Singh: Saali kutti....what could have done that?!

The runabout tumbled dead in space, a hole several meters in diameter punched cleanly through one side of the hull and, to her horror, out the adjacent side.  It wasn't so much the damage that was shocking, it was how cleanly it had excised a piece of the hull.  There was no marring, no rent in the hull plating that the damage from a conventional weapon would create.  This was something far worse.

Knight:  That was courtesy of a Sencha weapon. ::he crossed his arms:: It’s the only thing that would make a hole that size, and all readings I’m getting back say it’s drenched in Sencha radiation. But that still doesn’t explain the comm’s we got from the Shinano….

Gunny Knight had all but read her mind and she found herself once again appreciating that the Quartermaster had come the Ronin's way.  He was quickly proving himself an indispensable addition to the crew and a capable extension of Ishani's ability to get things done.

Singh: Automated message, perhaps?  Disaster beacon?  The flight crew could've survived the decompression but there's no way anything organic would've tolerated that much radiation.

She keyed the comms and called to the circling Valkyries and S&R runabout, orbiting a few kilometers further out until they were called.

Singh:  =/\= Ronin to Valkyrie 1-1, reading your sensor telemetry. Be advised, damage is consistent with a Sencha wave based weapon discharge, type unknown.  Remain on high alert.  Wait one.  =/\=

She watched as Knight tapped away at the controls and the hologlobe tightened in, an overlay of tactical data from several previous Ronin engagements streaming alongside their images of the fatally wounded Shinano.

Knight: If I’ve done my homework, this has to be a Lattice Alliance work. I know they had a super weapon that the Ronin ultimately took care of. Could they have made it on a smaller scale? I know they’ve been quite recently.

Ishani winced, a small flare of phantom pain in her side as footage from the Siege of Thirty Three and the firing of the Alliance's superweapon that had nearly destroyed the Ronin, the Khitomer and the station itself.  She had heard scuttlebutt that subspace all around the station continued to show signs of damage even now, so titanic had been the release of energy.

Singh: It is possible whoever fired that weapon wasn't part of the Alliance from this timeline, Gunny.  What if the Shinano stumbled into that temporal anomaly and came out wherever the doomed Kurosawa was running from.  They could've been set upon before they had any chance of escape.

Knight: Hang with me here, Major.:: he keyed open the comm system to all fighters:: =/\= Valkyrie 1-1, Ronin actual, are there any other craft in sight? =/\=

The comm crackled and Gra'vel's synthesized voice broke through the haze of interference.

Gra’vel: =/\= Scuttles shows no contacts on sensors but range is very limited near this anomaly.  Advise S&R bird tractors wreckage clear and back to Ronin for analysis while Valkyries provide high guard. =/\=

Ishani looked between the hologlobe and the Gunny, considering for only a moment.  She keyed the comm once again.

Singh: =/\= Confirmed Scuttles, advise S&R to rig for tow.  Maintain maximum possible distance from the anomaly, last we need is another downed bird. =/\=  Gunny, advise the flight deck to establish a class seven isolation field, full decontamination protocol.  If we drop that hulk on the deck without it we'll flood the whole bay with Sencha radiation.

Knight:  Response

Gra'vel:  =/\= Scuttles copies all, out. =/\=

Her disquiet at the situation only intensified as the wing maneuvered towards the tumbling Shinano, only too aware of how vulnerable they were with their sensors occluded and space itself a mire of anomalies.

Singh:  Gunny, there is very little else we can do from here...but I'll be damned if I have to sit on my hands while more of our people die.  Where's the Captain or the XO?  We need to regroup and come up with a new plan for securing this area.  Our small craft are too vulnerable to be operated safely in these conditions.

Knight:  Response

Ishani was certain her eyes widened as she digested the news.

Singh:  They did what?

Knight:  Response
