((Bridge, Deck 3, USS Ronin))
V'Len slammed his hand down on the side of the console. It had been a full 15 minutes, and while V'Len had managed to delay the Sheliak slightly, he had failed to get them to stand down their offensive systems. Jack had even threatened to involve the Ferengi, but it had made little difference. It was as much time as talking would buy, which meant other tactics would need to be employed. His Andorian ancestors would no doubt be pleased. V'Len only hoped he could live up to their reputation in battle.
Kel: ::mumbling:: Boring conversation anyway. ::normal voice:: T'Fearne bring weapons online, full shields. Ensign Wren do we have the plan in place to go to warp?
Nicolau: Response
T’Fearne: Yes Sir! ::straining slightly to reach the shields:: Adjusting shields to full. Phaser banks are fully powered, all torpedo launchers are loaded. We are weapons ready. ::quietly:: Waiting on your order to target them, Captain.
Wren: ::frowning at the report:: Engineering is standing by, but we need to be well outside the radiation before we attempt warp. The level of radiation in the atmosphere would risk ignition.
Kel: ok. Bring us about Lt. Nicolau. If they want a scrape, we'll give them one.
Nicolau: Response
T’Fearne: ::slightly relieved:: Security is reporting the intruder situation at the transporter room contained. Two in custody, a Romulan and a Tholian Warrior. That transporter room is down for repairs.
V'Len allowed himself a half smile, it was one problem off the list
Wren: I’m sending an order to Engineering to stand by and be ready. Looking for an alternative to initiating warp
As the JAG officer rose to leave the bridge, V'Len noted a newcomer out of the corner of his eye. It was O'Connor. It was O'Connor sort of.
O’Connor: Sorry I’m late to the party, boss… but you know how us teenagers like to sleep in late. How can I help?
V'Len gave him a puzzled look and then looked at T'Fearne once more. They both seemed to have the same problem and it was almost comical. If there was one thing V'Len did not need it was teenagers to complicate things. So far T'Fearne seemed to remember her job.
Kel: Still able to helm an Akira-Class Starship?
O’Connor: Absolutely.Captain.
V'Len nodded at the helm.
Wren: If a firefight breaks out, it might be possible to get high enough to utilize a gravity assist in order to break away from the planet and radiation as quickly as possible in order to get to a safe distance to engage warp.
Kel: ::nodding to Wren:: Lt. Nicolau please allow Commander O'Connor to take the helm.
V'Len felt slightly bad. Nicolau had conducted herself very well, despite her own misgivings, but O'Connor was the senior helmsman and in this situation V'Len needed the best.
Kel: Take one of the auxiliary stations just in case Mr. O'Connor develops an extreme case of acne or angst.
Nicolau/O’Connor: Response
Wren: Based on what I understand, Sheliak ships are built more for durability than maneuverability. They’re large and dense, which wouldn’t serve them well in close quarters. We could easily outpace them if we need to make a break for it.
T’Fearne: The hostile vessel is heavier and less maneuverable than we are. If they attempt to pursue us through the gravity well their targeting solutions will lag behind ours, but that could bring them between us and the moon. If I miss, my targeting solutions would be dangerous to any personnel left on the surface.
V'Len considered but then heard an alert went off and V'Len glanced at Nicolau.
Nicolau/Wren/O’Connor: Response
Kel: Finally some good news.
V'Len allowed a smile to slowly creep across his face. Finally. He tapped rapidly on his own armrest console to confirm what the Lieutenant had told him. Indeed, the reactor power was decreasing. Tucker and his team had done it, they'd reactivated the cooling system. The reactor would not run out of control. He only hoped that the team was still alive to get back to the ship.
T’Fearne: Who else is left on the surface?
Kel: A team under Commander Tucker and a team under Lieutenant Shortrith. Lt. T'Fearne signal them both to get back to the Ronin.
Nicolau/Wren/O’Connor: Response
T’Fearne: ::worried:: We need to get them back aboard. I can’t risk firing at Hostile One if it’s got our teams on the moon behind it.
Kel: =/\= Kel to Esot. It looks like the cooling system is working. Crank it as high as possible, maybe we can extinguish the reaction all together. =/\=
Esot: =/\= Response =/\=
Nicolau/Wren/O’Connor: Response
V'Len now glanced at his monitor once more.
Kel: The amount of radiation escaping the lid is diminishing. Ensign Wren can we get a lock on our people?
T'Fearne/Nicolau/Wren/O’Connor: Response
Kel: Lt. Nicolau what's the status of the black hole?
T'Fearne/Nicolau/Wren/O’Connor: Response
That too was something like good news. V'Len was just feeling satisfied when the Ronin rocked violently.
Kel: Let me guess, our Sheliak friends?
T'Fearne/Nicolau/Wren/O’Connor: Response
