to USS Thor – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Nova Terra, Outskirts of Hudson))
Sasch had supplied them with a hand phaser and suggested they searched the local tavern. Tito added a few questions as they got ready to leave.
Tito: Do we have any specific leads to follow, or are we just searching for clues?
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Crick Pop Twinge Hiss… As the assigned intelligence officer, and one who’s missed so much recently, I am here to reverify the information we already have as well as gather additional data for Starfleet, and of course the USS Thor.
Kreshkova: Vell, ve know zhat a joint venture between zhe two vorlds - Nova Terra and New Gaia resulted in a subspace veapon being detonated. But neizher vorld is accepting responsibility for zhat. Ve know zhat zhere is at least two factions here on Nova Terra. Vone is a religious and xenophobic group. Zhey didn’t hurt Caras, but zhe did perform some sort of odd ritual over him vhen ve first arrived. Zhe ozher is a general who tried taking matters into his own hands and restraining us. Ve’ll need to valk circumspectly.
Tito: And how did we get that information?
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop… Unverified, I shall leave the explanation to you, lieutenant
Kreshkova: Vell, I lived much of it, and can verify it first hand. As for zhe subspace veapon, zhat information comes from zhe Captain himself. So I’d say everyzhing I’ve told you so far is verified. Zhis part is NOT verified however, ve are vorking on zhe operating assumption zhat someone is trying to bring zhese two vorlds back into var vizh each ozher. Bozh leaders deny any part in zhe firing. Bozh say zhat zhe veapon could not be fired vizhout approval from bozh. So eizher zhey are bozh lying, or zhere is a zhird party trying to subvert peace.
Tito nodded and took his tricorder, opening it.
Tito: I assume I can get some scans as we go?
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Hiss… I see no harm, if they object, it’ll only reveal more about them.
Kreshkova: Get us as many scans as you can, Tito. Let me know zhe moment anyzhing out of zhe ordinary comes up.
Tito nodded as he let the tricorder work their magic.
Tito: I certainly will.
Naledi took point and Tito stood slightly behind, keeping Sasch between them.
Naledi: Crick Snap Pop Hiss Tick Twinge… I hope you don’t mind? I am used to acting in the capacity of security officer, my instinct for taking the point clearly is still focused.
Kreshkova: Zhat is fine. But if ve find hostility toward you, I go first.
Tito smiled proudly. Sasch looked like a born leader.
Naledi: Crick snap pop twinge hiss… Lieutenants, is this liquid on my eye irregular? It’s been a long time since I’ve come planetside
Tito looked at Naledi, and then up. The sky was clear, so it wasn’t rain. He raised his tricorder.
Kreshkova: It is possible zhat it’s some kind of sap from vone of zhe trees. Maybe Tito can scan it for you, and see vhat it is. Zhough sap doesn't usually fall in a single drop.
He nodded and turned to Naledi.
Tito: Fascinating… It's moist from those leaves. That tree likely secretes them… I need a thorough scan for Commander DeVeau.
That was something that DeVeau would never forgive him, not scanning an interesting tree.
Kreshkova: Iz zhat somezhing ve should be concerned about, Lieutenant?
Tito looked at Naledi and then the tree, before turning to their Xindi crewmate.
Tito: Not unless you're allergic to it Lieutenant Naledi. Are you feeling anything different?
Naledi: Response
With that settled they kept on moving, reaching to the outskirts of a small town. They followed the large street. Tito kept scanning, but there wasn’t anything out of the ordinary.
At least yet.
There wasn’t exactly a warm welcome, but there was no open hostility either.
Kreshkova: Sounds like vork may be vinding down for zhe day nearer zhe river.
Tito: Yes it does.
Naledi: Response
Kreshkova: Do you see anyzhing out of zhe ordinary? Or iz zhere anyzhing on your tricoder?
Tito shook his head, he widened the scanning range, trying to find the biggest agglomeration of people
Tito: Nothing. We are in a normal town. It feels almost like Earth.
Naledi: Response
Tito pointed to the end of the road.
Tito: I see there’s a larger crowd in that building. On the corner of the next block.
Kreshkova/Naledi: Response
Tito: Maybe it’s the Tavern?
Kreshkova/Naledi: Response
Tito raised his eyes to the quiet street and the few locals on it as they walked.
The turning of heads and whispering was expected, but he thought he would offer his suggestion before they reached the place.
Tito: I recommend I go inside it first. I hope you understand Lieutenant Naledi.
He hoped that Sasch didn’t insist on going her first. After all she was the team leader as he was the expandable Blue Shirt.
Kreshkova/Naledi: Response
