did we get that information?

Naledi: Crick Snap Pop… Unverified, I shall leave the explanation to you, lieutenant

Kreshkova: Vell, I lived much of it, and can verify it first hand.  As for zhe subspace veapon, zhat information comes from zhe Captain himself.  So I’d say everyzhing I’ve told you so far is verified.  Zhis part is NOT verified however, ve are vorking on zhe operating assumption zhat someone is trying to bring zhese two vorlds back into var vizh each ozher.  Bozh leaders deny any part in zhe firing.  Bozh say zhat zhe veapon could not be fired vizhout approval from bozh.  So eizher zhey are bozh lying, or zhere is a zhird party trying to subvert peace.

Tito: I assume I can get some scans as we go?

Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Hiss… I see no harm, if they object, it’ll only reveal more about them.

Kreshkova: Get us as many scans as you can, Tito.  Let me know zhe moment anyzhing out of zhe ordinary comes up.

Tito: Response

Sasch watched as Naledi took point.  The Russian didn’t know much about the insectiod’s former ship or position, but before she said anything, Naledi answered the unasked question.

Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Hiss Tick Twinge… I hope you don’t mind? I am used to acting in the capacity of security officer, my instinct for taking the point clearly is still focused.

Sasch allowed herself a brief moment before responding.  While she wanted to be decisive, she knew that would come more with experience.  Right now, it was more important for her to get things right - or as right as she could.  Her gut reaction was to put Tito first.  He was human, and as they had already seen, the two of them that were human were more easily received.  But her second thought was, oO Even if Tito goes first…Naledi is still almost an entire head taller than him, and if I vent first?  The Intel officer is at least two foot taller zhan me. Oo Sasch finally made her decision

Kreshkova:  Zhat is fine. But if ve find hostility toward you, I go first.

Tito: Response

A small drop of some kind of liquid dropped onto Naledi’s compound eyes. Usually they didn’t mind, but this liquid felt… Off. Assuming it was rain, it should be more runny, why does it feel so sticky?

Naledi: Crick snap pop twinge hiss… Lieutenants, is this liquid on my eye irregular? It’s been a long time since I’ve come planetside

Sasch looked up.  They were walking near - though not directly under - a copse of trees, but the wind was blowing through the trees in their direction.

Kreshkova:  It is possible zhat it’s some kind of sap from vone of zhe trees. Maybe Tito can scan it for you, and see vhat it is.  Zhough sap doesn't usually fall in a single drop.

Tito: Response

Kreshkova:  Iz zhat somezhing ve should be concerned about, Lieutenant?

Her question was directed at Naledi, but Tito might be able to answer that as well.

Tito/Naledi:  Response

It wasn’t an overly long walk to the outskirts of town.  The sun was still well above the trees, but it seemed to be hurrying home - almost as quickly as Henry hurried home to his spouse.

Hudson reminded Sasch of some of the small towns in the area of Russia that she had come from.  There were regularly laid out streets. The streets near the edge of town were lined with houses, and most of those houses had one or two trees in front of them, providing shade during the heat of the summer.  But there appeared to be one larger street that bisected the area in half.  Sasch guessed that it would end perpendicular to the river.  Being an apparent main thoroughfare, made it a great place to gather intel - if they could get close enough.

Like Henry had suggested, some curtains were drawn back in a few of the houses, and people watched the disparate trio.  At one house, a child rushed indoors.  oO  Can’t say I blame zhem… as a child if I saw a seven-foot insect valking down street, I vould probably hide too. Oo

Sasch waved to those who would look at her.  She wanted them to know they were friendly, but that was a bit of a hard sell.

This part of the city felt muted, but there was more noise coming from the direction of the main section of the city near the river.  The sleepy edge of the village, wanted to lull Sasch into complacency, but the next second, a door slammed close - far too fast to be casual.  And once again, she was incredibly alert to their surroundings.

Kreshkova:  Sounds like vork may be vinding down for zhe day nearer zhe river.

Tito/Naledi:  Response

Kreshkova:  Do you see anyzhing out of zhe ordinary?  Or iz zhere anyzhing on your tricoder?

Tito/Naledi: Reponse
