((Arboretum, Deck 05, USS Ronin))
V'Len and Rhodium had now been joined by Poagie and would soon have an additional guest in the form of Om-Zora. V'Len was working to get the medical transporters online while keeping an eye on the now tentacled jelly that was growing out of the tree. The pulsating blue glow continued to build and V'Len had to admit that the tree was looking more and more drained with leaves beginning to fall gently to the ground. V'Len was certain Rhodium would relish the opportunity to do some raking later.
Kel: Poagie let me know once the shuttle is outside the bay and about 10km from the Ronin. Rhodium, I can transport it ::beat:: her to the aft section, but how do we get her linked to the power supply?
Poagie: Just a few seconds.
Wells: You don’t have to worry about linking her, be more concerned about protecting the shuttle's important systems. She feeds on matter and energy. The shuttle’s auxiliary systems will suffice temporarily, but she will want company. Life nearby. Preferably calm, familiar life.
Kel: Thank you Mr. Poagie. Once we're aboard where should we take her? The farm?
Poagie: The farm? There’s no rare commodities market there that I’m aware of?
Rhodium clicked her tongue in a disappointed tut-tut, and V'Len realized he would not need to say anything to the Ferengi.
Wells: ::smiling sweetly at the Ferengi:: Then you are not very well connected, mon petit capitaliste. Endicronimus V has… interests and clients to help heal; some of their needs are unusual. Established gambling venue, dens, collectors, and underground brokers with excellent taste. ::answering Kel:: Yes, we have no choice, she will do well on the surface where she can mature from the matter and energy of the planet until she is ready to leave. Division 14 will have a field day studying her and attending to her every need. Just not too close to the Farm, she needs room to grow.
Poagie: Look, if you manage to stabilize junior here aboard the Queen Bee, I do happen to know a guy who used to do business with this Zabalian trader who collected unique commodities. I could get the Zabalian’s contact info or even better we could maybe sell it to my guy.
Wells: ::sharp glance, all warmth gone:: Non. She is no commodity. She is a child of a unique alien race, and if she doesn't destroy the shuttle before we get to the surface, it will be a miracle. And she needs her uncle Poagie to show up for family.
Kel: I'm afraid your Zabalian friend would find me a unique commodity, so I think we'll steer clear. Thanks.
Poagie: ::grumbling:: Where’s the profit in that?
Wells: ::rolling her eyes:: Yes, yes, Rule of Acquisition no. six: “Never let family stand in the way of opportunity”. That tired old fallacy, but you are here, aboard the Ronin, a Starfleet vessel, non? ::raising silver brows::
Kel: ::smiling:: She's got you there.
Poagie: Fine, fine. Queen Bee is in position. ::sarcastically:: Do you still need help strapping it into the child seat?
V'Len chuckled at the idea and then laughed out loud as Om-Zora added her two cents arriving with the rest of the team in the clearing.
Om-Zora: ::in a slightly forced monotone:: I doubt a being like this requires a child seat. But I could help with possibly helping to relax her? Them? While you figure out where she needs to be relocated. Make sure there’s a very limited chance of somewhat panicked actions in response to being moved.
Rhodium seemed overjoyed to see Om-Zora approaching. V'Len was glad that his team was getting along. He had worked well with the sickbay staff, but scientists were different. They could be "unique" in many ways.
oO They may collect fungus or something. Oo
Wells: ::beaming:: Oh, I like you already. Oui, the baby needs a big sister to coo over her, keep her diverted, or did you have something else in mind, mon oisillon?
Poagie rolled his eyes and audibly sighed.
Kel: Om-Zora we'll take all the help we can get.
V'Len now had the transporters ready, but he wanted to make sure all was set before he made any moves. He'd used the internal sensors of the Ronin to get a read on the…young girl, and wanted to review them carefully.
Om-Zora: I am a neuroscientist of sorts. I have some experience understanding wave patterns like that. Possibly useful in mimicking the calming ones if you can figure out what those are in creatures like this. It might be good for both the ship and the… jellyfish? Although I do admit it provides a slight challenge since there is not a brain in the typical sense of the term. Not uncommon in beings like this. And yet the mindful intelligence shows signs of being there in other ways despite being technically brainless by normative standards.
Om-Zora took a moment to assess the glowing blue child. Her feathers seemed different in its light.
Om-Zora: Something that other brainless beings could learn from.
Poagie frowned and V'Len wondered if he would need to say something about manners, but Rhodium had kindly stepped in.
