(( USS Magni, The Tangle ))
The Tangle was a mysterious place, which is why Starfleet set up an expedition on a planet in the VX-LON system. Little was known about the planet or system, and less was understood about the Tangle. Astrophysicists across the Federation were clamoring to find out more about the unique space. A group of scientists had been set to learn what they could about the area, but an illness and disappearances plagued the expedition. The USS Thor was called on to respond to an emergency beacon from the outpost.
This time, Divya was the first to arrive in Shuttlebay and rushed to the pilot's seat. The last mission taught her that Commander DeVeau would not fight her for the privilege, but she didn't know Lieutenant Caras and was not taking any chances. She had powered up the shuttle and was in the middle of a pre-flight checklist when the others arrived. She punched in the ordinance to the outpost and glided the shuttle off the ship smoothly. There would be no fancy maneuvers with DeVeau on board, but the act of flying was still relaxing. Fortunately, the trip had been short and the weather was good, so they arrived without incident. It gave them time to discuss what they might find.
Tam: Thirty scientists and a light detachment of security personnel built the outpost. The briefing lacked details on what is being studied. With so many scientists, I’m assuming there are a variety of things being researched and tested.
DeVeau/Carras: Response
Tam: Commander, we are about to land. Now is the time to cover your eyes.
DeVeau/Carras: Response
Divya laughed to herself. She didn't want to poke the phobia, but could not help being amused that someone could live in space and have such an aversion to small crafts. She landed the long-range shuttle at the edge of the outpost.
(( Outpost – VX-LON-3 – The Tangle ))
The shuttle doors opened to a thick layer of dark clouds looming over the horizon. The swirling mass had a beauty to it, but Divya was glad to be on the ground before the storm hit. The outpost was small, and there were fewer people visible than she expected. The combination of illness and disappearances was evident. While everything seemed tidy enough, the pathways had not been cleared of debris from the last storm. It was a small detail, but it was not something she had seen in any Starfleet run group. The wind blew leaves across the path and over the small buildings. It was not a good sign that no one was there to greet them.
Tam: Well, this is dark and ominous.
DeVeau/Carras: Response
Tam: Shall we find someone who is not ill to show us around?
DeVeau/Carras: Response
