((Control Center, Habitat Dome “The Hab”, Moon Sigma, Ross 580 System))
V'Len watched the reading, his eyes not blinking as the power numbers began to change. His best hope was that he system could be contained once more. If the Ronin and he crew cold hold things together Starfleet could send a science vessel with more expertise to handle the situation. The revelation that the power for the reactor was being pulled from another Ross-580 was confounding. Niac had said that Ross-580 was the key. Now there was a question about whether he was talking about their Ross-580 or another. It also meant there was an aperture deep within the reactor that lead to a different universe. He was startled by a chirp from his commbadge.
Tucker: ::tapping his combadge:: =/\= Tucker to Kel, just a word of warning: there are five worker-drone Tholians headed your way. And they’re carrying something, we’re just not sure what.
It was just the sort of news V'Len did not want.
Kel: =/\= Understood Commander. Any advice? =/\=
Tucker: =/\= Keep your head on a swivel, Skipper. Tucker out. =/\=
V'Len's head was definitely spinning.
Solana: So we’re about to have company. If the drones are carrying something I’m inclined to say we can’t let them get here and do whatever it is they intend to with whatever they’re carrying. I’d bet a BC cruller that whatever it is involves demo of some kind. Think you can handle the rest of the evac? ::she looked at Aduko and Esot::
Esot: I am a bit focused on preventing the reactor from melting down at the moment, Chief, but I assure you, as soon as I am able, I will start kicking people's asses out of here.
V'Len instinctively reached for his phaser. He could not let an officer strike out alone to take on five Tholians and Esot was needed here to work on the reactor. That meant he would have to accompany Solana and leave the Ensign here at the control center until he could return.
Aduko: ::Looking up from his sullen introspection.:: You'll need someone to unlock door--
tr'Kharis: ::pointing sharply at his friend, voice suddenly firm:: You stay here. Your brains might be needed yet to help salvage this mess, if such a thing can be done.
Before he could even take a step tr'Kharis had spoken and V'Len stopped. The Romulan had been intent on getting off the planet to safety and he was not offering to accompany Solana. It gave V'Len some small hope. If the tr'Kharis was willing to help them stay there then perhaps he did not consider their situation as dire as he first did.
Aduko: You got it, Shodar. ::With a quick smile, he couldn't help but sass.:: You're outgunned by Starfleet over there...don't let her steal all the glory.
Solana: Someone has to take care of them and as far as I know, I’m the one with the most combat experience against Tholians. I told you I’d come prepared. If they get passed me those should help give you an advantage.
V'Len gave Solana a nod and a thin smile. He did not relish sending the crew into danger, but he had little choice now.
Esot: So don't let them get past you. ::smiling grimly:: Give 'em hell, Chief. ::to Aduko:: I would ask you to remain, if you please - you are my good luck charm. So far.
Aduko: ::Twice in as many minutes, someone's words caused Joakim to whirl around in surprise.:: That's the nicest thing a Cardassian has ever said to me. ::He took a few steps closer to the ensign, curious to see her new subroutine but also curious to get a better look at its creator.::
Kel: Chief, Administrator, be careful. I'd like you both back in the same condition you're leaving in.
Solana and tr'Kharis headed for the door, the chief was now all business. V'Len was simply pleased that the team was coming together and slowly breaking down the problem. He only hoped it would continue.
tr'Kharis: ::to Solana, squaring his incredibly triangular shoulders:: Then I will accompany you. Show you the route they will likely take. They are like crystalline insects, creatures of habit. If we intercept them, perhaps there is a way I can help deter them from their course of action.
Kel: Good luck!
Solana opened the door and headed out. Tr'Kharis gave Aduko one final word of encouragement.
tr'Kharis: I leave you in command of the base…of our peop…personnel. Don’t worry about what you think I would do. Do what you think is right as you always have, Joakim. ::stepping close to Aduko for a moment:: And if I do not return… my friend… Jolan’tru.
Aduko: Jolan'tru, Shodar. ::Joakim reached out his suited right forearm to meet Soldu's, and looked into his eyes.:: I'll get our people out...and save a spot for you.
Soldu clasped his forearm firmly, then turned without hesitation and followed the Starfleet woman into the corridor.
Solana: I suggest you seal this door behind me. I’ll signal when it’s clear.
V'Len nodded and once Akudo and tr'Kharis had finished their moving goodbye, the door was closed and locked. The room was silent once again, though there were the dull sounds of instruments whirring and beeping as they worked to keep the situation under control. Ensign Esot broke the silence.
Esot: Can you think of a reason I wouldn't be able to make a connection between the powerplants and the reactor's coolant processing? The computer accepts the command, in fact doesn't even spit out an error, but it does not actually make the connection.
Aduko: ::Softly.:: What? ::Louder, coming back to the present.:: It's...not connecting? ::He strode back across the room, helmet still tucked under his left arm.::
V'Len walked over to look behind the pair. He'd dealt with injuries where a given limb lost feeling or movement. These were most always the result of a disconnection somewhere.
Esot: It's a serious problem. I am nearly through completing the entire process, this is the second to last thing I need to accomplish before we can kick off the new cooling. Damned Romulan technology.
Aduko: ::With a frown, Joakim took up a spot looking over the woman's shoulder. He wasn't completely fluent in Romulan code, but he knew enough to understand that her work wasn't the problem.:: Your code looks solid...the two systems are showing online...
Kel: Perhaps a physical part of the system had been damaged?
He didn't hope so, but he wasn't sure what else it could be.
Esot: ::sighing:: If I have to stop here, I have to clear out all of the work I've already done and start over from square one. I don't particularly want to do that.
Kel: That's not ideal. Is one of our teams in a position to check the system?
Esot: Have you ever heard of Praxis?
V'Len had and did not want the reminder.
Aduko: Checksum error. ::He turned away from the console, pointing at the alert message.:: The reactor's cooling system, has probably been through one helmata of a temporal event. It's still operational, but...there's a discrepancy, maybe as simple as a corrupt system clock.
Kel: Can we reset the clock ::pause:: or tell the system the time doesn't matter?
Esot: Response
Aduko: There are backups stored, uh...Computing Resources. They kept all that organized...and the CR office is actually in the admin section, here in the Hab.
Kel: Based on our Tholian visitors, I don't think a field trip is the best option. Can we access what we need from here?
Esot: Response
V'Len stepped around the terminal and once again to look at the reactor status.
Kel: Looks like containment is still good.
Esot/Aduko: Response
V'Len waited as the pair continued to wrestle with the control of the generator backup. He was unclear how much success they were having.
Kel: Is there a manual override? Commander Tucker's team is nearby I could send them to get the generator going.
Esot/Aduko: Response
V'Len took a step back and let the two work. He himself queried the computer about the aperture that was used to draw power from the alternate Ross-580. the system seemed be a ring with what was likely some kind of accelerator within it. There was no actual physical "door", which meant that whatever kind of energy the ring was creating was the door. The ring glowed yellow at the moment and V'Len was not sure how it looked normally.
Kel: So this ring that acts as the aperture, is it safe to assume it's some kind of particle accelerator?
Esot/Aduko: Response
