((The Shuttlecraft Queen Bee, In Orbit of Endicronimus V))
In a wisp of white light Poagie vanished. Now V'Len turned his attention to the controls and began the operation that would land the Queen Bee, his colleagues and Millie safely on the planet below. The surface of Endicronimus had a wealth of ecosystems and the big question was where Millie might settle in best. Given that they'd discovered her in the Arboretum, it made sense that a forest might be a good option. At least it made sense to V'Len.
Kel: I'm thinking a forest might be the best place for her. Lots of energy available.
Om-Zora: Response
V'Len altered the shuttle course and began to enter the planet's atmosphere. It was then that several lights on his console turned red and a warning sounded.
Kel: We're losing power. Millie may have damaged something during her tantrum.
Om-Zora: Response
Some of the stations on the bridge were beginning to smoke others were going dark. The planet was rapidly rushing up towards them and V'Len knew this was not going to be one of his smoothest landings. He just hoped it was a landing they could all walk away from.
((Forest clearing, some distance from the Farm, Endicronimus V))
The landing had not gone smoothly, but they had all walked away from it. The Queen Bee lay at a strange angle, It's nose pointed up, but the cockpit viewport was on the side rather than on the top. Turf had been thrown up in several directions, but it was still possible to see that more than half of the underside hull platting was gone. Rox was going to end him.
V'Len turned away from the wreck to once again observe the forest and Millie nestled in a low depression carpeted with ferns and surrounded by pine trees. Her tendrils were now extended into the soil and the being seemed very calm and content. Yellow light pulsed across the bottom of here domed head which had taken on a soft blue color. Around her unseen fauna scurried around trying to make sense of the new arrival.
Rhodium was nearby taking in the scene. V'Len wondered how a xeno-botanist thought about this. Even in such a placid scene V'Len wondered how exactly photosynthesis worked in these plants. His mind was always stuck on what the small molecules in living things were doing to make the whole organism work.
Wells: Nice landing, Commander. Everyone is still in one piece. I have definitely had worse disagreements with gravity.
Kel: As the humans say "any landing you can walk away from…"
Om-Zora: Response
Rhodium stepped closer to Millie with her tricorder open.
Wells: Lifesigns are steady—and growing stronger. She’s not injured… and she’s gained 200 times her original mass in the last two hours. That is an impressive amount of matter and energy conversion for such a little lady. ::looking to Om-Zora:: Anything interesting showing in the neural department?
V'Len glanced at Om-Zora.
Om-Zora: Response
Kel: That's good news. What about the forest? Should we be concerned that she'll drain all the life from this area?
Rhodium glanced up at the towering canopy above them, then back to Kel. V'Len took in a breath and his nostrils were saturated with the smell of pine and damp earth. There was certainly a lot of life here.
Wells: This forest is old, even for me. It knows how to cradle dangerous children. She chose well and so did you.
That was good to know.
Wells: And… I am sorry about your shuttle, Commander. She did not mean to break it.
Kel: ::smiling:: Kids. What can you do?
Om-Zora: Response
V'Len made a circuit around Millie to convince himself that there were no concerns. He then looked back at Om-Zora and Rhodium.
Kel: I think we should let her rest for now. Tomorrow I'll get a team down here to clean up the shuttle and set up some equipment so we can keep an eye on her growth.
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
V'Len through the pair a questioning look.
Kel: You mean she likes it there? The Queen Bee is now some kind of decoration for a child's room?
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
Kel: That's not going to go over well. Sounds like a problem for tomorrow Kel.
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
Kel: What do you say we beam back to the Ronin. I have some Saurian Brandy hidden in lab 4 if anyone's interested.
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
As the group clambered back toward the Queen Bee V'Len looked back at Millie. She was fine for now, but surely they would need to find others like her so she was not alone. Or would they come to her?
