((Security Complex, CSO Office, Deck 11, USS Ronin))
The never ending duty rosters and security rotations was the one part of the job that Jack was not all that fond of. Of course he'd never voice that aloud as it came with all department head positions and was a key function to ensuring the day to day operations of the Ronin. He stared at the wall mounted display in his office as he moved names to different duty rotations and tried to keep his officers in different areas on different shifts so that they did not develop patrol habits for certain sections of the ship. He liked to keep everyone on their toes and of course meant changing up the schedules from time to time.
The CSO's office door was almost always open but given the frequent movement of security in and out of the Security Complex, when Jack was lost in rosters he had a warning light programmed on his PADD to alert him if anyone entered the office and he did not notice immediately. That very light blinked up at Jack as he tried to decide the final Delta shift rotation. He glanced up from his PADD and to the office doorway. A young officer stood in the entryway. Gold uniform and duffle in hand.
Ryen: Ensign Jace Ryen, reporting for duty, sir.
Jack turned and lowered his PADD to his side as the junior officer kept a calm and steady voice. Jack immediately noted that this was a practiced tone of someone accustomed to maintaining composure, of course the Ensigns service records indicated his heritage as Human and Vulcan so that did not surprise Jack at all.
Kessler: ::stepping towards Ryen:: Welcome to the Ronin Ensign, I'm Jack Kessler you Security Chief.
Jack stretched out his hand to shake the Ensigns and gave the young officer a broad smile. It felt like so many years ago that he had first reported to his first assignment aboard the USS Thor. The thought of that first assignment and the mission results still made his skin crawl every time he thought about it. Too many died on that mission and the loss of the Thor had been devastating but there had been nothing the crew could have done to stop the tragedy from unfolding the way it had.
Ryen: response
Kessler: I see in your file that you are from Montana. Beautiful country. I've done a lot of hiking and camping throughout Montana.
Ryen: response
Jack motioned for the young officer to drop his duffle on the small couch that sat in his office.
Kessler: I read in your academy record that you asked for Security and Intelligence duty specifically. What draws your attention to those fields?
Ryen: response
Kessler: I can understand that. ::gesturing to the door:: Let me show you around the Security complex, You can leave your duffle here in the office.
Jack placed his PADD on his desk and then stepped out into the complex and started a slow and deliberate circle through the complex so that his new officer could get a feel for what he was going to be working on.
Ryen: response
Kessler: On the Ronin, the Security complex houses our ship-wide monitoring facility, armory, brig, a briefing room, a holo-training suite and of course our weapons lockers. My office as well as the Strategic Operations Officer's office is within the complex as well.
As if on cue, the doors from the Weapons locker slid open and one of the Ronin's other security team stepped out. Jack was pleased to see T'Fearne and immediately altered his direction to step towards her.
Kessler: Lieutenant T'Fearne, I'd like to introduce you to our newest team member ::turning and gesturing to Ryen:: this is Ensign Jace Ryen. ::nodding to Ryen:: Ensign, this is Lieutenant T'Fearne Elaazni.
Ryen / T'Fearne: response
