((Bridge, Deck 3, USS Ronin))

More than anything V'Len and the Crew needed options.  Thus far the crew had been unable to determine much of anything from the data available to them.  What was clear is that nothing about the situation was going to be easy.  Neither internal or external sensors were working well and the anomaly from which the Kurosawa had emerged was loaded with chronitons to the point nothing could be seen.  Tucker and his group were having similar problems examining the wreckage.   To top it all off, V'Len's antennae continued to burn uncomfortably.

Kel:  Let's pause for a moment.  We know the region around where the Kurosawa was is strange, but we've made an assumption there.

Kessler: ::turning to Kel:: What are you thinking Commander?

Kel:  We assumed that the rest of the Ross-580 system was normal.  We hadn't even started our survey when the Kurosawa appeared.

Kessler: You're thinking there might be a clue to this in the star system itself?

Shortrith: It's quite possible.

Kel: We don't think there's anyone else out there, but let's see what is there.  How many planets?  Asteroid belts?  Gas clouds?

V'Len knew that if the baseline of this system was different than what they were observing could be as much about Ross-580 as it was about the Kurosawa.  Niac had said, "Ross-580 is the key".

Kessler: ::staring at his scans:: With long range sensors offline, the distortion field from the anomaly is affecting the short range sensors with us being this close. We will need to reposition the Ronin sir for a more detailed scan of the system.

Shortrith: Wouldn't that also change the risk? I can analyse it if needed.

V'Len was unsure what repositioning the Ronin might mean for recovery efforts.  There were many variables to consider, but moving off seemed like a decent idea considering moving toward the anomaly had given them precious little information.

Kessler: Well, we have two other courses of action we could use. A series of probes launched deeper into the star system or we send out a shuttle to get the detailed scans we need, that would keep the Ronin on station for the other teams.

Shortrith: Each have downsides of their own.

Kel: Probes are the best option. Losing a probe is preferable to losing a shuttle full of people.

Kessler: Probes can't give you the human factor and reaction time that a shuttle can but a shuttle puts crew in harm's way, which at this point is a risk I am willing to take and I think anyone else here is too.

As ever Jack cut to the chase.  Xam Kel would have made a similar argument.  Manned craft had an edge that programmed probes did not, they could improvise.
Shortrith: If needed, I can accompany whoever is on the shuttle to be there if any medical emergency arises. I'm willing to put myself at risk if it means to help someone.

Kel I appreciate the sentiment doctor.

Kessler: Response

The discussion was interrupted by internal coms coming to life.

Morgan: =/\= Lieutenant Morgan to the bridge =/\=

V'Len had not actually met Lt. Morgan, at least not in a meaningful way, but she had struck him as being very similar to Xam Kel's wife Ivomella Sh'Ezarhess.  Ivomella was always fiddling with some part or other and had tools dangling from her at all times.  V'Len had obsereved that Lt. Morgan often wore a long coat whose pockets were loaded with bits and bobs.

Kel: =/\= Kel here Lt. Morgan.  Do you have something interesting?  It would be a good time for it.  =/\=

Morgan: =/\= We’re sending the data now, but we need to get some distance between us and the anomaly. It's wreaking havoc on systems and people's personal belongings; it’s most likely why the warp core was acting up, and we can’t form a warp bubble at the moment. =/\=

V'Len had seen some scant reports of the warp core having issues, but he had no idea that it was as serious as not being able to initiate a warp bubble.

Kel:  Vomek get ready to move. : =/\= Is there a more optimal position for the ship? =/\=

Vomek:  Yes sir ::begins tapping LCARs::

Morgan: =/\= Well, if I’m reading it right, I’d get us five klicks to starboard, and we’ll see if that helps. =/\=

V'Len nodded to Vomek and the familiar chirps of the console let him know the Ronin was in motion.

Morgan: =/\= Oh, one last thing, permission to fire another prob at the eddy? We notice a time jump on the other probe, as the internal sensors and clocks were off by a significant amount, hence why we think we should back off until we get a wrangle on things.. =/\=s

Kel: =/\= Granted.  Mr Kessler ::pointing at Jack:: will send you what we have.  Use a Class IV probe so the subprobes can feed data back to us if the main probe is lost.  =/\=

Morgan: =/\= Right, we’ll get on it. Morgan out.. =/\=

V'Len let out a sigh, and noticed that as the ship repositioned itself.  His antennae stopped hurting.

Kel:  That's strange, my antennae ache is gone.  Maybe this anomaly has a biological effect as well.

Shortrith: I could also observe its affect on people, whether it be good or bad.

V'Len suspected that she was talking about taking the shuttle out, the topic being discussed before Lt. Morgan interrupted them.

Vomek: ::chuckling::  Should I leave or should I probe?  Age old question eh, Commander?

Kessler: Response

Shortrith: That's a good point. Both have pros and cons.

Kessler: Response

Kel:  Alright let's do it. Let's catch up with Ian and see if he's got his modified shuttle ready.
Morgan and company were already sending a probe into the anomaly, the shuttle could be used to get a read on the Ross-580 system itself.  Whatever was out there, it could be part of the mystery.

Kessler/Shortrith:  Response

Kel:  Vomek, you have the bridge.

The Romulan turned around to give the Commander a confused look.

Kel:  I'm the chief science officer, who else should go on a science related expedition?

Kessler/Shortrith:  Response

Kel:  I'm not a flag officer so I don't think that rule applies to me, Jack.

Kessler/Shortrith:  Response
