((Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Ronin))
With Commander O'Connor now on his way to the bridge, there were others in the sickbay that needed help. Dr. La Croix seemed to be finding the whole situation quite amusing, so much so that she was doubled over with laughter. Rox was slightly concerned that perhaps they'd finally broken the visiting MD, PHD, FASFS, POS, ETC.
De La Croix: ...and those little green cheeks....I can't...oh...oh I can't remember the last time I laughed like that. Thank you Nurse...both of you. You've done...adequate work today.
Rox: Wow. Never thought I'd be good enough to land in adequate strumpet territory.
She hoped Avae might follow up on the remark, but she, as ever, was worried about the people they were trying to help.
Avae: How are the others?
De la Croix: Most are resting...some more comfortably than others. I believe our efforts have been fruitful...assuming the ship survives the next few hours, these people should as well.
Rox: Some of them are having significant pain. Conventional analgesics are not helping in all cases.
Rox noted a Bajoran man standing in the doorway. She grabbed a tricorder and walked toward the man.
Rox: Sir. My name is Roxanne, are you alright.
Kangar: I think I’ll live. Radiation burns sting but it’s manageable.
Rox opened her tricorder and began to help the man toward the biobed Ian had recently occupied. Avae and La Croix were looking at the status board, no doubt trying to plan some kind of strategy.
Avae: I think we might be having more guests soon.
De la Croix: Not here we won't, we won't be able to free up any of theses beds for at least an hour. Advise them to head to ward C and I'll meet them there...I think I can leave you two in charge of this lot...and if that plucky little Jem'Hadar ever wanders back in do make sure to put a bowl and a treat out for them.
Rox eased the man onto the bed.
Rox: Looks like you decided to have all your X-rays all at once. Hold on.
Avae: You’re in good hands, sir. Don’t worry.
Kangar: Yeah, I was dosed by the sancha and chroniton radiation a couple times.
Rox hurried to grab a hypo and glanced at La Croix who was hurrying out of the room. Rox felt relieved that she was gone.
Rox: ::pressing the hypo to Kangar's neck:: This will help and make you more comfortable.
Kangar: Thanks, the radiation burns had been stinging a bit
Avae: We’re about to have more from the surface. We’re sending them to Ward C, so I’m heading over there. High possibility of Tholian inflicted wounds so I’ll let you know. How is he?
Rox: I'm still assessing. Radiation exposure, obviously, but there may be something else going on.
Avae: Considering we’ve seen signs of de-ageing in a number of individuals already it’s possible.
Kangar: The de-aging is unsettling but then again, I haven’t felt physically this good in a long time.
Rox gave the patient a small smile.
Rox: That explains why the telomere lengths are off.
Avae: Considering at least two of the people we rescued are needing full transfusions I’ll be glad when we're away from the radiation. Anyways, let me know if you need anything, Rox.
Rox: ::deep voice:: Ya vol
With that the purple haired nurse quickly headed out of the room
Rox: You have several dermal abrasions. Do you know where those came from.
Kangar: Just some other scrapes on the side from a Tholian but otherwise fine, I think. Is there something you haven’t told me?
Rox looked at the man for a moment and then back at her tricorder.
Rox: I'm going to go out on a limb and say that at some point recently you were a middle aged Bajoran male. ::pause:: At this time you appear to be just approaching adolescence. So my question to you is what exactly was going on down there, on that moon? Did you set out to find the fountain of youth?
The man, or perhaps boy depending, remained momentarily silent.
Kangar: Oh, nothing like that. Things just sort of went off the rails. It’s really ‘dari’s place to explain all that.
Rox: ::narrowing her age:: Ok. Keep your secret. I can get the dermal damage looked at and the radiation isn't too bad. The age reversion may take some time.
Kangar: Yeah, about that…What if I didn’t want to be cured? What if I wanted to stay this age?
Rox thought about it for a moment.
Rox: I think that's something you should speak to a counselor about, but would you like some unsolicited advice?
Kangar: Response
Rox: Loosing a few years isn't a cure all. Changing yourself won't suddenly make your problems evaporate.
Kangar: Response
Rox leaned over to the LCARs display and dimmed the lights.
Rox: I just know I was a pain in the ass when I was a teenager. I don't think the universe needs a repeat of that. Get some rest, I'll be back shortly.
Kangar: Response
Rox turned and walked over to the next biobed to start her circuit around the room. It was Long to be a long night by the look of things.
