((‘Disco Inferno’ Roller Arena, A few minutes later))

Turkana IV was a holding zone for all things that were long forgotten on earth.  Diesel engines, vulcanized rubber tires for hauling vehicles and "light rock".  Everything stale and dated found its way there somehow and so it was that Rox had actually spent copious amounts of time on a roller rink.  She had even briefly been part of a derby team until she had "accidently" clotheslined a referee.  He had been staring at her in a way she felt offensive, but the commission did not see it that way.  For the moment Rox was whirling around the rink enjoying the feeling and keeping her arms behind her back to avoid any incidents.

It had been rather humorous to watch the rest of the crew.  Commander Raga seemed quite agile, but Captain Niac seemed to be seconds away from a spill at all times. Even when standing still.  V'Len had not even bothered to don skates.  He was clearly worried about his pretty antennae.  As she was about to start another lap when Niac began speaking.  Motion and sound in the room ceased and Rox leaned against one of the walls.

Niac:  It’s a pleasure to see you all together once again.  I believe we owe the staff of The Farm our compliments, it certainly seems to have lived up to its restorative reputation.  Up until I put these ridiculous roller-wheels on, I was the most relaxed I’d been in months.

Rox smiled as she watched Karrod seemed to roll backward from the podium.  An obvious amateur.

Niac:  In the interests of conducting our business here today before I need to avail myself of medical care, I’ll be as brief as reasonably possible considering the broad scope of your recent accomplishments.  Because of you…because of your steady nerve in the face of a horrific attack…because of your focus under pressure…because of your dedication to one another…the embers of a grave threat to the Federation were extinguished before they could ignite an inferno.  You have once again stymied the plans of a ruthless organization and shown them that Starfleet stands firm against terror for profit, against opportunistic brutality, and against anything that would reduce life to an expendable asset.

At the mention of medical care, Rox wrinkled her nose.  She was here for fun, Karrod had better now turn it into work.  She'd dressed casually in a pair of jeans and flannel.  She had a tank top under the flannel in case things got exciting.  She also had a large red bow on the top of her head.

Niac:  To that end, each member of this crew is receiving a Silver Lifesaving Ribbon for your efforts to save our brothers and sisters from the Compass Rose.  Let it be a reminder to you of the souls you were able to make safe…and all those others who will forever remain on patrol in the Kappa 214 system.  In addition, based on my discussions with Starfleet Medical and owing to the incredibly unusual nature of the information we were able to uncover during the course of our mission, the whole crew will be receiving the Scientific Discovery Ribbon.  You demonstrated once again that knowledge is the ultimate power and, in this case, used it to neutralize an insidious threat.  Lastly and with the knowledge that each and every one of you suffered a level of exposure to a weapon that was, until very recently, invariably deadly…each member of this crew is awarded yet another purple heart to add to their ever growing collection.  I believe several people have earned enough to redeem them for prizes, which are available in a variety of colors at a small standoff in the corner of this facility.

Rox heard several chuckles and she smiled happily knowing she could add more ribbons to her collection. She had mounted them on a single plastic square so that the whole thing could be pinned to her uniform if the occasion called for it.

Niac:  While everyone contributed greatly to the outcome of our mission, there are a few officers among us who distinguished themselves in the performance of their duties under extraordinary duress.  Lt. Commanders Quentin Beck and V’Len Kel, Lieutenant Alyndra Syrex and Lieutenant Junior Grade Roxanne Queen, please step…or roll…forward.

Rox rolled forward, passing V'Len who was walking.

Rox: ::whispering:: Coward!

Kel: ::hissing back:: Better safe than sorry.

Syrex: You rang.

Kel:  Here sir.

Rox spun around before Niac throwing up her hands.

Rox:  Ta Da!

Beck:  Response

Niac:  For your extraordinary work in developing a treatment for this illness and protecting all of us…and the larger Federation…from the threat it represented, it is my sincere pleasure to award you the Medical Science Ribbon.  Congratulations and, on behalf of everyone here, thank you.  We would not be here today without your efforts.

Syrex: Thank you sir.

Kel: Thank you sir.

Rox:  Good call Cap'n.  As ever you are the best.

Beck:  Response

Niac:  While our medical personnel were distinguishing themselves, let us remember that they did not crack this problem alone.  Lieutenant Commander Marty Tucker, Lieutenant Junior Grade Tess Evinrude…front and center.

Rox began to roll back to the edge or the rink, but gave Marty a smile and a wink as he walked past.  She needed to see him later.

The rest of the ceremony was fairly uneventful.  Rox tried her best to pay attention but eventually she had to go get a hot dog.  Fortunately she was not alone.  Alyndra was ordering a Churo and others were also getting some snacks as well.  At long last Niac ceased his rambling speech.

Niac:  With our business concluded I’ve been told to inform you that something called ‘free skate’ begins in a few minutes and…

There was a loud thud and Rox noticed Karrod had disappeared from behind the podium.  His voice was still present.

Niac:....dismissed.

Rox rolled over to her bag and pulled out a small box. It was green and was perhaps only 6 inches long and perhaps 2 inches tall.  Scanning the crowd, she found Marty and buzzed over to him keeping the box hidden.  She stopped quickly and had to push the red bow further back on her head.

Rox:  Hello! I got you a present.

Tucker: Response

She gave him a sly look.

Rox: Reprobate.  ::pulling the box from behind her:: It's this.

Tucker: Response

Opening the package Marty revealed a tarnished silver wrench and a very large rusted bolt.

Rox:  This is the remnants of my one and foray into starship engineering.  I offered to help a freighter Captain purge his exhaust manifold.  Well I went to take the cowling off and the whole nacelle dropped off the ship.  Needless to say I booked it and never looked back.

Tucker: Response

Rox:  Maybe 12?  I changed the oil in my uncle's hauler so I figured, how different can it be?

Tucker: Response
