((OOC - will move to the bridge in my next sim))

((Life Sciences Lab, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

Sciences on the Ronin typically focused on how to deflect weapons, deal with radiation, stop genetically modified plagues and disable killer robots.  It was rare that they had a purely scientific mission like this one.  A mysterious cosmozoan life form to make contact with was an amazing opportunity.  V'Len did not want to let the opportunity go to waste.  V'Len brought up the logs from his very first mission and send them over to the station near Frasil and Lyrik.

Kel: During my first mission on the USS Thor I was able to communicate with a cosmozoan life form by converting it's magnetic oscillations into a holographic construct via the bioneural gel packs.  ::turning to Frasil and Lyrik:: I'd like you to set up a the same sort of collection mechanism. It's a long shot, but at least it's a start.

Wells: Try not to set anything on fire this time.

Then she turned back to their guest.

Wells: Have you had any encounters with cosmozoan or other large space phenomena, Lt. Velis?

Velis: Response

The Saurian and the Bollian got to work.  V'Len turned his attention back to Rhodium and Serin, but was interrupted.

Evinrude: =/\= Evinrude to Commander Kel. Have a moment? =/\=

Kel:  =/\= Kel here Lieutenant.  How can I help? =/\=

Evinrude: =/\=Thank you, sir. I am aware that we made good speed to the rendezvous with the USS Goodall. Operations work team reports are coming in, and we're looking ship-shape and ready.

Kel:  =/\=That's excellent news. The ship will need to be in good shape for this mission.   =/\=

Evinrude: =/\= Well, that's my question. Where are we needed for the, ah, mission at hand? If, that is, I'm authorized to know. ::He added genuinely, aware of the air of secrecy.::

V'Len considered.  They were all headed to the same place and Niac had not ordered him or any of the other command staff not to talk about it.  He sent the coordinates to Evinrude.

Kel:  =/\= We're heading for a contact with a large ::beat:: very large life form.  I'm having my people make some slight modifications to a few of our sensors.  Also make sure our defensive systems are ready.  There's a chance we're not the only ones who'd like to meet this creature. =/\=

Wells: Computer. Extrapolate the 360 details of this scan. Try to clean up the interference, strip out the background radiation and the starfield. Enhance for me, cherie.

V'Len turned back to see how Wells and Velis who were working on the image of the creature.  V'Len wondered if there was any possibility of a spectrographic analysis.

Wells: Anything additional data you have to clear it up?

Velis: Response

The image shifted slightly and now there seemed to be a more defined gray blob, it appeared they might be some kind of fins or folds on the surface.

Wells: ::fascinated:: Now this is interesting. What do you make of these two dorsal points coming from the taper? Does it remind you of anything?

Velis: Response

V'Len opened his mouth to speak, but before he could his comm badge chirped to life once more.

Beck: =/\= Beck to Kel. Just finished putting together my shortlist, and it's very short. Doctor Shortrith and I will be at your disposal. =/\=

Kel: =/\= Excellent =/\=

Now all he had to do was think of something for them to do.  The medical staff was used to dealing with injured and potentially injured parties.  Research was a novelty.

Kel: =/\= What are you doing presently? =/\=

Beck: =/\= I intended to do some investigation and research here in the Xenobiology lab for the short term, but if you've got a better idea, I'm all ears. =/\=

Shortrith: =/\= Anything we can do help from here? =/\=

V'Len thought and then snapped his fingers.

Kel: =/\= I'm trying to put recreate a process from the Thor. I used bioneural gel packs to process magnetic data from a cosmozoan and turn it into a holographic representation.  What do you think Dr. Beck?  Can we do that here? =/\=

V'Len knew that Quinten was interested and proficient with holographic technology.

Beck: =/\= Response =/\=

Shortrith: =/\= I'm not entirely sure. Has anything come through since the initial photo? =/\=

Kel: =/\= I'll send you my notes from the Thor.  Maybe in addition to magnetic fluctuation we can do EM emissions, color fluctuations and any other parameters that could be communications. =/\=

Beck: =/\= Response =/\=

Shortrith: =/\= Possibly? It depends on what the entity does next. =/\=

Kel: =/\= See what you can do.  Kel out. =/\=

Beck: =/\= Response =/\=

V'Len turned back to Wells and Velis with a sigh.

Wells: Does this remind you of anything, chèrie?

Kel: ::nodding his head to one side:: Blue whale?

Velis: Response

Wells: ::nodding:: The first time I saw this shape was France, Sol III, more than four-hundred years ago. It was in the hands of my grand-mère. She liked to twist her own yarn for knitting and she could crochet the most elaborate and beautiful lace…::making a twisting motion with her hands:: It's a Spindle. Or more scientifically a Fusilform. The spindle shapes occur in nature and in manufacturing often. Sperm, seeds, nuts, leaves, nests, fish and amphibians. A spindle cell is often found in tumorous tissue, both benign and malignant.

V'Len chuckled.  Rhodium didn't look like she was 400 years old.  In fact V'Len would not have guessed she was much older than he appeared, perhaps in her 40s or 50s?  That was El-Aurians for you.

Kel:  What I'm hearing is that this could be just as easily a shark as a whale.

Velis: Response

Wells: ::stretching both arms above her head, before resting her hands on her hips:: Well, if it is similar to a giant single celled organism, I do hope it’s not a cancerous cell. Who knows what sort of offensive or defensive capabilities it might possess at this scale.

V'Len did not much like the idea of being attacked by the giant creature.

Kel: All the more reason to find a way to communicate with the creature.

Velis: Response

V'Len began activating the various sensor systems they could access from the lab.

Kel: We've got a few hours to work, lets pull in as much information as we can.

Velis/Wells: Response

Kel: Let's hope neither the Lattice Alliance or the Consortium has taken any notice of this beast.

Velis/Wells: Response

Kel: Let's just say they're not the easiest people to deal with.

[End scene for Kel]
