(( Sickbay - Lower Promenade, DS9 ))
Rapidly approaching the conclusion of Gila’s volunteering at DS9, she would repeatedly find her attention slipping during work hours. The shuttle that was slated to bring her and Vai-net to the Mizar System would soon arrive on the station, and the closer she got to that actual stardate, the more uneasy Gila felt. Thanks to the hustle and bustle of acting as a temporary Sickbay for one-and-a-half Starship, she’d been able to ignore that very real threat looming - finding out why her sister had called her back home at all - and instead just focus on what was comfortable and familiar…
Now, it took a proper and concentrated effort for her to focus on her tasks; a state of operations that she, and the CMOs whose staff she was currently reinforcing, was undoubtedly unsatisfied with. Gila sighed, nodding with determination. No more anxious meandering.
Back to work.
T’Fearne: =/\= Ensign T’Fearne to Lieutenant Sadar. =/\=
oO Or not Oo
The voice was unfamiliar though, and it caused Gila to pause momentarily before activating her combadge. Since first starting her duties with the Ronin crew, she felt fairly certain she’d managed to make the acquaintance of most of them, so whenever she encountered a new voice, she always had to take a bit of a pause to ensure she hadn’t accidentally forgotten someone.
An entire Ship’s worth of crew was a lot of people to meet and work alongside in such a condensed time period, after all.
Sadar: Ensign T’Fearne? ::considers as she taps her commbadge:: =/\= Doctor Sadar here?
T’Fearne: =/\= As far as I am aware, Sir, we have not met before. I am a security officer assigned to the Ronin. I’m completing some administrative duties, including updating Starfleet personnel files. ::brief pause:: It appears your file requires standard security recertification. =/\=
Listening to the inflections of the Ensign, as well as considering her name, Gila presumed this Ensign was a Vulcan, which instantly made her feel a bit more at ease with this sudden communication, and she appreciated that the Ensign had put her mind at ease by confirming that they had - in fact - never met before.
In terms of the actual contents of the call, though, Gila felt apprehensive. If there was one thing that frustrated her, it was improperly filed PADDwork.
Sadar: =/\= O-Oh. Uhh, that’s odd... ::considers:: That didn’t happen when I transferred to the Kitty Hawk. oO I think Oo I-It’s not a fault in the system, is it? =/\=
T’Fearne: =/\= Unfortunately, it’s a mandatory process on my system. If you could meet me at the station security office after your shift, I can ask you a few questions and get the PADD work sorted for you. =/\=
A mandatory process? Perhaps it was just an extra precaution that came with serving in a warzone. While the Borderlands - her home of operations with the crew of the Artemis - wasn’t exactly a calm area of space, it was nothing compared to the Alpha Isles, and Gila had to presume that working with security in such an area would require quite a few layers of extra red tape, compared to the rest of the Federation.
At least it wasn’t an issue so pressing that the Ensign required her to drop everything and join her right that instant.
Sadar: =/\= Of course, Ensign, that won’t be a problem. I’ll stop by in a few hours. =/\=
T’Fearne: =/\= Thank you, Sir. I look forward to meeting you. =/\=
As the commline died, Gila found herself ambiguously sharing Ensign T’Fearne’s opinion. While meeting a new colleague was always an interesting event - and often quite unlike what Gila expected - the idea of her files being faulty?
... She hoped she wouldn’t inadvertently get an Operations Ensign airlocked back home once Captain MacKenzie learned of this.
(( Station Security Office, Promenade, DS9 ))
The security office, much like Sickbay, was a blend of Cardassian architecture and Federation functionality. In the time since Gila had first arrived and had gotten accustomed to the numerous crewmembers of both the Ronin and the Khitomer milling about, she’d started to feel reconciled with the odd combination. At this moment in time, she was certain she’d feel it twice as odd if all the Federation elements were suddenly removed from DS9. So, when Gila entered the security office few minutes after the conclusion of her shift in Sickbay, she barely stopped to consider the dichotomy between the gold-clad security officer and the muted Cardassian color scheme in the background.
Sadar: Hello Ensign. Lieutenant Gila Sadar. You called me here regarding some security issues with my transfer files?
The Vulcan Ensign who greeted her was, as Vulcans often were, difficult to read. She was tall, stately and very professional in her mannerisms, and that was about as Gila expected of her.
T’Fearne: Yes, Lieutenant. Thank you for coming on such short notice. :: unsure of an appropriate Mizarian greeting gesture, she merely inclined her head in greeting:: Please, have a seat. :: gestures to a chair across from her:: Do you have any questions for me before we formally begin?
Gila took the seat indicated, already shaking her head before she’d fully touched down onto the firm chair.
Sadar: Thank you. And no, uhh, no questions. I, uhh, I-I’m so sorry about this, it’s not like the Artemis to submit faulty PADDwork.
T’Fearne: Response
Sadar: Of course, uhh... M-My file is an open book.
T’Fearne: Response
Whatever questions she’d expected the Vulcanoid to lead with, it had not been regarding the Captain who’d first recommended her for the Academy. Recalling the state of Captain Mata after Frontier Day was not a happy memory - thankfully he was now out of the hospital again - but she attempted to push that memory away as she indulged the Ensign’s query.
Sadar: Captain Jaume Mata of the USS Indefatigable. He was doing a supply run to the Federation colony on Mizar IV, where I was staying, and, uhh... I-I was able to assist him with an incident with a collapsed mine.
