((Medical Inventory Overflow Room, Main Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Thor))
The containers on the shelves were mostly in order, but some had lids that were halfway on, and some were missing the lids altogether. Containers were stacked on the floor. Divya could not tell if they all had a place on the shelves, but were not stored properly, or if there were more supplies than the space could accommodate.
It all made Divya twitch. They were on a ship. Ships dodged torpedoes. What would the medical staff do in an emergency if half their supplies were scattered across the floor? Wait in line for the replicator? She was happy Taj'el was here. While she rejected the idea that all conversations required an agenda, she firmly believed that all storage rooms required far greater organization than this one had. She had seen much worse, but she had a suspicion that the inventory logs would prove
The Vulcan watched the Chief, and Divya suspected that they already had a plan but were waiting to see how the higher-ranking officer would handle the situation before speaking. It was wise, but Divya had a firm opinion about who should be in charge of this task.
Nera: So, this is a copy of our current overflow. If everyone’s been making notes as they should have been, then what’s on this list is what we’ll find here.
oO Oh dear, he is in for a rude awakening. Oo
The good doctor sent them the active inventory list to review.
Taj’el: This appears to be extensive… and poorly organized. When was the last full inventory conducted?
Her trusty PADD gave her information that she understood but was not happy about.
Tam: Oh my. It appears the last full inventory was done just before the ship's official launch. Several attempts have been made to conduct an inventory since then, but were interrupted by ship-wide events and missions.
Nera: There’s more in here than there should be. The last count must have been off.
Taj’el: We should document any discrepancies, both missing and incorrect entries. Additionally, we need to identify who conducted the last inventory, as unaccounted medical equipment could present a significant safety risk.
That was overkill, but the attention to detail helped Divya relax. Since this was going to take a good deal of time, she decided to look for the music she had teased Taj'el with.
Tam: Since we will be here awhile, let's get started with whatever Ay considers good music.
She pulled up his playlists and flipped through the ones that were accessed often.
Tam: Nera 2 Rocx tells me nothing about the music it contains. How can I tell what this one will make me feel?
Nera: I have no idea what you mean. Nera 2 Rocx is a great name for a playlist.
Taj’el: I do not understand how this playlist correlates to your emotional response. If I may ask, what emotional response is being referenced?
Tam: Good music gets into the head and stirs the soul. It can motivate a person, help them cry to let out their sorrow, allow them to let out their frustration, or break through a bad mood. The point of music is emotion.
Taj’el: If it is too difficult to explain, that is acceptable. I am simply trying to understand why both of your reactions changed, first regarding the inaccuracies in the form, and now in response to a playlist.
Her lips pursed in confusion. Perhaps her emotional response to music was not the same for Vulcans. Two of her closest friends were half-Vulcan but tended to lean into their other sides of their heritage when not on duty. She wasn't sure how to reframe her feelings for music, so she concentrated on the other part of the question. The embarrassment she had managed to sluff off crept back in, and she winced when she heard the high pitch in her response.
Tam: The form was simply a bust. Perhaps I failed to save my changes, but it doesn’t matter. It was meant to be a starting point, nothing more. I trust that you will be thorough in your documentation.
Nera: Response
Taj’el: I will not dwell on it further if you prefer.
Divya turned to her duties once more and sighed at the stack of supply containers on the floor. It was going to be a long day.
Tam: I'll start on this rack and then move to the containers in front of it.
Nera: Response
Divya did a quick survey of the top row and found they were not as bad off as she thought. The bottom row, however, was as bad as she thought. She decided that soft Spanish guitar would be nice background music while they found their rhythm. Once they were in the zone, she would move them to something more energetic. She might even get wild and try Nera 3 Rocx.
Taj’el: I’m finding multiple discrepancies.
Tam: As am I. The containers that were touched less frequently are consistently more in line with the documented inventory list. The more frequently accessed containers are a mess.
Nera: Response
The further down she went, the worse it got. When she finally reached the containers on the floor, she found that not a single thing was in its correct place. There was a container that had no record at all.
Tam: Doctors, was there some sort of an accident in here? Perhaps the ship was in a battle, and the boxes popped open during a maneuver? Was there no time, and were supplies shoved wherever there was an opening? Or space monkeys? Where space monkeys set loose in Sickbay?
Nera/Taj'el: Response
Tam: I'm just saying monkeys could explain this mess.
Nera/Taj'el: Response
Divya repacked several containers after meticulously documenting the supplies that they should have held and the supplies that were actually present. She was in the process of rearranging the rack to accommodate the loose containers when something caught her eye. Behind a container, sticking out of the rack was a triangle of bright red. She tugged on it and realized it was fabric. With both hands, she pulled out a pair of pants that had been shoved between the rack and the wall. They were covered in splashes of paint. Several different colors of paint speckled the fabric. Further examination revealed a shirt with a different festival paint pattern.
She held up the clothing and cleared her throat.
Tam: And just what medical purpose do these serve?
Nera/Taj'el: Response
