Niac:  So what's your poison, Mr. Morrow?  See anything in particular that catches your eye?

Morrow: While I produce beer, bourbon is where it’s at, and I’m working on gear for that as well. But that’s a project for another time.

Smiling, Karrod reached in, digging for one dusty bottle in particular he'd gotten from a rare spirits vendor back on Deep Space 224 during his tour on the Excalibur.  He could hear glass, and things like glass, clinking against one another as he moved aside bottles of Saurian brandy and Bajoran springwine, finally feeling the rough cord wrapped bottle scraping against his hand.  When he managed to draw it out the liquid within glimmered faintly, a dark shimmering amber that seemed to capture and redouble the light that passed through it.

Niac: Ah there we are...hope you don't have anything important to do tomorrow.

Morrow: So what do we have here? ::he examined his glass::

He chuckled as he dusted off the top of the bottle, breaking the black wax seal with a thumb before popping off the roughhewn stopper.

Niac: This, Mr. Morrow, is called 'Tears of the Kressari'...one of only two bottles I've ever been able to put my hands on.  Legend goes it's aged in real wood barrels that spend a minimum of a century in orbit of their world...although I've always wondered if that was just good marketing.

The aroma that began seeping from the open bottle, finally exposed to the ships air after quite a few centuries, told Karrod more than a tricorder would've.

Morrow: You know that’s banned in three quadrants, right? ::he smirked::

Karrod smirked and poured a dram for each of them into the provided glasses, remembering Niac's last deliciously painful experience with the beverage nearly a century earlier.

Niac: For good reason...the Kressari are incredibly talented bioengineers and botanists...it's how one of Niac's former hosts met one.  Armo was at an exobotany conference and, well...lets just say it was a memorable evening for her...and a memorable morning for very different reasons.  She swore to never touch the stuff again...but she never forgot how it tasted.

Karrod smiled warmly as he passed the glass over to Mr. Morrow, rolling the beverage around in his like a brandy so it could breathe a bit.  Armo had been quiet and reserved for most of her life but every now and then she'd set aside her academic pursuits for a night or a few days, content to live fully in the moment without distraction.  Karrod blushed a bit as some of those fond memories, and the sensations associated with them, floated to the surface of his mind.

Morrow: I’m joking, seriously though, I do have an in with the FCA, who helped us out. Thankfully, it didn’t escalate into a firefight. I had to rerecord my logs several times, as it was a bit complicated.

Karrod shook his head and returned his attention to the present with a sheepish smile.

Niac:  Sorry Mr. Morrow, I was lost taking something of a stroll...or perhaps a stumble...down memory lane.  And yes, I am glad things didn't escalate further...Mr. Kel's gambit and your very devious use of weaponized litigation made for an unorthodox solution but it just goes to prove an old Terran saying...'if it looks stupid and it works...it's not stupid.'

He raised a glass to the man and smiled.

Morrow:  Response

The glasses clinked together and they drank, the incredible heat and floral bouquet of the beverage somehow deftly balanced right on the edge of palatability.  It was exactly as Armo remembered.  He felt the rush of warmth running down his throat and into his gut a moment later and remembered to voice a small warning with a smile.

Niac:  If we have more than one or two of those we'll need to beam ourselves to sickbay.  The Captain and the ships JAG officer can't be seen shambling through the hallways...I'm sure you can still quote the relevant regulation.

Morrow:  Response

He could feel the warmth suffusing his entire body as he leaned against the storage crate with a sigh, bringing the glass to his nose and taking a deep pleasant breath of the spicy fragrance.

Niac:  I understand Nurse Queen and Dr. De La Croix have already debased themselves quite comprehensively this leave, probably for the best that we don't reinforce the idea.  For the good of the ship, of course.

Morrow:  Response

He chuckled as he took another small sip, the burn quickly transmuting to pleasure on the way down.

Niac:  On that subject, how have you been finding your time aboard the Ronin?  I know this posting wasn't exactly your idea and I've read enough personnel files to know when someone has fun afoul of the higher ups.  If you don't mind me asking, what happened?  Run the table on a few Admirals at their weekly dom jot game?

Morrow:  Response
