T’Fearne: How is your leg feeling now? If you are swimming like a fish, then it must be much better. Where did you learn to swim? Was it while you were growing up on Betazed?
Nemes: ::smiling broadly at T’Fearne:: Swimming like a fish? I hope you mean a majestic dolphin and not a stranded sardine.
T’Farne was glad to see Sybil so free of movement, but she wasn’t sure what a dolphin or a sardine was.
T’Fearne blinked, puzzled for a moment.
oO Is a sardine the one with tentacles? Oo
Nemes: My leg’s fine again. ::She looked at her own leg, from whose severe injury not even a small scar could be recognised now:: My family has a house in the south of Dalar. There is a beautiful lake nearby. I learnt to swim there. And the sea wasn't that far away either. We spent a lot of our holidays there.
T’Fearne: Ah, naturally I’ve passed through the main spaceport at 1Dalaria on my way off-world, and I worked security during the biennial trade conference there before I applied to the Academy. But other than that, I’ve never really spent much time on the continent. Dalar is a beautiful continent, from what I’ve seen from a shuttle flyover.
Nemes: Really? Where on Betazed did you grow up?
T’Fearne: Most of my childhood memories are from our family villa on the coast of 3Hedeya, or from living on one of the islands in the 4Hedayan Archipelago. That’s where I learned to swim.:: soft smile growing:: It wasn’t easy at first—I have denser bones than most—but I’ve got a larger lung capacity, so that helps.
Nemes: I’ve been there with my family a few times. :::beat, then slightly snorting as she laughed:: Sort of funny... I mean that we might have seen each other before.
T’Fearne::: Nodding thoughtfully:: The island towns and villages of the Hedayan Archipelago are a popular holiday destination at certain times of the year, though they can be a sort of tourist traps. Perhaps we did swim in the same waters once. And now... we sail the stars together. It feels fitting, don’t you think?
Nemes: Response
T’Fearne glanced down at herself, unclipping the Akai sticks from her back and setting them, along with her PADD and towel, at the edge of the pool. Standing she toed off her soft boots, standing in her green exercise pants and matching top. A wry smile tugged at her lips as she caught Sybil’s eye. She responded to the questioning look from the Human.
T’Fearne: I’m getting back in the water to swim with you, :: jesting:: For old times sake.
oO And not letting fear hold me Oo
She stepped to the edge of the pool, the surface rough under the bare toes. She took a deep breath and dove smoothly into the water, her body arcing through the air behind Sybil. The cool, synthetic water closed over her head, and for a brief moment, she allowed herself to drift, reassured by the knowledge that this was nothing like the cold, ancient streams beneath B’Hala. She rolled through the water, then surfaced with a swift motion, sending droplets flying from her face and hair. She swam strongly over to the side of the pool by Sybil.
T’Fearne: That is better. :: Whipping synthetic water from her eyelashes:: So, what do your parents do?
Nemes: Response
T’Fearne::: nodding:: My mother is a botanical scientist who is semi-retired and teaches at the university. My father is an art therapist with a private studio in Hedaya. They’ve also worked as mediators from time to time for the House Assembly, the trade council or other private clients who contract them for their services. That was actually how they met, on opposite sides of a negotiation table. They often collaborate on projects, and when I was younger, I’d accompany them during their off-world assignments. It made for an interesting childhood.
Nemes: Response
T’Fearne: So, you grow up living on a tropical world. Still rebuilding from the occupation. What made you choose to join Starfleet over some other organisation?