Wells: ::grinning mischieviously:: Most common Cnidarian found on worlds have no brain, Lt., but I think you’ll find that this species is more complex, a space-dwelling lifeform, they have telepathy, they feel benevolence, and sorrow, they form life bonds. Now is your chance, neuroscientist. You don’t need equipment for this; she can hear you now. Your mind, just talk to her, or sing. Tell her something that makes you calm and happy.
The tendrils kept sweeping toward Poagie and he kept squirming out of the way.
Poagie: Right, tweet it a lullaby or something to settle it down.
Kel: Aw, she likes you Poagie. You should be honored.
Om-Zora: Response
Wells: ::softening, voice lowering as the glow steadies:: Easy, petite étoile. We are not here to hurt you. Only to keep you fed… and everyone else intact.
V'Len was watching the energy fluctuations in the life form. The computer had helpfully identified it as a Farpoint Cnidarian, a form of cosomozoan life form of some renown. V'Len was thrilled to see one at this young stage. More surprising still, the ministrations of Om-Zora and Rhodium had calmed the life form. V'Len took the opportunity to beam the creature and the 4 scientists to the waiting Queen Bee.
((A moment later - The Shuttlecraft Queen Bee, In Orbit of Endicronimus V))
V'Len and his fellows arrived in the fore section, while Millie, he hoped was in the aft section.
oO Millie? Oo
V'Len rolled his eyes at himself. Apparently Xam Kel had chosen to put forth a name. It was a bittersweet one, but V'Len put the story of Xam Kel out of his mind for a moment. He slid into the ops station and isolated the auxiliary power supply, sending it to the aft section. He initiated containment fields to keep the creature as safe as possible.
Poagie: Great, now what do we do? Who’s got a pacifier?
Kel: Let me get the aft section monitors up. Om-Zora can you check vitals?
Om-Zora: Response
The view of the aft compartment appeared large on the main display and V'Len's antennae stood fully upright. Easily filling half the section was a jellyfish, or at least the dome of a jellyfish with several tentacles hanging off whirling in all directions. Millie was no long blue, but now had spots of yellow moved along the dome.
Om-Zora slid behind another console.
Wells: ::eyes alight with joy:: Congratulations, mes amis. You have just managed to put the giant alien jelly-baby in the back seat, now we have to be quick, or she will become very attached to this ship. She’s already draining energy from the forcefield.
V'Len felt like the congratulations had come a minute too early. V'Len hurried to bring up the engines of the shuttle, but noticed Poagie holding his ears. He heard nothing, though his Antennae did seem to feel strangely as if they were vibrating.
Poagie: ::wincing:: What if we just put it to sleep? Maybe gas it, drug it, cryofreeze.... or even warm milk.
Kel: I don't even know where to start with sedating it, but Millie is clearly upset. Om-Zora do you think you can do you stuff again?
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
That seemed to calm Millie somewhat and V'Len laid in a course for the surface of the farm.
Kel: I'm heading for the Farm. Where do we think she'll be most comfortable? Something by the seaside? A forest?
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
The Bee was making a line for the planet when Poagies commbadge came to life.
Brat: =/\= Brat to Poagie. Where are you? =/\=
Poagie rolled his eyes.
Brat: =/\= The courier shuttle is leaving early. And you need to be on it. =/\=
Poagie: =/\= Actually, I’m kinda in the middle of some… =/\=
The whining picked up again from the back bay and he furrowed his brow weighing the lesser of two evils.
Brat: =/\= Oh no you don't...No excuses. You owe me. =/\=
Poagie heaved a big sigh.
Poagie: =/\= Fine, fine. I’m on my way. =/\=
Kel: Seems you need to be on your way Poagie.
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
Poagie turned to glance at Millie once more.
Poagie: Well, as much as I’d love to be continuing helping with your little daycare dilemma, apparently I’m needed elsewhere. You guys got this. I'm not good with kids anyway.
Kel: ::smiling:: Good luck, we'll let you know how this turns out.
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
Poagie: But this doesn’t mean I’ve waived my quarter share if you do sell it.
Now it was V'Len's turn to smile as he triggered the transport back to the Ronin.
Kel: Minus my finder's fee.
In an instant he was gone. V'Len turned to check on Om-Zora and Rhodium.
Kel: I'm thinking a forest might be the best place for her. Lots of energy available.
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
V'Len altered the shuttle course and began to enter the planet's atmosphere. It was then that several lights on his console turned red and a warning sounded.
Kel: We're losing power. Millie may have damaged something during her tantrum.
Om-Zora/Wells: Response
