Lt.Cmdr Ian O'Connor- Solo Amigo Meets Waste Disposal

Light duty didn’t mean no duty. There were still some modifications to the helm controls that Ian wanted to implement. He’d taken the day yesterday to catch up on some of the latest trends in astrogation and read a post some hotshot kid at the Academy wrote. Ian’s first inkling was that the cadet was nuts but as he gave it more thought there were some merits there. Ian generally wasn’t so proud that he wouldn’t consider an idea just because of someone’s age or lack of experience. Not granted, Mr. 2nd year cadet D.L. Carlotti had a number of fundamental flaws that wouldn’t work in practicality but it let Ian approach a few things from a new perspective.
It would take some reallocation of power and possibly a bit of physical alteration of relays and power distribution junctions around both his bridge station and the astrogation lab. This wasn’t something he could puzzle out alone though.
It had been a while since the three amigos had a chance to spend some quality time together. Perhaps it was time.
O’Connor: Computer, Locate Lt. Evinrude
Computer: Lt. Evinrude is not on board the ship.
oO Hmm well then maybe just two amigos Oo
O’Connor: Computer, Locate Commander Tucker
Computer: Commander Tucker is not on board the ship.
Ian could have sworn he’d have been in engineering.
O’Connor: Is Nurse Rox on the Ronin?
Computer: Nurse Rox is not currently aboard.
oO Okay, well that explains Tuck but where the heck is Tess? Oo
Ian decided to table the idea for the time being and shift gears. Perhaps it was time to meet the new android Commander he’d been hearing about.
O’Connor: Computer, is Commander Oswald.aboard?
Computer: Commander Oswald is in sick bay
oO Great back to sick bay. Well at least someone stayed on the ship. Oo
((A few minutes later, Sickbay))
The doors opened and Ian approached a. small gathering around who he presumed to be Oswald. The android had been speaking and Ian only caught the end of it.
((OOC: Folded Ian into this scene))
Oswald: … such substances and then excrete it from a more traditionally humanoid location. Would you be able to update my system in that way?
O’Connor: Did I come at a bad time?
Cerisor: ::looking blankly at Oswald:: Huh?
Wren: ::covering her mouth::........... Mr. Oswald, I…. think that’s a…::completely at a loss for words:: hm
Ian glanced among Jack and Keneth giving them a quizzical “what the…?” look.
Kessler/Nakada/Any/Oswald: Response
O’Connor: I don’t know. However there are probably better alternatives to fitting in than physically installing a waste removal tract.
Cerisor: I-I mean, we certainly could, er, try. I just... why? If you don't need to do it, I mean.
Oswald: Response
Wren: ::quickly:: Mr. Oswald, I don’t know if that’s necessary-
Kessler/Nakada/Any: Response
Cerisor: Well, Commander. I'm more of a organic Doctor, and that sounds more like a job for a roboticst. However, there's no harm in taking a look, right? It seems that you have some engineers with you.
Oswald: Response
Delphina took a deep breath. Ian looked away trying not to make eye contact with her for fear he’d laugh as he knew she was pretty darn competent in robotics.
Wren: You don’t need to change your internal systems, Mr. Oswald. Unless you want to, but you shouldn’t feel as though you have to.
O’Connor: I’m not sure exactly what I walked in on Commander, but I wholeheartedly agree with Ensign Wren here. Make choices that are best for you not to conform to what others think. This is a pretty accepting and IDIC thinking crew. Either way is okay, sir.
Kessler/Nakada/Any: Response
Oswald: Response
Rylar lead the quartet to the bed, letting the Commander lie down on it. Finding the medical scanner, Rylar looked to the screen above the bed as he waved it over the android's torso.
Cerisor: As I suspected, your internals are entirely mechanical. However... it does appear to be attempting to mimic a human body system. Your circuits seem to be following the same basic path as a nervous system. You're obviously missing lungs and similar organs... but, there's actually quite a bit of room in there.
Oswald: Response
Cerisor: Supposing the Commander would like to... proceed. How feasible would this be, from a robotics perspective?
Wren: I mean, um…. ::increasingly uncomfortable:: We- I mean, I could add one technically? oO just think of it like connecting internal tubing…… why doesn’t that help?? Oo ::Looking at Nakada for help:: I’ve never worked on an android before, though.
Ian just kind of stood back watching the conversation.
Nakada/Kessler/Cerisor/Oswald/Any: Response
Wren: Not that I’m not being supportive of course! I just….. Nakada, what do you think?
Mouthin a quick ‘sorry’ Delphina stepped back, rubbing a hand across her face in embarrassment. Having an android officer on-board was an important step, especially for the rights of inorganic life forms, but there was a line, and she did not feel comfortable debating the introduction of a release valve.

Wren: I mean, yes, I do know a lot about robotics, I just… I don’t know anything about android anatomy, and I don’t want to cause any damage due to my lack of experience.

Ian stepped over to the replicator and programmed it. In a few seconds he was holding a picture book.
O’Connor: Commander, If you decide you are gonna go through with this, please accept this gift in the spirit it is intended, which is a whole hearted welcome to the club of those who defecate.
Ian handed the android a copy of the children’s book Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi
