Ensign T’Fearne tapped a few commands into her PADD, checking the holodeck schedule. Off-duty and dressed in a soft-booted, olive-green exercise outfit, she was ready for a serious Tassa'Akai session. Her akai sticks were tucked into the thigh holsters of the outfit, and a towel slung across her shoulder. She was eager to fine-tune her precision and reflexes, ensuring she was at peak efficiency and in tune with her body and tools as The Ronin cruised swiftly towards the wild frontier of the Alpha Isles.

Approaching the entrance to Holodeck 3, she was momentarily thrown off when the doors slid open to reveal the hum and splash of a running program and the replicated scent of chlorine.

She looked around, faintly surprised to find the aquatic exercise program running and an occupant in the pool. Quickly, T’Fearne glanced down to double-check the schedule details on her PADD, confused as to why the computer had indicated an open timeslot when the holodeck was clearly in use. She was about to leave quietly, but before she could, a familiar face broke the water's surface, diving back with a splash and decided to greet her rather than back out without a word.

She moved to a spot where Sybil would see her when she came up from the next dive.

Resurfacing, Sybil wiped the synthetic droplets from her eyes, glanced at the soft boots of her olive green exercise suit and followed the outfit up to her face.

Nemes: Oh. Hi! I wasn‘t expecting anybody here.

Crouching down beside her fellow countrywoman in the pool, T’Fearne offered Sybil a rueful grin.

T’Fearne: Hi, Sybil. Sorry, I interrupted your program. Holodeck 4 is down for maintenance, and my session got bumped here. It looks like the computer double-booked the room. :: gesturing at gear and weapons::

Nemes: No, it’s okay. It’s not my programme anyway. I found it in the databank. ::smiling:: I guess that’s easier than providing an actual pool on board.

T’Fearne studied the pool, watching the holographic water shimmer under the soft lights.

T’Fearne: I think this is just the default exercise program. Alyndra mentioned something about the VIP guest suites onboard having baths with real running water. Still, yes, all that water in an ample space uncontained would be a nightmare to maintain, not to mention a safety issue.

As Sybil disappeared beneath the surface, T’Fearne relaxed on her heels, glancing out over the shimmering water. Moments later, Sybil shot out of the pool like a fish, coming to sit dripping artificial water beside her at the pool’s edge.

Nemes: Do you come here often?

T’Fearne: Now and then, but not since B’Hala.

The truth just slipped out before the Vulcazoid could catch it. There was something disarming about Sybil—an ease in her presence that made T’Fearne's guard lower without thinking.

oO She could be a good mediator. People just feel… comfortable opening up to her. Oo

Nemes: Response

T’Fearne hesitated for a moment and chose to level with Sybil.

T’Fearne: I was caught in a subsurface stream and washed through underground tunnels before Lieutenant Lorrana dragged me out to join our team. It was an… unsettling experience in a long line of unnerving experiences. I’ve not gotten back in the water since then. Do you…do you think much about it, Sybil? The rescue mission, I mean?

Still crouching at the pool edge as though the holographic water could get her gear actually wet, T’Fearne dipped her fingers into the holographic water, watching the ripples spread outward. She felt as though a low electric current was running up her arms and down her spine.

Nemes: Response

T’Fearne::: wincing slightly:: It was far from an ideal mission, but I am coming to accept that there’s no such thing as an ideal mission. The ones we survive? They are the successes. It may sound strange, but I am glad you, Alieth and Luxa were there with me. I don’t imagine I could have returned if I had been alone.

Nemes: Response

Wanting to lighten the mood, she segued into a topic she wanted to discuss more with Sybil.

T’Fearne: How is your leg feeling now? If you are swimming like a fish, then it must be much better. Where did you learn to swim? Was it while you were growing up on Betazed?
