It had taken Rox a few minutes to stop laughing.  Not because the gas was still present but because the whole situation was so absurd.  After finally rolling onto her stomach and bringing herself to her feet, she helped secure all the youngsters.  After that she'd gone to get a drink and check the other wards.  Everyone was more than busy and she provided what support she could.  Eventually it had occurred to her that she ought to check back in with La Croix and Wyla.  She was not sure where they were, but she seemed to hear a grating sound and assumed it must be La Croix.  She headed toward the sound and was just outside Ward C.

De La Croix: Burns...contusions...blunt force trauma...oh yes and enough radiation exposure to brighten a small star.  Yes you clearly don't need any help from me.  Just do me a favor and try not to leave too many stains on the biobed when you die or someone will have to clean it up.  A perfect job for Nurse Queen, in point of fact.  Now where has that addled strumpet wandered off to now....

Rox's hands balled up into tight fists and her nails sank deep into her palms.  If she went in fast enough she could likely land a punch in the woman's solar plexus before La Croix could respond, that would send her staggering.  Equally appealing was the idea of aiming for her nose.  Even if she failed to break it, which seemed unlikely, there would be blood and that was certainly an entertaining vision.  The question of course was how much trouble would she get in.  La Croix was not Starfleet, but rather a civilian, so she was not technically being insubordinate or assaulting an officer.  The question was would Shortrith and Kel see it that way.   La Croix's contemptible behavior was well documented, but so was Kel's high standard for professionalism. In short, she would be in trouble, probably lots.

oO Well this strumpet is going to strump right out of here. Oo

Rox turned and headed away from Ward C.  There was plenty to do in the other wards, and until she was officially called there was no reason to go into a hostile work environment.   She turned, took several deep breaths, and walked away from the ward.
