Wren: Actually the workshops are um…. Out of order right now. There was a lot of damage from the battle in….that particular area. Still working day and night to get those ship-shape, to borrow the phrase.

Oswald: That's fun to say isn't it.  Ship shape.  Ship shape!.  What exactly is the proper shape for a ship?

Kessler: I doubt the Alliance will ever let us have the ship in top notch form for very long. They do like to beat us down, don't they?

Delphina noted that Oswald suddenly looked extremely surprised to hear that, and she wondered if he’d been briefed on what was going on in the Alpha Isles. It wasn’t as though the information wasn’t available to the greater public, but since it was such a small sector of space, she hadn’t really thought about it until she was in the thick of it. She’d never heard of the station he’d come from, but perhaps they weren’t as up to date on the situation?

Nakada: :: attempting to not be suspicious, loudly :: Ahem. Anyway, that’s the power balance. We can also monitor the ship’s general health here – its actually a fascinating field of science to figure out what the best way to compress information in a useful way is. Much like with the bridge, we have to make tradeoffs since we can’t display everything.

Oswald:  Very impressive.  How do you determine what parameters to monitor at any given moment?

Wren: We have an algorithm set up that allows us to monitor three sections of the ship at a time. Typically we pair them based on proximity, importance, and how they affect each other, so, like this ::pulling up a visual:: This is showing us the current core diagnostics, nacelle stability, and energy output.

Nakada: For example, I’d love to be able to see the nacelle pressure on here while we’re at warp. But it honestly isn’t a very important metric. That is, unless you happen to be in a firefight, in which case it suddenly is. If it’s lost, you suddenly can’t warp/

Oswald:  Does ::hesitantly:: does that happen a lot?

Wren: ::trying to be encouraging:: We try to move through the program quickly to make sure we get all the available information, but it is a very large ship with a lot of systems.

Nakada: Well, :: jokingly :: most of our engineers can only read so many displays at a time.

Wren: ::Reassuring:: And of course we have ops to help us. Nothing onboard gets done without ops.

Nakada: I’m curious, can you interface directly with the ship?

Oswald: ::nerdy chortle:: I tried that on Starbase 375 once.  All I did was burn they Administrator's toast and then passed out.  Woke up in the airlock.

oO….. They Put Him In An Airlock???? Oo Delphina exchanged a look with Nakada, hoping she didn’t look as explosively angry as she felt. oO That sounds like it was an accident. Why would anyone put someone in an airlock to punish them? That’s psychotic. Oo

Kessler: Well, since the more interesting areas are still under repair, how about we head to sickbay and can introduce you to the medical staff? I doubt you'll need their services but you still will want to meet them.

Oswald:  You  never know.  I might have a need at some point.

Wren: Not to mention the two departments often work very closely together.

Nakada: Response

Kessler: ::chuckling lightly:: Well, with any luck Dr. Del La Croix will also be there for you to meet.

Delphina immediately felt herself flush, and busied herself with smoothing her skirt. She didn’t know what it was, but ever since seeing that cryo-gun that the doctor had designed, she’d been thinking about her a lot, and had been making multiple excuses to go to sick bay to fix things. And it wasn’t as though De La Croix’s personality or habits had changed, she still forgot Delphina’s first name very often, but all that seemed to do was make Delphina want her to remember it.

Oswald: ::deep voice:: De La Croix. ::normal voice:: Sounds very regal.

Wren: ::doing a bad job of hiding her eagerness:: She’s quite a character!

Nakada: Response

((Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

Delphina followed their little group as they walked into sickbay, glad to see that they didn’t seem to be in the middle of an emergency. She exchanged a few pleasant waves with some of the doctors, before realizing with some surprise that there were a few new ensigns that she hadn’t seen yet. oO I swear to the four, the reef is just generating people at this point! Oo

Oswald: Nice place you got here.

Wren: ::To Cerisor:: Hello!

Kessler/Nakada/Any: Response

Cerisor: Thank you, Commander. We've been quite busy with the supply inventory, but we've been keeping things running smoothly. I'm Doctor Cerisor. Are you feeling-

Oswald: Thank you, but that won't be necessary, I'm an android.

Cerisor: I-I see. Well. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, or if you'd like me to fetch Doctor de la Croix, I'm sure she is around somewhere.

Wren: ::perking up:: Oh, that would b-

Kessler/Nakada/Any: Response

Oswald: Actually I do have a question. Mr. Kessler expressed some distaste earlier when I mentioned that I could take in organic food and then regurgitate it later. I thought maybe he and others would be more comfortable if I could take in such substances and then excrete it from a more traditionally humanoid location. Would you be able to update my system in that way?

Cerisor: ::looking blankly at Oswald:: Huh?

Wren: ::covering her mouth::........... Mr. Oswald, I…. think that’s a…::completely at a loss for words:: hm

Kessler/Nakada/Any: Response

Oswald: Response

Cerisor: I-I mean, we certainly could, er, try. I just... why? If you don't need to do it, I mean.

Oswald: Response

Wren: ::quickly:: Mr. Oswald, I don’t know if that’s necessary-

Kessler/Nakada/Any: Response

Cerisor: Well, Commander. I'm more of a organic Doctor, and that sounds more like a job for a roboticst. However, there's no harm in taking a look, right? It seems that you have some engineers with you.

Oswald: Response

Delphina took a deep breath, for the first time in her life trying not to be the robotics expert in the room.

Wren: You don’t need to change your internal systems, Mr. Oswald. Unless you want to, but you shouldn’t feel as though you have to.

Kessler/Nakada/Any: Response

Rylar lead the quartet to the bed, letting the Commander lie down on it. Finding the medical scanner, Rylar looked to the screen above the bed as he waved it over the android's torso.

Cerisor: As I suspected, your internals are entirely mechanical. However... it does appear to be attempting to mimic a human body system. Your circuits seem to be following the same basic path as a nervous system. You're obvious missing lungs and similar organs... but, there's actually quite a bit of room in there.

Oswald: Response

Cerisor: Supposing the Commander would like to... proceed. How feasible would this be, from a robotics perspective?

oO Alright, I guess we are discussing adding a…… a release valve. Okay. Oo

Wren: I mean, um…. ::increasingly uncomfortable:: We- I mean, I could add one technically? oO just think of it like connecting internal tubing…… why doesn’t that help?? Oo ::Looking at Nakada for help:: I’ve never worked on an android before, though.

Nakada/Kessler/Cerisor/Oswald/Any: Response

Wren: Not that I’m not being supportive of course! I just….. Nakada, what do you think?

Mouthin a quick ‘sorry’ Delphina stepped back, rubbing a hand across her face in embarrassment. Having an android officer on-board was an important step, especially for the rights of inorganic life forms, but there was a line, and she did not feel comfortable debating the introduction of a release valve.

Nakada/Kessler/Cerisor/Oswald/Any: Response

Wren: I mean, yes, I do know a lot about robotics, I just… I don’t know anything about android anatomy, and I don’t want to cause any damage due to my lack of experience.
